  1. With that experience, why not try the nearest governmental hospital. Also you can try online from india
  2. Does thailand have scientists in this field, already established laboratories? or thai population will serve as guinea pig in medical experiments? Nothing wrong with thot, but it should be spelled. genetic tests for cancer and the other illnesses already exist and are used. I have never heard thiland was pionier in this field
  3. It was her, and forensic institute she set up and chaired, who approved for purchase by thailand 2500 fake bomb, drug etc detectors called GT200, at $1000 per piece. By using this magic vand she has decided, that the only dead victim of police crackdown on PAD violent protest on 08.10.2008 near the parliament was hit by police gas canister. She, and nobody else ever admitted their mistake, apologised or faced any consequences. Many/all, that including her, were bribed by the manufacturer. also I have came accross an article from 10.11.2020, which shows her as a nasty piece of work: "The quite mad ultra-royalist and military junta appointed senator Pornthip Rojanasunand has accused protesters of being “unThai” and complained that “police commanders are not doing enough to protect the law and suppress [pro-democracy protesters]…”. going through archived articles at khasod english and prachathai english would bring more of her antics she is as corrupted, as nasty as all senators. Thats exactly why they were selected by the junta. All of them are the core of political establishment
  4. They should not unitarely revoke their bail, but organise large hunger strikes accross country. it's pointless to go to prison on their will. all those political prisoners already inside should consider hunger strike from the first day of being locked. those 2 are not taking any liquids and now in prison hospital. With rapidly deteriorating health. Probably will be put on saline drips. But its dangerous not to drink, with long term impact on all body systems.
  5. Aciclovir is OTC, the strongest 800mg. But you can divide, to lessen potiential side effects. that medicine gave me serious diarhea. there also migh be creams with aciclovir
  6. as I remember from earlier articles, there were some crew on board when she disappeared.
  7. the pacific cross. But pre-existing contidions are excluded
  8. eating is one way of infection. Swimming in freshwater and accidently swallowing water is another way. Even eating vegetable salad made with unwashed ingreedients. There are many thai vegetables grown on ponds
  9. only less than 50 known cases yearly in the world (asia, s america, africa), so she was extremely unlucky. Strange, that her diagnosis took 7 years. If her symptoms started in thailand, while still on holiday, she had a better chance of proper treatment, doctors are here are more familiar with this parasite. There are 2 medicines for a roundworm, which causes that illness, readily available in thai pharmacies (albendazole and ivermectin). The best is to take both those madicines at the same time, as they work synergistically.
  10. anaphylaxis can happen to any vaccination. That's why there is always doctor's consultation about any previous reactions to vax. After jab 30 minutes observation. Such serious reaction is rare. Possible reversible. Shingles can cause deafness as well - but only to one ear, on side of facial paralysis, it's called Ramsay Hunt syndrome (herpes zoster oticus)
  11. zostavax is the oldest, since 2006 probably hundreds of millions doses. It was withdrawn in the USA, because they have a better one, shingrix, when they had already reasonable stock. The rest of the world doesn't have much choice, yet. A few richest countries (some EU - but not all, UK, China, Singapore, Korea) got them. shingrix is since 2017 and mainly the USA, so maybe low tens of millions. Less data on long term safety. You can always get shingrix after zostavax, but maybe the other way round is not recommended. I think thatland is switching to skyzoster, because it's cheaper (3200b in comparison to 4800b zostavax) - partly because it's still phase 3. So market for it would be larger, simply that 1600b is 20% and makes difference for thai pensioner. Second reason might be short expiry date for zostavax and risk of losing stock when outdated. I have got my zostavax within just 1 year of expiry. But many other vaxes which I got in 2021 were just months within expiry. Thai medical tourism has collapsed during covid and hospitals had to dispose surplus. Skyzoster is fresh made with long expiry, and possibly longer expiry, than zostavax. thare is also varicella vax for the same virus, just 900b, but I think less potent, Can be boosted by the second dose
  12. if "wanes within the first 5 years after vaccination, and protection beyond 5 years is uncertain" so it would be wise to check sometimes before year 5th for antibodies. Wikipedia can be a good reference source, as they have to quote research papers. Other sources, like press articles, don't have to. Sometimes inventors and manufacturers deliberately misinform. For example skyzoster claims, that they are the second invented vax for shingles, but they are the 3th one https://www.biospectrumasia.com/news/37/21755/worlds-second-developed-shingles-vaccine-receives-biologics-license-application-approval-in-malaysia.html That is one of the reasons I would wait for, at least, the 4th phase, before contemplating them at all.
