  1. I used to drink with the Saudi chargé d'affaires in the early 2000's in Bangkok, he was as bad as the rest of them. The Grace Hotel coffee shop was legendary in the late 90's and early 00's, arguably better than Thermae. I recall when they opened a disco down there in 2002 or 2003? Wall to wall with freelancers until 5am.
  2. They don't drink any alcohol or dip into brass. Just what this regime is looking for, and they don't mind a bit of authoritarianism either. Winner winner, Halal chicken dinner.
  3. Always has been. Same as over the border in Cambodia and Laos. A lot of money has been made from illegal activities, and now they try to pretend that it's all legit from family businesses, land inherited, etc. But we know their dirty little secrets.
  4. To think, some clowns on here wanted these people in charge of running the country.
  5. Yingluck was infinitely more intelligent than the current PM. She spoke reasonable English for a start. This one only grunts. The "anarchy" was instigated by Thailand's most corrupt politician and mafia godfather of the South so the coup could be staged. It was all planned well in advance. The current buffoon has been stroking toads, spraying disinfectant on journalists and throwing banana skins when he gets asked questions he doesn't like. I wonder what World you live in to think he is a better choice or more capable/intelligent.
  6. The head would be easy on a statue, it's already a perfect square, not much required at all.
  7. I won't be eating any Thai seafood for a while, that's for sure.
  8. Surprised that the emergency management procedure for a leaking pipeline was not immediately implemented on discovery of the leak but then again the standard of safety here onshore and offshore is completely woeful and major emergency management skills are lacking, if not totally non-existent. Probably Thais in charge all arguing amongst themselves with not a clue how to affect a proper response would be my educated guess as I have first hand experience of similar situations.
  9. Correct. Article is just the usual very poor standard of journalism. probably parroting some Thai official that doesn't know their ar*e from their elbow. FYI I am not subsea or a diver but I have been on DSVs.
  10. When I see parents with a young child on a bike, I immediately know they are not fit to raise children.
  11. Illicit business is good for the strongmen that use their position, connections and influence to make money on the side.
  12. Driving on the wrong side of the road, trying to cross three lanes of a highway at a junction... complete and utter idiocy that resulted in the forfeit of his own life. Pick-up driver is not completely absolved of blame though, driving in the outside lane at speed, without due care and attention.
  13. Oh and Liverpool Lou, whatever you post here is not being read as you are on my ignore list, so don't waste your time. Cheers.
  14. Did you take a viagra because you probably need one at your age!
  15. According to our Imperious Leader, Thai will be the international language of choice soon, so they only have to wait.
  16. No need to do border runs, 30 day stamps could be renewed without even leaving the country using certain agents. Not strictly legal, but never a problem with visas until Thaksin came along and stopped it all. Even 12 month non-immigrant visas could be obtained without going anywhere. Halcyon days.
  17. Which dingy will she be on? I'm expecting a Somalian friend on the 3:25pm to Dover this afternoon.
  18. In certain sectors, oil and gas being one, the maximum age under the petroleum act to get a work permit is 60.
  19. Not only Thai men, foreigners too, see my thread in the motoring section. Pick-up drivers especially seem to get really annoyed when they encounter a faster vehicle trying to pass. Wonder why that is?
