Why on earth does your tiny mind think that only sex tourists come to Thailand. Do you live in Pattaya or Soi 4.
I don't think only sex tourists come to Thailand. In my 30 years here they have been on the decline. They are still quite prevalent though.
However I do recognise, as do the Thai authorities, that poor Thai women are subject to exploitation through marriage hence the difficulties in married foreign men obtaining PR, which was the point. It is not only Western men we are talking about, Asian men especially Chinese are known for exploiting Thai women en masse.
You seem to have gotten rather annoyed with my post and dived straight into some insults... Are you a sex-tourist?

Complete buffoonery considering the plans for the proper cruise ship terminals in Laem Chabang and Sattahip as part of the EEC development.

I actually think Prayut came into power with grand ideas. Then the outside forces have now gotten control of him.
I don't.
Suthep claims the whole thing was a calculated conspiracy to steal power from the outset. All the while he was lying to everybody saying there would be no coup.
This indicates a level of moral cowardice that, compounded with his arrogant, boorish, threatening and childish actions while in power suggest a person not capable of grand ideas.
Note Sondhi now calling for another coup and handing total power back to the highest institution.
Gonna get messy.

I was lucky, squeezed a Cambodia trip in just before the borders closed. I expect to be back there, or Vietnam, within a year.
Me too, got there and back start of March.
We were planning on opening a business there this year too, which makes it even more frustrating other than not being able to go there for a jolly.

"At your Uncles and Cousins, 50 metres to your front, 10 rounds rapid, go on!" is a fire order which is unlikely to be well received by a conscript with a worn out M16 whose pay is two months late!
Maybe the regulars with the newer "Tavor" rifles, but are there enough of them?
They are not so stupid as to send in the 18yo conscripts. Certain Bangkok regiments are very loyal to certain people. The reliable ones will be used as they were before.
The Army had no problem firing live ammunition into crowds. I recall when Abhisit was on TV lying about not using live ammunition, when TV pictures clearly showed soldiers firing live ammo from M16's without suppressors. This was at the very start of the anti-government protests, long before there was any barricades at Rajaprasong and Lumphini or any real threats or danger from the Red Shirts.
I fear the same will happen again.

Maybe it escaped their attention but the internet is also accessed outside Thailand; those thousands of passengers waiting for refund look eagerly forward to their handbag - I am pretty sure about that!
Refunds will be in fried donuts and ridiculous handbags.
Who am I kidding? You ain't getting a refund.

Newin is no friend of Prayout.
But he stabbed Thaksin in the back to join the Abhisit Democrat coalition. He was needed then.

Watching the Yellow shirts march around in Lumpini Park yesterday, and then walking to the US Embassy, without even having more than a few policeman watching them, shows the dispirit treatment that each group is receiving. Those that support the Government have a free get out of jail card and can walk when and where they want with impunity, but the Protest group trying to dislodge the current usurpers is arrested, charged and then shat upon by the yellow shirts. You talk about inequality and who has more rights than others, all you have to do is look at how the sides are treated differently.
Been that way since 2006

Whenever I see Prayuth on TV I am reminded of this song by Oysterhead.
Barber
Get this mirror cleaned
I'm troubled by the face I see before me
As we shave our nations face
Keep a steady hand
Listen to these words that soon will ring across the land
Wield the Spade
Ready the blade
Sacrifices must be made
There are many fools who dare propose imposing limits on my power
Those ungrateful who've been swayed by intellectuals in their ivory towers
They will pay for crimes that God and I will not allow
Some before the firing squad and some behind the plough
Wield the spade
Barber
Get this mirror cleaned
I'm troubled by the face I see before me
Be careful not to miss a whisker
Soon I face my people who adore me
As you shave our nations face
Keep a steady hand
Listen to these words that soon will ring across the land
Wield the spade
Ready the blade
Sacrifices must be made
Barber
You've done very well
Much cleaner now
The mirror's telling no lies
I know I'm not imagining the telltale glint of death I see in your eyes
I can't trust you
So I must do something with my knife
It's a shame to lose a damn good barber
But that's life
Wield the spade
Ready the blade
Sacrifices must be made-

You mean the dozen or so at US embassy?
No, there was a gathering of them at Lumphini as well. Looks like their numbers are growing.
Bin Bunluerit, the Thai star that does all that stuff for charity, has given up his philanthropic role to join them looks like.

Don't know about social, but according to the Dept of income tax, only 4M Thais ( out of 70M) pay income tax = 6%.
True, but social is a different kettle of fish. Most Thais that earn under 150,000thb per year and thus avoid income tax will be paying some sort of social payment.

Hahahaha. You are funny. affluent men exploiting the gals. More like the other way around. And for the foreign woman can easily get it, in a sense it is degrading in looked at like ownership.
So in reality it depends on how the girl looks and acts. And this would apply in any country around the world. But generally most gals won't come off as hussy or a floozy. For the PR. Come on now. You can regurgitate and spout that stuff out until the cows come home, but fact of the matter is it isn't easy, you shouldn't have to get a job and it should be widely more accepting than and open for what is is, and presently is only a bunch of BS. Want me to pay taxes? Well sure I could pay into a social Security fund or a trivial 1000 baht per month if they would like. That would be more than 95% of the Thai population pays. I pour enough money into this country, but all this regime ever sees is give me give me give more while disregarding what you have already done. I actually help build their population base having 3 kids.
Now you are just waffling and posting nonsense to suit your own agenda.
95% of Thais don't pay social? Piffle.

3 hours ago, SomchaiCNX said:Yes but Mr Taksin was Clean, right? He just forgot about 600 million and he had the luck he could appoint the last judge just before they reached a verdict ???? He is the root course of all this political instability for the lats 20 + years.
Wrong.
The root cause is as I described earlier, that the elite are simply not interested in reconciliation, reform or the wants and needs of the Thai people. They never have been.
Thaksin was the catalyst for change because he was the first to recognise the importance of populist policy in winning over the electorate. Thus the poorest in the country were actually receiving something from the government for a change.
Of course the whole campaign against Thaksin started not because there was any conclusive evidence against him, but rather because Sondhi was irked that the CEO of KTB had been removed from his post, due to non-performing loans to his mates and having been instrumental in forgiving Sondhi's personal and business debt of over a billion Baht.
The politicisation of the Deleted and the misinformation campaign came soon after, culminating in a border conflict with Cambodia where people were killed and a takeover of the country's international airports that cost Thailand billions.
Now Sondhi is saying much the same things, but he's regarded as a conspiracy theorist and a bit of a sad joke. He's also a convicted criminal.
You keep on going though, it might dawn on you eventually.

Them all????
Among other things, the following measures were introduced under Thaksin or his affiliated parties:
- 90 day reporting
- An end to honorary Consulates (Brissy, Hull, Houston) being able to issue Non-immigrant multiple entry visas to Brits, Aussies and Americans
- Limits on tourist visas and 30-day entry stamps
- An end to easily available multi-entry tourist visas
- Funds being required for extensions of stay for marriage and retirement
- Additional scrutiny of education visas
Those are just what I can remember off the top of my head. Ultimately the Police are the ones responsible for all implementation as Immigration is a division of the RTP.
