I wouldn't say healthcare in the USA is a joke, I found the care to be excellent! However. very very expensive!! (even with insurance)

I grew up in the US, I'm 65 now...between the commercialization of care, medical malpractice law suits, big pharma continuously pushing the latest drugs, less than stellar care I received from doctors and nurses who thought they knew my body better than I did, infections from blood draws by inept staff, them trying to make a research project out of my youngest son who was born with meconium asperation - oh, and recommending heart surgery to my aunt who passed away during the procedure last year... Is it any wonder why I hold a very dim view of the medical profession/industry?

Medicine in the US has become so commercialized that doctors make way less money than I did as a management consultant. They're afraid to prescribe and diagnose for fear of being taken to court and tend to offer little more than "drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest". I realize these are people who attend way more college and endure tons of stress over the course of their profession, but seriously?

    I expect so much more.

When they are threatened they open their mouths in a wide gape which is red inside, as if ready to attack.. I have them on my house and most evenings when I close the windows due to the threat of rain there is one that I have to nudge off. A local told my wife that a Tokay bit the end of her young daughters finger off. True? I don't know, but I'd be wary about trying to catch one. I like them. My wife hates them. snakes like them too. I watched a Golden Tree snake devouring one that had discarded its tail. The snake then ate the tail which was still twitching Obviously the Tokay's defense mechanism didn't work..????

There's a video (I'll see if I can find it) of a Tokay getting the better of an argument with a golden tree snake. The snake ends up all bloody and dead.

  3. "We have seen over 10,000 cases for many days and we want this to come down. But no one can do this alone and everyone has to help,"

Translation: "We really have no clue what we're doing, nor how to get control of the situation, so it's up to the people".

Anyone who thinks 30,000 is the possible worse case is delusional - the number is going to be much higher. The rise in cases is still exponential and is not abating.

Threads on the Pub always interesting. This one has gone from a dystopian future now, to a dispute about "ain't".

True, I think it’s pretty much a dead horse at this point. This is one of those tangents where you look back, shake your head and say, “did I really allow myself to take part in that?”

What ever happened with the beautification of Pattaya and changing Walking street.

Also If I remember the late 2019 numbers they so gladly want to get back to had a lot of bars complaining of no customers and WS a ghost town

Ask any Thai government official and they will tell you, “Coming to Thailand is every foreigner’s dream come true”.

Ask any foreigner and they will likely tell you the complete opposite.

Felt guilty as I wrote that.......I still tend to use my hands automatically and then think....oh dear, not good!!!!

I like things that are logical and it makes total sense that one should sneeze or cough into the inside of one's elbow. After all, who touches anything with that part of their body? I just realized that I don't do this hardly ever, so your point is well-taken.

Many, many people do not seem to have been taught this (in the UK)........however, they really should cough/sneeze into the crook of their elbow to help stop spreading diseases.

Technically, yes you are correct. I think when that song came out it may not have been a 'best practice'. I always new this, but admittedly I don't do it, so thanks for the reminder.

I definitely agree that these guys are around. But they ain't that hard to spot, and I've met some decent younger white people here (I, myself, am not white). Part of it, I've noticed, depends on how/where you're meeting people. The quality mix also does seem to be improving too. Younger people are more positive on life in Thailand than you might expect if you just look at the opinions of the older guys here. Maybe give it another chance.

This is great! I've befriended some older MDs over the years and it is nice to hear perspectives from different generations (as long as the perspective-giver has quality ideas lol).

You seem like a reasonable person though. It's too bad you're leaving, I wouldn't have minded buying you a beer when Thailand reopened.

I'll be in BKK from 17th until the 28th...take care!

I am pretty much up to date and comfortable with those things that you mention.  What I mostly need, is up to date information and analysis that can be trusted as unbiased and factual,  on the various government statements and changing polices, especially during covid.   Travel information, internally and out of country,  by those who have been travelling recently is also useful on various forums.  What I definitely don't need is to be reading is the panic and hysteria that some seem to be having in regard to getting , or more likely not getting any time soon, covid vaccinated.  I can do all that worrying all by myself thanks and nobody seems to have the definitive story regarding availability of the said vaccines, probably because there is no definitive story.

Your concerns are well-said and duly-noted, good luck!

Certainly the jury is out as to whether I stay on this forum or not. So far it has added some value, but the level of debate/discussion on some issues is not what I expected  and is, shall we say, somewhat disappointing, so far.  As a general information source, I'm not yet sure if it adds anything to other, perhaps more reliable sources for expats.  We shall see.

If you really want to see the value, post a question about how to transfer money into and out of Thailand. You'll be amazed at the plethora of responses you get. Also, if you ever have any questions about visas, there are many who know their sh!t here. Or how to buy/sell a car or motorbike.
