.... as in trying to lose weight, not maintaining. Calories aren't a major weapon used here - unless you look to buy heavily processed ready made meals. I was eating a single Pad Kaprao a day for a week, and some fruit on the evening. Didn't lose anything. Went behind the scenes to see how this Pad Kaprao was being made (under the guise of being a good customer). My goodness this isn't some healthy meal, little bit of chicken mixed into some spicy veg and some rice. Hell no. Instead the volume of oil used was enough to burn a building. She then proceeds to add 20 large spoons (i literally lie to you not) of sugar, followed by endless volume of a salt called MGM. So you think that's it ... no there were more. Once finished she began to put some butter into it, a proper massive lump !!!!! The sheer volume of salt and MSG put into the rice was astonishing. I came away thinking this isn't just some minor small meal. This is a one hell of a calorie laden meal. My question is to you all ... how on earth do you count calories here and lose weight ?

Kuwaiti man assaulted in Phuket after insulting Thais (video)
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
There seems to be a sort of mini invasion of Kuwaiti's in Phuket. Firstly why is this happening, as far as i am aware the Kuwaiti passport allows travel to most regions around the world. Secondly there behaviour (along with Russians) is appalling, very arrogant. Are they like this back in Kuwait ? -
They've removed all border restrictions for Chinese. Even allowing them now to stay here for 5 years pretty much with the new visa. They're building bullet trains from China into Thailand. Which judging by other countries only benefits China dumping more products into Thailand.

Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
2.5 hours to get through immigration at Phuket today. Never seen anything like this before. Total carnage. Traffic and journey time to hotel at Karon was the worst i've ever experienced coming here. This is called over tourism. Vast majority of visitors seemed to be from India and some Arab country which i believe may well have been Kuwait. Recent UK report shows Indian tourists are some of the lowest spending tourists in the world. Well done. -

Visa-free entry for Chinese nationals has many consequences
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think unfortunately we are going to have to accept that is the current set of leaders path to get Thailand 80 million tourists is going to ruin any vacation plans we have for Thailand. It's barbaric at times with 40 million, now imagine doubling it. Revenue is down per head, so it's a clear path they are doubling the numbers of cheap tourists to make up for the short fall. Rents are going to sky rocket, which will hurt local Thais. This is when protests will begin. -
Government to Crack Down on Low-Quality Chinese Imports
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The PM Stretha and those advising him are probably the worst leadership Thailand has seen in it's history (including coups). The man has made no attempts to diversify the economy, despite most international organisations suggesting they should. Instead he has double downed and struck Thailand on course for decades more of cheap mass tourism. No attempts to clean up tourism (scams, taxis, hotel standards, safety) No attempts to improve the infrustructure to compliment his attempts at doubling visitor numbers. The scanadalous and immoral decision to allow Russians to hide out in Thailand - and the problems they bough to Phuket with taking over mass residences (forcing Thai's out), working, and taking over businesses illegally. His wreckless and needless removal of chinese visa fees was one thing, but to then double down the crazy decisions he then decides to remove all checks and balances for Indian visitors! Indians can't get into any other country the way they are getting into Thailand, not even third world African countries allow them in this easily. Their GDP per person is 3 times less than the average Thai. There was simply no need for it. Indian tourists, whilst welcome, are very low spenders. Who did he consult in removing billions from the visa fees they bought in, as well as the checks and balances they bought? By creating a country that is reliant on cheap mass tourists you turn away quality spending tourists. With a country with so much beauty it's a scandal he would introduce such an ecological disaster to the place. Why would a quality high spending tourist come to Thailand and surround himself with mass Chinese and Indian tourists? The man is from the background of a real estate company - all these policies will definately help that. By allowing foreigners to stay long term in a country that is still developing, you are risking throwing out local Thai's from housing and making life harder for them. The net effect of accomodation being too expensive for Thai people will be that they will demand more wages, which will in turn push prices up. A nice mix of things getting expensive and cheap tourists. Even now there is no stopping him. Revenue per head down in Thailand, so his answer is to increase the numbers to make up for the loss in revenue. The enviromental impact. Some of the most natural beautiful places in the world, all set to be destroyed as millions of cheap visitors wreck them. Build an airport here and there, doesn't mean you can ignore the blatant appalling infrustructure on the roads, flooding, traffic chaos. Nothing to address pollution. Chiang Mai will be once again the most polluted city in the world next year burning season. Scandalous. And what about the experience he hopes to give to visitors? If you are packing them in like sardines you will have very low enjoyment. Absurd, dangerous and wrong. The worst PM at the worst possible time. -
UK Thai embassy issues warning amid anti-immigration protests
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The protests are due to a lack of education, social media manipulating thick people, and the rhetoric from the last government looking for people to blame for their problems. The amount the government wasted on PPI fiasco and covid, pales into comparison to the money spent on asylum seekers. Furthermore didn't see any riots for Lucy Letby or other shocking incidents when they were not muslim. -

