  1. Anyhow, in one of the Discovery Channel DVD's about mummies i recently rented, there was one feature also about japanese mummies, and how Buddhist monks there developed techniques how to mummify themselves before death, a process that is now outlawed. That technique consisted of rigorous diet and exercise over many years to diminish bodyfat, and in the end they had to ingest laquer, i believe, which worked as a natural anti bacterial agent to stop the process of decomposition.

:o what a weird way to die.

this is unrelated, but it brings back freakish memories of the "medical" museum in some hospital in BKK some years ago. Full of preserved body parts, whole humans, and much worse. etc...

  2. well, if it is true that is amazing.

Back in the days of the Buddha, advanced spiritual seekers were often capable (according to the scriptures) of various magical feats. I wonder if he gained some super powers through his meditation.

  3. My non-photo, click wheel, (3rd Gen I think) i-pod went down some months back. The hard drive is corrupt and needs replacing. I can not find a 20 Gig replacement in Thailand, other than a second hand one in Pantip, which I don't want since it has a short guarantee and might go down too. Rather than throw the thing away I was thinking of replacing the hard drive with a flash memory of 2 or 4 gig. I have looked on the net and can't find out if this is possible. I know the nano's and micros are flash memory and the others are actual hard drives. I asked in the Apple shop in Pantip if I would be able to do this. The girl said yes, but to be honest I think she would have said yes if I'd asked her if it's possible to turn it into a time machine.

Has anyone any experience of doing this, or any ideas as to its feasibility?

I'm not sure if the ipod uses 1.8 inch HDD but if they do, 32GB flash drives for 2.5 & 1.8 inch drives have been out for a while, as reported here

they drain less battery, are more shock resistant, 3 x quicker access times but now expensive and limited writes.

i got a 2G 2GB nano and its got a very high build and sound quality

  4. How about you all ?

Have done a self portrait of myself although I may need to refine my technique, ( See up-loaded sketch and give opinions and tips pls) :o

Is there lIke training classes I can to take, maybe I can make some money from this hobbie and give cash to to the starving kids in Africa or something .

  5. " It's not right for the good person who desires happiness to pray for it,instead the good person who desires happiness should walk the path of practice leading to happiness."

    Anguttara Nikaya 5.43

Thanks for that. Here is the full sutta from Access to Insight

Then Anathapindika the householder went to the Blessed One and, on arrival, having bowed down to him, sat to one side. As he was sitting there the Blessed One said to him: "These five things, householder, are welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world. Which five?

"Long life is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world.

"Beauty is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world.

"Happiness is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world.

"Status is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world.

"Rebirth in heaven is welcome, agreeable, pleasant, & hard to obtain in the world.

"Now, I tell you, these five things are not to be obtained by reason of prayers or wishes. If they were to be obtained by reason of prayers or wishes, who here would lack them? It's not fitting for the disciple of the noble ones who desires long life to pray for it or to delight in doing so. Instead, the disciple of the noble ones who desires long life should follow the path of practice leading to long life. In so doing, he will attain long life, either human or divine.

"It's not fitting for the disciple of the noble ones who desires beauty to pray for it or to delight in doing so. Instead, the disciple of the noble ones who desires beauty should follow the path of practice leading to beauty. In so doing, he will attain beauty, either human or divine.

"It's not fitting for the disciple of the noble ones who desires happiness to pray for it or to delight in doing so. Instead, the disciple of the noble ones who desires happiness should follow the path of practice leading to happiness. In so doing, he will attain happiness, either human or divine.

"It's not fitting for the disciple of the noble ones who desires status to pray for it or to delight in doing so. Instead, the disciple of the noble ones who desires status should follow the path of practice leading to status. In so doing, he will attain status, either human or divine.

"It's not fitting for the disciple of the noble ones who desires rebirth in heaven to pray for it or to delight in doing so. Instead, the disciple of the noble ones who desires rebirth in heaven should follow the path of practice leading to rebirth in heaven. In so doing, he will attain rebirth in heaven."

    Long life, beauty, status, honor,

    heaven, high birth:

    To those who delight

    in aspiring for these things

    in great measure, continuously,

    the wise praise heedfulness

    in making merit.

    The wise person, heedful,

    acquires a two-fold welfare:

    welfare in this life &

    welfare in the next.

By breaking through to his welfare

    he's called prudent,

    wise.