  13. he said that mobilisation has already started and will last the whole year. The other sources say it will start from 15.01. There is no recent influx of russian consctips to thailand. They were steadily flowing out for over a year now, and more since since mobilisation in september.
  14. in my home country in the EU, even zostavax was never available. Possibly, in a few years, they would have zostavax, but I would rather opt for 4th phase skyzoster, than zostavax booster And later, in some 10 years, shingrix in thailand or neighbourhood. I would do yearly varicella tests, which are cheap and harmless. Looks, like those 3 vax, are still being investigated for how long they protect and if they will need bosters. If zostavax lasts only 3 years (per wikipedia) or some 5 or 7 years (by the other sources), surely there is a need for a booster or for the other vaxes. I will ask doctors for the updates each time when going for a seasonal flu, covid or other shots. I would rather overvax than undervax, even if I would have to lie to doctor. I did already lie before getting prevnar 13, and that probably saved me from longer hospital stay for pneumonia. I have red on AN several threads about herpex zoster prevention in thailand, looks like some doctors prever to use aciclovir and other, instead of recommending zostavax. As if they preferred their patients getting sick
  15. russians, as well as ukrainians, were coming already before war, since November 2021, when thailand introduced test and go. Russians were the larger part of arrivals to phuket. If there is a recent influx, it's not related to war (nothing changed there recently, russian mobilisation was in September and lasted just a few days), but winter months, seasonal charter flights availability/lower fares. Exactly the same was happening pre-covid. They can go back to russia anytime and return to thailand unhindered, as many times as they want. They have passports and no need for visa - they are visa exempt. So 45+30 extention. There might be, however, influx of chinese, as soon as they will get passports, after 3 years of china not issuing passes. In both cases they have chance to marry thai citizens, stay permanently and apply for the WP. Workd cheaper than visa agents and without associated risk dealing with them.
  16. as zostavax lasts some 3-5-7 years (depending on source), what about getting skyzoster sometimes after 3 years? And later even going for shingrix (is already available in Singapore for some $420). Having zostavax in 2021 I have tried to get varicella vax in 2022 - I was told to do antibody test (some 300b) which confirmed strong immunity. What about having zostavax booster sometimes after 3 years - first checking for antibody? In my vax book they put no booster needed. Skyzoster is only in 3rd phase now. So looks like Thailand, and now Malaysia, are just testing fields for the 4th phase. I would rather avoid it for now, before phase 4th is known. In Korea skyzoster has only just half of the market. A few months ago Korea even approved shingrix. So they don't trust their own developed vax. Looks, like they are going to mix and match those 3.
  17. I had zostavax in May 2021 at that mahidol clinic, it was 4800b. looks like skyzoster available in siriraj hospital on thonburi since December 2021, no price given. Probably at the same time available at the mentioned travel clinic near Victory. https://www2.si.mahidol.ac.th/km/cop/clinical/medicationsafety/18601/ available at https://www.vibhavadi.com/Package/P0000190 for 4700b (special price till end of January)
  18. there is no any influx post-opening china. There are only 15 daily flights from china, it will take time to allocate airport slots.
  19. thailand tourism was growing at some 10% oer year, from 10mln in 2000 to 40mln in 2019. After covid growth is from 11mln in 2022 to possibly 25mln in 2023 - that if chinese will start coming at numbers (at the time they need obligatory insurance and might be facing the other curtailments, as to the other countries - pre-departure pcr). After that jump I would expect steady 10% growth every year. In 5 years time it might add up to 37mln. Many hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions shut down permanently in over 2 years of pandemic.