What i don't get about the whole 'we're being invaded' argument is that literally Britain did invade half the world for more than two centuries. They invaded India. I am not sure how well this is taught in schools in the UK. Then they wanted Indians to help them in both wars. I mean imagine going to defend and die for a country that isn't even your homeland. Then on top of that they were actively bought in Britain to come and work in factories to help rebuild the country after the war. Of course they are then going to bring their family here. Then some 60 years later they are being told they're invading. It's education. -
UK Thai embassy issues warning amid anti-immigration protests
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
He was referring to the year 2008 when he left as he didn't like illegal immigration. Even if 50,000 illegal migrants come a year, it's not a massive number. I can guarantee you that more than come through the Thai / Mayanmar porous borders a day. -
UK Thai embassy issues warning amid anti-immigration protests
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In 2008, there were 7,000 ILLEGAL immigrants entering the UK. You are telling me you left a country, to become an immigrant yourself someplace else, because 7000 people came into the country illegally (some who claimed asylum). 7000 people wouldn't even cover one stand of a football stadium. You didn't leave because of offshore olligarchs, rising cost of living, inept governments, illegal wars - NO YOU LEFT BECAUSE YOU FELT A POPULATION OF NEARLY 68 MILLION COULD NOT HANDLE 7000 PEOPLE. So you went to a country that lets in 40 MILLION PEOPLE A YEAR . The racism from Brits is astonishing. In my opinion it's down to a massive lack of investment in education of their population, resulting in them holding such rancid views, and being easily manipulated. They aren't the most desirable of tourists here in Thailand (alot of drunken sex tourists), and around their favourite enclaves of Spain make no effort to assimilate themselves - no learning of their language, loved their Heniz baked beans, etc Are you referring to legal migration? You know the need for asian doctors, nurses, care home workers, international investors, low rise jobs that the local population won't do, or students that pay 5 times more than local to subside their costs. Which one do you not want? Maybe the UK should not have called up so many indians to their country after the second world war to help rebuild their country. Furthermore maybe they should told the 2 million indian to stay at home and not help them during world war 2. Let's call the poster what he is.- 91 replies

Genuine question, but have you studied history? The UK ruled over what is now Pakistan for nearly 200 years, and only left after World War 2. It was known back then as India. These are the types of ignorant people in Thailand, no clue on history, or not having read up on it. -
Another victim of Pattaya Soi 6 'security' thugs
DonniePeverley replied to NanLaew's topic in Pattaya
Awful for the guy. Being drunk, masculine confidence (when reality being you are never going to win a fight against any Thai's out here), and mix it in bouncers who aren't well trained to defuse a situation but rather use brute force - is not a good mixture. Of course the bouncer may come across incidents like this all the time, and 99% are dealt with without issue. Tragic. If you are intoxicated out here, and you feel a confrontation coming on - just walk away. Don't get too caught up in it emotionally. Easier said than done when you're pisssed however. -

DonniePeverley replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thailand has alot of immigrants from Myanmar. You see them on construction sites working for pittance. - Thailand didn't invade half the world. - Thailand didn't then want the citizens of those countries it invaded to help them during two world wars. - Thailand then did not ask peoples of the 'commonwealth' (past countries it had invaded and looted) to then help them rebuild the country after the devastation of the second world war, meaning when would then have long standing family links to those countries. Get a grip racists. -

Thailand Advances Toward Legalising Casinos to Boost Tourism
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
BOOST TOURISM ?! They already going to break the record with 40 million tourists. What do they want an island wall to wall tourists? Have they not seen the wreckage casinos made in certain areas of Cambodia ? They destroyed some brilliant places. -
I've been around bars in Pattaya, few in Bangkok .... sitting around these Brits. Complete ignorance, lack of education, hypocrisy they are immigrants themselves (and the worst kind too, beer munching, paying for prostitutes types). Most don't even have anything in the game regards to the UK, but they sit there pontificating about immigration in the UK. It's nothing but racism.
