  1. Well, he was only temporary for a short while - but then he retired as army commander and he and his cronies became a permanent fixture!
  2. Sorry farang, meter not work!
  3. Almost certainly that is what is behind the whole proposal.
  4. That's why this is yet another "tentative" announcement of the implementation of this scheme. They almost certainly still haven't worked out how they are going to collect it. Things being the way they are, the more agencies that get involved, the more sticky fingers and the smaller the slice for the bright sparks who came up with the idea in the first place.
  5. Scorpions are fast - 80kph plus. They will roll if you try to corner or swerve at that speed. The 75mm gun in the turret is mounted relatively high up in a light (aluminium) vehicle which doesn't help. That is one of the reasons why you should keep your body inside the vehicle ( head only out of the hatch) and wear an AFV crewman's helmet. If they were thrown out I wouldn't mind betting that they were standing up on the seats, top halves of their bodies out of the turret.
  6. This from a fellow who appears to style himself on the Ronald McDonald and Colonel Sanders "statues" outside fast food outlets. I use the term "statues" loosely, but they are probably the closest he has ever got to appreciating sculpture...
  7. And they will only respect them when they are enforced consistently, fairly and "cleanly" What enforcement there is is so sporadic, inconsistent and openly corrupt that the law and it's "enforcers" are regarded with contempt.
  8. Agreed. The US naval presence alone makes it a big power in the region.
  9. Keep the aluminium cans seperate, they are worth far more than the tin ones, or mixed loads. Totally irrelevant, but for anyone who has visited any of the preserved steam railways in the south and west of England, many of the old Great Western Railway freight wagons on these railways were purchased and restored by an outfit called the "GWR 813 Preservation Fund", a small group of enthusiasts (fanatics?) Who raised much of the money by collecting and selling on aluminium drink cans!
  10. 1) Feed each dog in a separate part of the kitchen/whatever - about the only time mine (I have 4)get stroppy is when feeding. 2) Honestly it is worth keeping your Tetanus protection up to date.
  11. What an absolute gem of a task, comes packaged in a teak box inlaid with rosewood no doubt!
  12. I agree. To rip up the roots needs, eventually, for the realisation to sink in that the foundation of the pillars on which the house of control is built are sunk in sand. Once that happens it will fall. There you go, I have criticized you often enough for speaking in riddles but I am sure you and others get my meaning!
  13. I think you are right.
  14. I share your hope. I am sure many do. I think it will be a real fight. The current system was put in place to maintain power in the hand of certain circles. They will not give it up easily.
  15. At the moment he is a "thorn in their sides", a nuisance. If and when there is a real threat to their power, and income, then he will be dealt with. I suspect that there is some very high level "staff planning" being urgently conducted, on how to deal with the inevitable side effects of "dealing with him". Once they have a plan, which they think is viable, then they will take action. There will of course be "collateral damage", and I am sure that some who are senior, but not quite senior enough, will be glancing nervously around their offices. Their will be scapegoats - but they can be taken care of when things die down. Reputations may be damaged, but so can bank accounts, which are the more important? Remember those at the top are completely ruthless - that is why they are at the top. Once they think that they can manage the fallout, they will pull the plug.
  16. That is what moderation is for. On the other hand making the emojis anonymous could be construed as an attempt to modify the way that users express opinions, which is not particularly the job of moderators. If I like, agree with or wish to thank someone for making a point in a discussion then I think they should be able to know that.
  17. Thank you. I like that post. It was funny. There you go, three for the price of one!
  18. And it doesn't take the brains of an archbishop that once that has happened, then there will be a constitutional amendment, to make those powers permanent.
  19. Certainly presented better than either the Watchman or the snarling banana thrower!
  20. Have they imported the new management structure from TAT?
  21. Perhaps we should wait for the results before declaring them null and void - in accordance with established practices?
  22. Same problem. I have got bored with two visits now both involving lengthy queues, and the branch being unable to help. "Mee Dai! Cannot. Don't know when it will be fixed!" Goodbye Krungthai, hello Kasikorn!
  23. I wonder whether the good vicar of Ilminster and Whitelackington in Somerset has ever wondered why nobody bothers to go to her Church any more?