  20. there are now 2 vax - dengvaxia since 2016 and qdenga the last year (indonesia, the EU, the USA and more to follow)
  21. yes. the case of dengvaxia in Philippiness was politicised by Rodrigo Duterte as soon as he came to power, to lash at opposition, who approved free vax programm for kids in endemic areas. That was a flagship programm for opposition during election and it had to be torpedoed. Chances of getting denque in tropics is every 9 years, that's why it's recommended over age of nine. For expats it's recommended for those staying in tropics for over 9 years, even if there is no record of infection - denque is in 85% asymptomatic. It's also possible to check antibodies for an earlier infection, but test is as expensive as a dose of dengvaxia, around 2k baht. Now doctors do recommend this test, but in previous years it was not done. There is always doctor's consultation before jab and might be not approved
  22. please put any link to CDC or any other source, rather than just blankly negating what was said earlier. Poster might be a doctor, likely, but you don't know this. Malaria is pretty much not existent for tourists and expats in thailand. Might be a handful of cases per year. There are tens of cases in whole thailand, dense jungles in border aread with burma and cambodia. There is a huge difference in risk between tourists and expats at resorts and cities and tribal population high in the mountain jungles, with no sanitation and any readily medical care. There are multiple OTC medications available, including prevention (doxicicline is in avery pharmacy) but also for early treatment chloroquine and quinine in larger pharmacies. The most dangerous is dengue, some 70k cases per year with around 0.1% mortality so about 70. There are also 2 vaxes - dengvaxia available in thailand since 2017 (needs 3 doses at 2-3k each) and just released japanese Takeda, available already in Indonesia and also submitted for approval for thailand (that might take time, because dengvaxia is in surplus)
  23. Pathompol construction company has only 3mln registered capital in 2014, yet it was able to buy 500 buses a few years later. That thairath article link is difficult to understand in googletranslator, but most probabably khaosod english and the others will run this full story. Thainewsroom from the original post gives only a small picure
  24. just on Wednesday 11th January Chuwir passed his dossier on chinese triads connections to thai government to Future Forward. That yesterday's Padipad's revelation might be already part of this dossier, but I think it's too early for this. And I think the most juicy will be kept for censure debate https://www.facebook.com/KhaosodEnglish/posts/pfbid02K1gAiQL7ngyNHqRBwRKZxYYn8K5gKwK42CnkBJG8TLAbY15QaF8LPAM4eYda29LTl Prayuth has only 2 nephew's, both already well known in corruption and nepotism cases. It would be easy to identify which of them runs M&M Transport Co. In fact his name is already revealed in press in related to transport corruption case. According to Chuwit, Prayuth's nephew Pathompol Chan-ocha conspired with Chinese gangster 'Tu Hao' to import 'Sunlong' buses from Malaysia, thereby avoiding Thai import tax. Tu Hao's wife (high ranking police officer, already arrested about 2 weeks ago), is one of the nominees in MM Transport. Article published on 8th January https://www.thairath.co.th/news/politic/2597236 And his background is in 2014, just shortly after Prayuth coup: "Prayuth’s nephew, Pathompol Chan-ocha, is under investigation for his construction company, which was awarded nearly 200 million baht in army contracts since December 2014, despite its record of not having any other major projects before sealing deals with the military." That investigation ended without prosecution, it was suspended by the anti-corruption body, NACC, in 2017. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2017/02/14/nacc-suspends-inquiry-prayuths-nephew/
  25. tourists with insurance (and that is chinese and indians) do go rather to private hospitals, for better medical care. The government hospitals work directly with only limited thai insurers. When I have asked at my hospital they mentioned only 1 insurer. Some smaller hospitals don't know how to process international claims, as their departments don't have any experience with that. Those 10k covid beds in bangkok are mostly governmental hospitals. They are partially occupied, some 5% now so 500. I think that much beds do include some mothballed covid centers, which were full during delta in the summer 2021. I can't imagine they are regular hospital wards, that would mean that each of some 200 bangkok hospitals has some 50 beds empty, that is the whole floor. Private hospitals won't agree to put that many beds aside. They are for local population, just in case of the next wave (which well chinese can bring with some new unknown yet mutation - but new virus can come from any other country).
