Disgusting comment.

run their countries..pity they dont learn from the Thais
Well, they still use Britain as the measure of how civilised their country is and indeed Thailand and most other countries still imitate British culture to legitimise their systems and adopted traditions.
Student mortar boards, judges wigs and gowns, army uniforms among many other adopted customs are examples.

But that's the problem, isn't it? . He's not a man. just a spoiled, insignificant, self important, strutting little s**t of a human, totally disinterested, no empathy , no regret, no sense of responsibility, no moral courage, no decency - just another, insignificant, priveleged, " Do you know who I am"? - nothing little turd on the side walks of humanity!
He's a Thai driver. They mostly all act in the same manner. The evidence is conclusive.
Witnessed a hit and run myself here in Chonburi a few months ago, a Vios changing lanes on Sukhumvit at speed wiped out a motorcyclist. Vios at fault, probably did not check mirrors. Stopped for a few seconds probably out of shock then sped off.
Reprehensible behaviour but common here.

Not the Thai way.
No-one will take responsibility. The lies and obfuscation will continue.
It's an obvious farce to anyone with an IQ over 80.

The worst thing about it is that what he does could end up annoying the government who will inevitably tar us all with the same brush. I wish he'd just kept quiet about it, I have no issue donating £2.50 to go into a temple, even if there is no charge for locals, it's peanuts.
They already tar us with the same brush, if you have not already noticed.
Stuff like the dial pricing, while it is indeed peanuts in monetary terms to most of us, just reinforces that 'us and them' mentality when we should be moving towards unity and understanding between the expat community and the locals.
We (expats) feel we belong here, the constant reminders like dual pricing and different treatment indicate that we still have some way to go to convince locals of the same.

Its "failed in London try Hong Kong"
No, Barrow isn't. I have seen him post absolute BS many times. Now he wants us to feel sorry for him because he has been stupid enough to vociferously and publicly challenge a Junta government on foreigner's rights in Thailand, when they clearly have very few rights. How idiotic can you get. Most of us are none of the things that you list above. Most of us came here because we love the country and want a quiet life. It seems to me, by your post, that the jealousy and bitterness are all on your side, not those of us who have criticized Barrow now and in the past. I do give credit where credit is due; it's just not due to him.
Did my post strike a nerve?
While we are on the subject of expats doing idiotic things, didn't you admit on another thread that you illegally own land in a company name to circumvent Thai land ownership laws?
Those in glass houses, etc.

OK that's, but would not bring me to the UK.
The UK is one of the most interesting and diverse countries on the planet.
So much history, scenery, great pubs and of course Scotland is continuously voted the most beautiful country in the World.
Having travelled extensively on six continents the UK has more to offer than any other country I've ever visited.

Boy oh boy, the hatred in this thread for Barrow is getting over the top. If there is anyone who doesn't deserve this level of nastiness, it's Richard Barrow.
What is it about Caucasians in Thailand that makes them hate those who have done ok for themselves in Thailand so much? Tall poppy syndrome, perhaps?
The 'I'm a better expat than thou' crowd on here is at times, intolerable, and is one of the reasons this forum gets such a bad reputation and why the Thai expat community is somewhat of a joke internationally.
What was it they used to say, FIHKTB - Failed in Hong Kong try Bangkok, or something along those lines...
The irony is most of the expats that perpetuate this are themselves losers, sexpats, deviants and other self-loathing old men that came to Thailand too late to properly enjoy it and are bewildered, lost and confused without Thai friends and with poorly educated sex-working succubus draining their funds.
I've had several snipes at me on here simply because I actually have a successful business here and came here in my 20's. Go figure.
The jealousy and bitterness has always been around and always will be from these inadequate types.
Richard is a great resource for tourists and expats but some people just can't give credit where credit is due.

Stickman Bangkok also started his blog in 1998 and he traveled all over reviewing "entertainment" venues, 555.
Also Bernard Trink wrote a "Nite Owl" column for the Bangkok Post for 37 years, which makes him the longest running "blogger", young feller. ????
Trink's reports on the local demimondanes were the highlight of the paper.
Those were the days.

