Maybe not, but one thing is for sure, a lot more electable and positively more suitable than the other contender, as the world does not need another wannabe dictator

When you get the cancer will stay here or go back?
2ndhomepattaya replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
Yes, sadly, 5 years ago Kev-in-thailand died. Indeed, he blew a couple of million baht but finally, he had to return to the UK as he could no longer afford it. Its those extras ongoing treatments that kill you financially if the cancer does not. He died a few months later in a hospice there. Personally, I think that if you have cancer diagnosis with stage 4 it's pretty pointless operating as only the hospital benefits. Rest in peace Kev, you have not been forgotten. -
European Visa for Thai GF
2ndhomepattaya replied to Asmoseus_uk's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
We just got a Tourist visa for "her" via VFS to visit Germany/Austria Aug/Sept 24. The process to obtain was fairly straightforward. Downloaded the application for "C" visa and made an appointment with VFS. They then forward the paperwork to the embassy of your first arrival port and a week later visa was issued for 3 months starting the date of intended arrival. The whole process did not take more than 2 weeks -
May I suggest that they make it up as it suits them? Before this all happened I had a medical at the BHP and an all-clear. Not smoked for 30 years, BMI of 25 so nothing untoward. Elevated BP admittedly but sugar reading of below 100. It came back as anything with HP and diabetes exclused...even my doc found this highly incomprehensible. Needless to say, this insurer was off my list permanently.

I am sure very often it is not fraud simply the patient, not medically trained does not know. In my case, on a Monday morning at work, my boss had reports from my work colleagues that I was roaming the kitchen apparently in a confused state. So, he took me home and told me to take a week off and see a doctor. So, off I went in the afternoon the same day to see a GP. He just did his usual things and the usual questions on meds I took like blood pressure and so on, all of which he had a record anyway of. exclaiming that there was nothing wrong with me. But, he said, I can tell you it's not a stroke. If you are still concerned go to the local hospital. So, like a good boy, off I went at 6 AM next morning to the district hospital. Guess what, 4 hours late they sent me home, as they could not find anything either. Terrific, it appears there is absolutely nothing wrong with me. Now it was only Tuesday so I decided to enjoy my few days, gifted days, off. Come Friday, my mate came for breakfast and halfway through when I apparently started taking jibberish. The ambulance came and they immediately diagnosed a stroke affecting the left side artery. within 24 hours I was on the operating table at Oxford University Hospital with a 75% blockage. Happily for me, 7 years later I fully recovered, mind no thanks to the GP nor the first hospital. Now, are you suggesting as per above that I should have known??? Prior to this I had not even been near a hospital in 50 years.

I fully agree with you. This general "wait and see what happens" does not agree with me. Throughout my working life, I found the proactive approach far better than the reactive one. With reactive you are always late to the party. Besides, I own an apartment in Europe that stands idle so why not make use of it for 190 days? In fact, I like summer back home and my family is delighted, and so is my Thai partner. In fact, she would want to leave tomorrow. It's Thailand's loss only as I will be spending my money elsewhere for 190 days a year. And most certainly will shelve any major purchases here for the time being.

Try Loungebuddy, but there are several others also.

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern

Are you real????? Nothing, but nothing justifies this behaviour

Ridiculous quote, I have ongoing treatment for glaucoma and the BHP and I don't pay more than 2-3k and that includes all tests before seeing the specialist for a detailed exam on progress and evaluation. Worth every penny. You can get Glaucoma meds without a prescription but I prefer to have it checked twice a year.

Maybe time to consider Da Lat. A place the French retreated to in their days. A friend of mine loves it there. -

I lived for a year at the Edge in Pattaya and the rooftop pool was quite nice, only spoilt at times by the Chinese bringing their cameras into the pool...they just can't go anywhere alone and need to constantly inform their peers back home. Overall, the temperature of the water was good all year round. On the lower deck way down, yes, there the water was cool too, terrific in high summer.

The problem is, most 70+ years old have several pre-conditions known or unknown to them. When I approached a major insurer some years ago and even had a physical at the BH, my reading very pretty good, they decided that a reading of 97 was pre-diabetes and 120-130 high BP. My GP just shook his head. Needless to say, I decided all the exclusions.
-
Can easily happen. If you happen to have a TIA for example you immediately enter the world of "you should have known as it takes years to build up you you most certainly will not have any prior symptoms. You, according to the insurer it is an existing condition.

My last quote from Pacific Cross not only saw a very hefty increase when I turned 66 but the exclusion list was something to behold. Do you have high blood pressure? Yes, infrequently. Ok, you suffer from HP, so everything connected with that is excluded. Do you have diabetes? No, my last few readings were all below 100. Well, this is nearly pre-diabetes, so excluded. After a list of 12 proposed exclusions, I decided to better put away 15k a month myself. Just not worth the grief and the danger of that company not honouring the cover far too high. I am sure they would find a clause to wiggle out of paying. Better still, Europe is not that far

Philippines is going to fill up
2ndhomepattaya replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Before I came to settle in Thailand 7 years ago, I did spend some time in the Philippines. It was a close call choosing between the two but now the pendulum may have shifted in favour of the 7000 islands nation. OK, the food is not that great but the woman is. And agreed, immigration is much easier in the Philippines, and yes, UK pension plays a major part. Especially since this and/or last year the cost of living pension increases pension are rather large. -
Shopee/Lazada credit card vs cash on delivery
2ndhomepattaya replied to kwak250's topic in General Topics
I just ordered a 43" Samsung 4K TV, COD, I would not want to risk this amount on prepaid. As it is I had to chace them for delivery which took 2 weeks rather than the promised 7 days. No prepaid for me thats for sure. -
