  1. Indeed. Off to the Police after initiating the confrontation then losing face. Predictable.
  2. Didn't think tourists could own vehicles? Certainly can't register them on a tourist visa. Didn't seem to stop the metallic blue Suzuki Swift I saw pelting down there at 7:30pm yesterday. Doing 60+ down Buakhao without a care for anyone else's safety.
  3. I saw a serious motorbike accident yesterday on Sukhumvit Road near the Laem Chabang Expressway junction, where they have recently completed construction of the overpass. In fact, more often than not, when I am on my way to work or back I see the aftermath of serious accidents. Lost count of the near misses I see daily. Two days ago, there was an accident involving a large truck at the RongPo intersection that had traffic jammed up at the lights for hours.
  4. Too sensible. Some folks just like to control others and enjoy telling people what to do.
  5. Hope they enjoyed the relegation party and are there for the next one in 2024. ????
  6. Congratulations to Petrodollar Human Rights Abusers FC for winning the title this year. Next year it will be more difficult as FC Petrodollar Journo Killers will be right up there with new investment. How much money will they spend to buy the title? So exciting.
  7. All about his connections to the Buriram Mafia and how he played politics to amass his fortune. It was free to read for me btw.
  8. Interesting article from the FT after Vichai's death: https://www.ft.com/content/2696c26e-dc2d-11e8-9f04-38d397e6661c
  9. The son does not share the father's business acumen by all accounts.
  10. Relisting it as a narcotic is madness. There must be tens, if not hundreds of thousands of Thais growing legally since June 2022. As usual they will make a mess of anything they attempt to do with vague rules, absurd regulations and selective enforcement.
  11. He was hospitalized because, as he alleges, he was poisoned by a Thai restaurant in Cambodia. Hardly just a bout of the squirts, and it may have been deliberate.
  12. It says in the article he was prohibited from entering Thailand because he insulted Muay Thai. If you have evidence to the contrary, post it here. If not, best keep your unfounded speculations to yourself, no?
  13. “As a consequence of his insulting remarks against Muay Thai, Leduc was prohibited from entering Thailand and is currently residing in Cambodia.” Soft skinned folk, these Thais.
  14. This is a frustration in many industries here. When i was working offshore as an ops manager I had to attend meetings with clients to explain the company’s scope of services as the Chairman, other top management and the sales and marketing team didn’t know. They would always go to the meetings though as they wanted to show they were the bosses and I couldn't help but feel their resentment as they were woefully out of their depth. I remember the Chairman lecturing me that he could always learn about oil and gas. A total buffoon. I ended up winning the biggest contract they ever got and they proceeded to do everything to undermine me and mess it up because, presumably, they didn't want to do the extra work. Thai generals (Police and Military) have next to no business acumen whatsoever.
  15. Everton and Leicester going down tonight please.
  16. I used to have a company in Samut Prakharn. Once I went for a Non-B extension for work permit, and they would not extend my employee's visa unless I paid a 17,000thb bribe. I suspect the agent I used may have been in on the scam. Horrible experience, but it gave me a push never to deal with them ever again.
  17. I was just about to mention I saw several Thai women that looked destitute or vagrant while sitting on Soi Buakhao yesterday.
  18. Evidently, they are not able to manage the crisis on the roads and are too arrogant to bring in foreigners to do it for them. 'Investigation' will be done by the local plod who don't have a clue.
  19. Speeding. Suddenly changing direction at speed. Driving under the influence. Driving too fast for the conditions – wet road. Not trained properly or competent for such a scenario (license issued without proper assessment etc.) Possible poor maintenance on truck – bald tyres, brakes not functioning correctly etc. Not paying attention when driving – on phone. Container loaded on the very back of the trailer which would distort the CoG. Many other reasons, but these are the ones that spring to mind as possibilities.
  20. Relisting it as a cat 5 narcotic means that possession and cultivation will again have to be a crime by definition. If they are looking for stricter controls through new regulations that is fine, but relisting it would make it illegal. If seems as if they are talking about relisting to please part of their voter base, but in reality it would be very difficult for that to happen, especially considering the hundreds of thousands of people now growing at home.
  21. We are talking about South East Asia here. The Gulf of Tonkin incident started the Vietnam War. The US supported and propped up the Lon Nol regime which led to the Khmer Rouge taking power in Cambodia. Not to mention your ‘secret war’ and carpet bombing of innocent civilians. The US then supported the Khmer Rouge as the rightful govt. of Cambodia at the UN even after the extent of the genocide had been uncovered.
  22. Thailand’s support too. PTTEP, the Thai national oil company exploration and production division, controls most of the oil and gas fields there and makes the Burmese junta billions. There are many Westerners in Thailand working on these projects for PTTEP and their subsidiaries without concern for the moral or ethical issues.
  23. Malaysia just had a very free and fair general election. Cambodia has elections but it is a sham democracy run by Hun Sen and his cronies with all opposition and dissent crushed.