Sure you get into the focus if you blogging. But come on, I mean who doesn't have any problems with renewing their permission of stay or get a new Visa. Sooner or later you will. It isn't only Richard.
Indeed, and Samat Prakarn are notorious for asking for bribes to process applications as I have found out. Even with (and possibly in collusion with) an agent, they wanted an additional 17k from us to grant an annual extension to a Non-B visa after work permit was granted.
Whatever the case may be here they are bullies and threatening Richard, regardless of the final outcome, is an expected low for them.

what they should do to be extra safe is chuck out every foreigner living there, just have thais in the country, cuz the foreigner is a disease ridden person so can never be too careful. its got to be the next step surely @Mr Meeseeks
@paulikens It might well be the next step.
Stuff of dreams for the inadequates that run this place that.
I see they are threatening Barrow over his visa renewal now too, possibly because he's been involved with 2pricethailand.
They deserve everything they are going to get and it is going to be glorious.

So the article says a limit overall of 500 people per day incoming... and of course, Thais I presume have top priority for those spots over any foreigners wanting to return under the current rules.
I wonder how many non Thais are actually making it onto the repatriation flights day in and day out?
Just down in Songkhla and I have met several foreigners working offshore that have been allowed in for work.

It's more like 23-27%. And then there's the indirect and/or unreported benefits, such as taxi drivers, bargirls, soapy massages, sick buffalo, money sent by sponsors when they're back home, you name it. Probably more like a third of the economy, it's massive.
It was 20% in 2014 when they had 24m visitors.
No wonder they keep banging on about it. But what they say is rubbish; "Tourism will go back to X by Y", insert random words or numbers for X/Y. Meaningless waffle, TAT don't know any more than anyone else and are just guessing and hoping.
What nonsense. It's not even close to 20%.
Most of Thailand has moved on from soapy massages and sex tourism
Get a grip of yourself, get off your bar-stool and go have a look outside Pattaya.

‘Probing’ is perhaps the right word.
The legal system is being ‘probed’ good ’n proper by this family abusing and insulting the intelligence of the populace.
A wholly disgraceful situation which must be highly embarrassing for any Thai who cares for its country’s image.
This case is not an exception.
is the norm for Thailand.

The US can be obnoxious at times but so can many other nations ...,,
not sure where your from or if your too young to know or understand history. If it wasn't for the US in WW2 many countries would be eating sushi every night & speaking Japanese.
'World War II, also called Second World War, conflict that involved virtually every part of the world during the years 1939–45. The principal belligerents were the Axis powers—Germany, Italy, and Japan—and the Allies—France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and, to a lesser extent, China.'
They were a bit late to the party though (Dec 1941), and only joined in after Japan attacked them at Pearl Harbour.
Let's not rewrite history to paint them as altruistic World saviours. They only joined in when forced to do so and brought their own brand of obnoxious racial segregation, against their own fighting black countrymen no less, with them.
Back on topic - well done to the Thai CAAT for remaining strong for us that are here and do not want foreigners coming in and forcing further economic disruption.

Ive always thought the Thai are good at road building and pretty prompt here in Phuket. Ive seen contractors watch QC core samples taken of the laid ashphalt for depth and mix quality by gov investigators and they said they get fined if under spec.
How much are the local Govt. inspectors paid to fake the reports though?

However those outside (in general) also don't want change they just want a their chance to get rich. Think Thaksin and now Prayut. With groups like this there is no chance.
Like i said i thought future forward could have changed things. Hopefully they protect themselves better in the next election. But its hard to fight B.S. charges.
But, but... Thaksin.
You cheer-led this military regime into power on the premise they would be less corrupt than Thaksin and would clean things up.
Those of us that knew better told you that an authoritarian regime would not have any checks and balances and thus be less accountable and more corrupt than an elected one.
Looking a bit foolish now bud.

From reading about this case over several years, it seems an open secret in Chiang Mai who the murderer is and why he is untouchable.
If, and that's a big if, those various stories are true, then it seems obvious more effort was put into hiding rather than finding the perp!
That is common in Thailand. See Koh Tao, Kanchanburi tourist murders, Michael Wansley, Boss Red Bull and many, many more.

I had several problems wrapping my head around the DNA sample stuff at the time.
Non-accredited laboratory (some hurried accreditation was subsequently produced to show they complied with the ISO standard for testing laboratories).
Results in record time which apparently was impossible.
No DNA evidence left to confirm the first results which was a nonsense.
DNA report written on a crumpled bit of paper with no document numbers raised my suspicions (again, see my first point about accredited laboratories and doing things properly).
There were other issues but that was enough for me to know either it was deliberate or incompetent and quite possibly both, as is normal here.
Quite possibly this.
