I passed thru there once and stayed the weekend, so I could get my visa. I had a nice ocean view room at the Renaissance there - the only nice thing about the city as I recall.
Have never desired to go there for any other reason, place strikes me as a SHlT hole. Maybe if I were young and stupid again…

1 billion baht is roughly 1/1900th of the 1.9 trillion recorded for 2019 International tourism revenue alone.
That’s barely a drop in the bucket.

Oh, they need us. Otherwise, who would they have to hold below themselves.

Failure or not, it's probably the lesser of 2 evils for returning expats.
True, it does provide an option for those with ties in Phuket, no argument there.

I kind of like the Vaccine Tourism idea. Come to amazing Thailand. You pay for your airfare. You pay for your 14 days in a quarantine hotel and you will receive 2 free doses of Sinovac. How could it possible miss.
China loves that headline.

Whatever you think is irrelevant right now, because most Thai vets are like this. So its more likely to be religion related then anything else. I have had the same thing with our dogs. If you look into topics of vets putting animals down there are very few that are willing to do so.
So its clearly a religion thing, i feel they should put animals down but that is my western view. My dog might have to be put down and we found a vet willing to do so through friends. But its hard. I really think its not a money thing at all.
It may or may not be a money thing, how can one really know? This scenario plays well into the hands of scammers - if this were another country it would be obvious, but it's Thailand.
Some religions need fixing, IMO. I believe in God, but I also believe most humans are corruptible when it comes to money and I am never quick to trust ANYONE.

Once a joke, always a joke. This administration should consider launching it's own comedy channel - would be a huge hit!!!

There-in lies the problem...for anyone who is a frequent traveler will avoid making plans that could be derailed by some inept administration. And this IS CLEARLY an inept administration.

After this, I'll no longer waste any more of my time responding to this SHlT.
I'm simply going drop a laughing emoji or 2 or 3 on the OP.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

That must be the last of the lot from Chairman Xi and his crew. I wonder, do they have enough toilets to handle the disposal of Sinovac that ends up as spoilage?

That's all fine and good but: why? Why is it stronger? If I thought to invest my money in Thai baht somehow, through whatever vehicle, I would look at the landscape and think no way am I doing that. Because there isn't anything good to see on the landscape. But either some people see something I'm not seeing which is certainly possible (the reason for the post) or that quick baht rise over the past three days was due to something else. And now I guess it's moving back to where it had been 3 days prior.
My guess is: he/she or whatever they identify as has no clue.

There really do not seem to be any positive fundamentals in the economy here. It is utterly devastated, real unemployment might be 30-45%, homelessness is skyrocketing, the condo market is dead in it's tracks, tourism may be gone forever (perhaps 5 million visitors by 2026?), the vaccination program continues to be bungled here, foreign investors are leaving in droves, and there is no confidence in this failed administration, nor is there any real hope for an improvement on any of these fronts, in the near future here.
I think you’re spot on. It’s very difficult for most of us to connect the dots on what is real and what is being reported regarding the economies, not only in Thailand and the US, but here in the EU as well. I don’t trust any of it and I’m really struggling to see how or when I’ll ever be able to move my money out of cash. I used to scour the financial pages and stock results and felt like I could tell what was going on and would often be right. Now things are way more complicated, especially due to covid, IMO.

What a nasty judgmental post. "he should go home". How dare you! He is home with his, albeit untrustworthy, wife.
BTW I'm one of those people who "live pretty lean here".
Just a fool showing his ignorance. He thinks he can fully assess the situation without even knowing all the details. Maybe the guy has money in his home country and it's just a matter of him being able to season the funds, so he can renew.

Surely, in his case, this scenario would not be a good example of a second chance being warranted.

Is that where people go these days for sex ?
I can remember a time when the grocery store was the best place to go if you wanted to find sex. The act itself, however, didn’t normally occur there.

The only porn movie I ever saw was Deap Throat.
It was funny, I still watch it sometimes.
All following porn movies were boring or imitations, never could bring myself to watch more then a few minutes.
How did we end up talking about porn? Oh yes, because porn is not PC or woke, so it must be a good thing.
I'll bet it's been more than 40 years since I saw that movie and still who could forget Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems? Debbie Does Dallas was another classic. I never saw that one, but my friends were always talking about it.

You're saying, "I'm not saying it's a success..." and I'm saying, "It's a failure...", so let's not be coy shall we? And stop playing dumb, please.
I've already told you why and I've not 'twisted' anything you've said.

Oh no. And if you read all my posts on this thread you will see it’s both.

Oh no, I totally understand. What you fail to understand is that Phuket nor any other city that relies so heavily on tourism will be doomed to fail as a major tourist destination with those kind of revenue numbers.
No matter how many failed schemes and experiments you want to try and pretend were a success.
