About 5 years ago they visited my home after doing a retirement extension there. I was only using that IO for that year. Usual box ticking exercise but rather creepy when the lady IO showed me a photo of my son in school there on her mobile phone. Nothing to do with retirement extensions but she knew the kid was mixed race and just happened to be in the same class as her kid. Nothing sinister, but felt a bit weird at the time.

I just use an unlimited SIM from AIS in my phone as a hot spot. Bought it a while back on Shopee and it offers unlimited access for 300THB /month. It was advertised as 10mbps speed limited but every speed test I do is over 50mbps. Keep the SIM balance below a threshold so as to only use it when needed. I have had the SIM over 2 years now and don't need it every month, an pay nothing when not in use except a small top up to keep number active occasionally. Cannot see any point in buying any router hardware when the phone does the job for you already.

OK I like that idea - thanks for feedback. We drove it last Monday at about 5pm on a public holiday - perhaps not the best time and crawled at <5kph for 2 hours. So maybe our only choice next time is to make two days of the journey to ensure Rama 2 road is hit around mid day as we are coming from several hundred km away.

I have always used Rama2 road in/out of Bangkok driving to/from Hua Hin and further south. Last week we came back to Bangkok this way and the traffic was a mess on Rama 2 backed up 8km as the powers that be try to merge 4 lanes of fast moving vehicles into 3 to get under all of the overhead expressway construction. It looks like this will go on for several years. So my question is whether the northern route via Nakhon Pathom is any less congested and whats it like getting into the Bangkok expressway system these days? Any experience please?
