  1. I think Conan the Barbarian is an actor. A leftover from a couple of months ago with those fake posters trying to generate traffic for Thaiger Inc. Could be wrong but.
  2. To clarify a bit further - the statement that - 'The ATO does not tax age pension payments - ever - if you can prove that they do, then put up or shut up' - is clearly wrong. My example of a combined income of $70000 is to show you are taxed on the $70,000 - offsets may apply as they do at the lower end meaning you may pay no tax - but the age pension is taxable and taxed in the same way as the capital gain.
  3. It's all part of your taxable income. If you don't reach the threshold you are not taxed - be it net capital gain, pension, or something else. If it's over you get taxed. You seem to be suggesting that the age pension is treated differently but it's not - it is part of income and it is taxed as part of total income if you reach the the threshold to pay tax. This is not to suggest that the guys in Thailand long term should alter what they are doing - only that the pension is taxable same as other sorts of income.
  4. The age pension and other taxable pension payments are taxed for residents and or non residents who lodge tax returns and have other income that puts them in the taxable range. For non-residents that's from first dollar. One simple example for residents would be if you had say a $50,000 net capital gain and say $20,000 in pension - the pension would be included in the tax return - total income $70000 - and taxed at marginal rates like other income. The proof is by looking at a tax return - filling it out - and you'll see it's included.
  5. Why do people have to talk in extremes - the fact is the American economy is as we speak the envy of the world according to most. The figures are good. You may or may not be right in your predictions. How many years have you been predicting this? A stock market correction happens but even with that it would be up a mile over the past years. I recall your cataclysmic predictions for tourism in Thailand post covid - I think you said it would take many many years to recover if I recall - but things are going ok there too.
  6. Why the extremes all the time - the worst something in 50 years - zero facts - etc - in the context of a world that has struggled with inflation while trying to maintain economic growth the US is doing well. Simple fact for you to ponder.
  7. Sound philosophical or something but I have on several occasions not received a response to such issues so that is silence is it not.
  8. The problem is you post random numbers to make your argument - but when someone tries to give it context or asks what Trump would do there's normally silence. You didn't even know or understand his policies such as what tariffs he proposes despite writing 1000 posts advocating his approach. Oh well.
  9. I actually did as it happens. You clearly didn't but keep typing and do your best.
  10. Caused by after effects of covid around the world. Look at stock market now. Trump says at latest speech the stock market now is due to him - except the day it tanked - that was Harris. Supporters nod their head in agreement. Maybe you agree with him too.
  11. Lowest inflation since April 2021. Economy strong. Best in the world.
  12. Inflation and economic news good. Steady as she goes. The steady hand of Biden and Harris.
  13. I have found the same thing mainly with Agoda. Search via Tripadvisor, Google, direct to the website logged in, direct logged out, and all different prices. Come back next day and different prices again. Agoda does tend to be cheapest though. Prices on Booking.com are more consistent - tend to be more expensive - though lately they have improved and they might give one off cheaper prices or 5 per cent off. Hotels.com and others such as Expedia etc tend to be a lot higher though hotels.com has the buy ten nights get 1 free deal which can make it worthwhile.
  14. Making the cover of Time seems like a thing to the older folk who remember when it was a powerful respected influential magazine. Now it simply wants to sell magazines be it to the left or right and will present the particular audience with what they want to see. Taylor Swift was recently person of the year - bet they sold a fair few.
  15. So a government or private firm finds smart scientists to find solutions. No lies, no greed, no hysteria. Good thing?
  16. Let the scientist work it out. Have a bit of faith. I remember reading Freakonomics where they used the fact that volcano's cooled the earth so suggested pumping sulphur into the atmosphere. No need to be super idealistic - there is likely someone smart out there who can make a good case for funding - ignoring it is not a solution.
  17. Better to vote Trump - they'll laugh at concerns and do nothing - start by denying climate change - then say it's real but a natural variation and not man made and no big deal - then say it is man made but no big deal - then it could be a big deal but we have to adapt - meanwhile scientists look for real solutions. Have to be careful how money is spent but money needs to be spent in my humblest of opinions.
  18. Does anyone know when this will be completed and the road return to 2 ways. Thinking of booking a hotel a fair way down beach road in September and October but may not if one way traffic continues. Thanks.
  19. According to these on all imports https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-tariffs-proposal-10-percent-1700-cost-per-us-household/ https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/21/business/trump-trade-war-tariffs-china/index.html https://www.americanactionforum.org/research/trumps-10-percent-tariffs-projected-impacts-on-u-s-households-and-allies/
  20. Inflation begets inflation. A one of increase to a sizeable percentage of consumer goods and materials that go into consumer goods can lead to a cycle of ongoing inflation. Higher wages etc. See no reason to raise tariffs in any case. Republicans are not supposed to be about government intervention and protectionism but market forces.
  21. Is that a reference to the John Hewson cake saga of 1993
  22. Not if an externality like covid is the reason. Fair enough on more mining. Likely small effect though. Fair bit of food comes from overseas - canned dried frozen etc. He's suggesting an across the board tariff of 10 per cent on all US imports.
  23. Stolen goods too. Not the staff's fault.
  24. So I'll ask you again. Trump's policies seem to lead to more inflation. What will he do to reduce inflation to offset his proposed tariffs on foreign imports, continuing tax cuts for the rich that would otherwise expire, and possible influence on the normally independent interest rate policy.
  25. A good entertainer. Like Uri Geller back in the day.
