He got 2 years and 8 months, for being abusive towards police. He also had a weird placard decrying the "deep state", and apparently referring to NASA! He didn't actually physically do anything. He suffered from diabetes and a severe heart condition. By all accounts he was a confused abusive rather ill man with some unpleasant opinions. He was sentenced, right at the high end of the scale, shortly after the Prime Minister (himself a former senior judicial figure - and with perhaps 10 years in office to go, a man with influence over judicial appointments and careers) expressed the opinion that such offences should attract the strictest penalties the law provides. Meanwhile, in other news, pedophiles and people who kill through dangerous driving receive suspended sentences, apparent from the same judge? Violent criminals are released early from prison to provide space for the likes of Mr Lynch. Brave new world perhaps?

I have wondered? If one is unaware of the "gay connotations" YMCA is a catchy little song with some chaps in jolly costumes! Its rather bizarre nature perhaps lends itself to Trumps desire to demonstrate how "in tune" with modern life! It also lends itself to the weird little jig which he performs to it. Trump appears unaware that it is a "gay icon". Given that he is manifestly not gay, it rather suggests two answers to the question posed: 1) He is simply too out of touch to be aware of it, and for some reason it has stuck in his mind from (relatively) long ago. 2) Who ever is responsible for managing/advising his presentation is either incompetent verging on stupid, completely ignored, or playing a particularly vicious and effective practical joke. I suspect a combination of these, compounded by Trumps own inherent buffoonery and unwillingness to be advised.

So you think a relative few high population urban areas should have control over the entire county. If they constitute the majority of the electorate. I really don't think it could be any simpler. It is a.national election, essentially with a binary choice. The candidate who wins the most votes nationally should win. It could be argued that was not the intention of the "founding fathers" but neither was giving coloured people or women the vote! Then of course one might consider that they were slaveowners, and that slavery was not ended until the 1860s!

You attempt to convince all of us that the "economic key" is crypto currency. 44 minutes later you admit that you don't know anything about crypto currency! 😉 Now I took freely admit that I know nothing about crypto currency. I do know that if I have 1000 units of a traditional currency, Baht, Dollars, Euro or Pounds Sterling, whether in my wallet or held in my bank account, I can go out and exchange it for goods and services to the value of 1000 units of that currency, or even, if so inclined use it to place a bet on the outcome of the US Presidential election. Crypto currency? 😀- 260 replies

Scientists Make Breakthrough Toward Resurrecting Tasmanian Tiger
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Given that the DNA was taken from a corpse preserved in alcohol, then it is likely that whatever may eventually emerge from the test tube will be an alcoholic Frankenstein creature. There are many many uses of DNA science of benefit to our world. This is not one of them, leave well alone! -
The difference between Trumps airplane and it's owner? The aircraft stops making a whining noise when it is on the ground. I understand that Elon Musk is making a quantity of Tesla cars available to the Trump campaign. Some concern was expressed that their silent progress may be dangerous, but eventually it was agreed that the constant whining noise would give adequate warning of their approach!

According to one programme I watched, which included a review by an "horologist" (?) the movements of the watches were actually Chinese made fakes with an approximate value of USD 100 or so. The cases were gold plated. All rather academic though, the delivery dates and details were rather vague, it was suggested that the real intent of the scheme was to allow the transfer of large sums of money into the Trump coffers from abroad, under the pretext of buying watches, which may or may not be delivered at some as yet undetermined date.

Kamala Harris Defends Policy Stance in Heated Fox News Interview
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Arguably the most important and possibly the most consequential interview he has ever done, and he makes such a fundamental mistake - Ye Gods, monumental incompetence, even for a self proclaimed entertainment channel! Action Man could have done better - and would have had more credible hair! -
Kamala Harris Defends Policy Stance in Heated Fox News Interview
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
An explanation: he knows, and his advisors know, that he simply cannot cope with any interview which is not a sycophantic platform. They have anyway moved on from the election - efforts, funds and attention are focussed on denying the election, legal actions running out the various deadlines, and bamboozling and bullying Congress and particularly the Supreme Court into appointing him. -
Old, yes, but not apparently a problem any more. Fruitcake, no, just a wide ranging taste in music, ranging from "Ave Maria, to Pavarotti to Village People - a taste he chose to spend 39 minutes indulging at a recent "town hall meeting" - well it makes a change from answering questions on policies, and is probably preferable (I'm not so sure about the YMCA bit) to listening to burbling ramblings on race, polluting genes, eating cats and dogs and the rest! Dictator - in his own words, that starts the day after he is inaugurated, and of course he is going to do his actual level best to ensure that he is inaugurated, no matter what the electorate say. There is of course a widely reported well documented programme prepared and ready to go to ensure that such a dictatorship will hit the ground running , not that Trump knows anything about that of course; and the thought of the "orange Jesus" running is both hard to imagine and deeply disturbing!

Just an idle thought, but in the last four elections: 2016 Presidential, 2018 mid terms, 2020 Presidential and 2022 mid terms, Donald Trump and his party actually got fewer votes than the Democrats; which rather suggests that the greater part ( by at least 3 million - 2016) have at least sufficient intelligence to see through him! If this trend continues then this November will once again show that a majority of Americans are bright enough. Mind you, given that, in the really revealing words of one of his most fervent admirers on here," the popular vote isn't worth a bucket of cold sick", then he could again end up as President! In which case it could be argued that the "electoral system" lacks intelligence! I do wonder how long the pretence of democracy would last if that is the case - but then it probably doesn't matter since Trump's intentions are to end it anyway! Once he has demolished the electoral process do you really think he will relinquish power in 2028 - or stick around until ready to pass the torch on to a favoured successor?

Quite an accurate precis. He certainly has no ambition to be a "constitutional" monarch!
