  1. As I posted  before on  this..    I had 9  cartons of personal effects air freighted here, clothing, sheets, books, tools etc.   At Swampi Customs, first demand was for 20,000 baht. I had printed off, in Thai and English  the relevant regulations applicable, as I was entering on a OA class visa, and was exempt, apparently.    After threatening to set fire to the lot, rather than have some little  Thai s...t  steal  it, I haggled  the bribe down to 10,000 baht.      Then   the female  customs  bird started ripping the boxes to pieces and  demanded 3ooo baht to stop...She settled for 2000.     Best of luck.

  2. My wife  just had  two  teeth done at  St Marys private hospital    in Korat,, total cost  (for a Thai that is)  25,500 baht.    I realise  Korat  not of use to you, but price  might give you indication.     By the way  the entire procedure was done over 4 visits.

  3. If you going to use chicken poo, be careful, as it can burn  plant roots, due to its very high nitrogen content.  My old grandfather used to  put  his chicken droppings in a 44 gallon drum  and fill it with water, left it a  week or so,  then  just  used the water off the top  for his plants,   Grew the  hugest  vegetables I ever saw..      Pig  poo  is very good, and safer.

  4. Im told  Singapore Air departs BKK daily  for Singapore.   a few hours layover there,  and if your  travelling on to Perth. WA,  its a change to Air Asia.   Only 30 persons allowed per flight,  cost well over A$3000  each..  Booking being accepted,  but  usually two to three months wait list. and  14 day   compulsory quarantibe   on arrival.   No choice of hotel allowed.   No  alcohol  or cigarettes allowed in  any hotel, meals  are basic, no menu provided.  This from a mate  who just did his time,,,,bloody hard labour he called it.

  5.  Mister T and Thailand Ryan cover it all,, with confirmation from some others..     If  and thats a big IF,   you marry  one  with a degree, a steady, respectable job, and from a good family,  they should, and would normally return any sin sod  you gave, it being   purely for show.

Do not, ever,  build near    your partners family, or on land they profess to own.

  6. I used to  teach conversational English at a Thai High School, on a voluntary, unpaid basis,,  I just gave up after a few months. I felt sorry for the kids, they were great and really wanted to learn, its just  that the stupidity, sloth and  ridiculous  arrogance of the majority of the teachers got me down, they were often drunk at the start of the day, and by lunch time  quite a few  wouldnt return to work. Even the headmaster drank himself to death in the short time I was there. Now I just laugh when I see one strutting around in their ridiculous uniform, bedecked with "war" medals, gained from   hitting children.

  7. The comment  from SomchaiCNX  states  the obvious .The bad apples  will rise again and continue with their scams  and overpricing. Phuket, after the tsunami  is the classic example.  Just one giant tourist rip  off pre tsunami, and   even worse now.

I feel  for the  decent and honest people in the tourism industry, having to be  labelled  with the same brush as the scum,  not all of whom are Thai by the way.
