  1. What, just like Stalin, Himmler, Pinochet, Charles Manson? Not a lot of free thought encouraged there, I would imagine.
  2. The odds on me buying a winning lottery ticket.
  3. Butter, whole butter and nothing but butter. Anything else is just axle grease.
  4. Incidentally, the shipping time from leaving my front door in the UK to arrival in Bangkok docks was only 8 weeks. If the OP would like any more details about the company I used and the process, then please pm me and I will answer as best I can.
  5. A few years back I used Anglo-Pacific International when I left the UK for Thailand. I didn't have a huge amount of stuff only 429 cubic feet. The cost then, including insurance and VAT, was £2400. There was no damage from damp or mold. I even left the stuff in storage in Bangkok for a couple of months before I had it delivered. I attach some information that you might find useful. Thailand.pdf
  6. She will still be able to do this whether you are divorced or not. You need to break the hold she has on you. Good luck.
  7. What is the land like? Is it currently being farmed? If so, what crops? What are your intentions? Is it level? Is it stoney? Is it fertile? Do you have water? Do you need to sink boreholes? Does it flood in the rainy season? Does it have access to the road network? Is farm labour available in the area?
  8. Rather further afield there's the USA Military Scrapyard on the Mittraphap road just before Muak Lek. An astonishing place. All manner of vehicles, helicopters and everything in-between. Probably further than you want to travel but if you do find yourself heading towards Isaan worth the visit. USA Military Scrapyard 092 123 5552 https://maps.app.goo.gl/vDCNuCtRLT6tX8Mu7
  9. Thank you for your contributions, varied and thoughtful. If I'm still around, by the time you return, I look forward to reading more of them.
  10. I'm not a lover of tinned vegetables, with the notable exception of tomatoes. You would be better off buying your beans, pulses, legumes dry rather than canned. Sure you have to put in a bit more effort to make them ready to use but I'm guessing you have a fair bit of time on your hands. Buy online and have them delivered. Lazada has plenty of choice and the prices are cheap. Alternatively, for fresh vegetables find an organic farm in your area. They will probably do deliveries of small quantities, a kilo of this, half a kilo of that etc. by courier, post or direct.
  11. 3 more for your list; Women's Waists The Asian Magpie Salaries
  12. I have had an ultrasound and a subsequent biopsy for tumours on an enlarged prostate but it has not been suggested to me that I needed a MRI scan. Are there, perhaps, other reasons why your doctor feels this is necessary?
  13. When it comes to adult uniforms, it's the button stitchers that demand the most respect. How the hell do they manage to keep them from bursting under all that belly pressure? Always stand well clear. If those buttons pop they could penetrate armour plate.
  14. As anticipated - two fingers up from the UK Government. The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Give U.K. pensioners living abroad increases with parity as those in the U.K.”. Government responded: They conveniently overlook the fact that many of us still pay income tax in the UK on our total pension income if it takes us over the £12,500 personal allowance.
  15. • U.K. exports for 2020 was $741.01B, a 15.77% decline from 2019. • U.K. exports for 2019 was $879.80B, a 0.33% decline from 2018. • U.K. exports for 2018 was $882.69B, a 10.11% increase from 2017. The brexit dividend.
  16. So Thailand, along with another 140 countries, signs the UN resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine and then what do they do exactly .........? ......... Nothing ........ that's what! Subsequent inaction renders the signing of the resolution meaningless. Merely an attempt to stay on board with the majority of world opinion but with absolutely no intention of doing anything about it. Fence straddling at its worst. Perhaps, the Government would have been more honest had they not signed the resolution in the first place.
  17. Your ex tenant was distributing for free a million cannabis plants??? What a great guy. Quite restores my faith in human nature.????
  18. It's easy to say I would have bought Amazon and Netflix shares at their launch and sold at their peak or whatever and it would have changed my life but the reality is would I want to change my life? Despite looking back at all the mistakes I've made (and there have been as many as the stars in the firmament ????) I've still managed to enjoy so much. As @Gottfrid has already said life is good. I wouldn't want to give up the fun I've had and swap it for, an admittedly more comfortable existence, but end up being bored spitless.
  19. https://www.thailandtrains.com/guide-to-train-travel-from-bangkok-to-ubon-ratchathani/ You have probably already seen this but, if not, it is quite useful. Train no.23 is the one you want (a more modern train). As someone who travels fairly regularly between Pak Chong and Bangkok I can testify that the toilets can be a bit grim on the older rolling stock. ????
  20. This is something that concerns me. A couple of years back my wife suffered a minor stroke. Thankfully, she has fully recovered but it was a nasty moment. I hope she outlives me, she is afterall 15 years younger than me but, that said, her health isn't great. Were she to die before me then I would find the isolation of the farm oppressive. Also I have to accept that age is catching up with me fast and my ability to put in the work on the farm will surely come to an end at some point in the not too distant future. If I end up facing this situation then I would retreat to Bangkok. It has everything to meet my needs. Immigration easily accessible, health services both public and private, accommodation within my budget, good public transport and plenty of distractions (shows, eating out, pubs, the arts) to entertain me while I am able. Bangkok also happens to be where a person very dear to me lives but that is a story for another day.
  21. Thank you. I too hope you are able to continue to make some progress. You have suffered a great deal worse than I have. I know ultimately that you have no choice in these matters but I am not sure that I would have your strength. To have to constantly use a catheter is a burden I would struggle to manage.
  22. Yes, Dr. Umaphorn recommends I get myself tested every 6 months.
  23. I saw my urologist in Bangkok the other week. She spoke very frankly. She thinks I may have some nerve damage that could be exacerbated further by surgery to reduce the prostate and might lead to me seeing out the rest of my days needing fairly regular medical intervention. Given that bleak assessment, I am set on continuing my pill-popping habit until such time as it no longer works for me, whether that be a few months or a few years, I have no idea. On her advice I have given up with the Prostagutt as it didn't seem to do anything for me anyway, other than make urinating somewhat of an uncomfortable experience. I am now just taking Duodart which is a combined pill of Dutasteride and Tamsulosin. It has taken nearly 3 months since my acute water retention episode but matters have improved very gradually until now. I am getting a quite reasonable stream, probably the best for several years. I still need more trips to toilet than I would like and I don't think I will ever empty my bladder fully but, in comparison with the start of this year, I am relatively happy. This is, probably, not the end of the story but it is where I am at currently.
