  1. This video was on the front page of the Nation...

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/specials/n...s&cateid=13

The fighting style consisted of flailing arms mainly as a defense barrier, and the occasional kick to push away the attacker. Later in the fight they start pulling hair. Some onlookers were walking back and forth, looking confused.

"The video shows the bickering between student girls from a famous college in northern province of Chiangrai."

  2. i mean, the OP has some very good points, men also dont have big breasts which are a burden for any sports activity. They exist to serve one purpose and are needed only for a short duration yet the poor women have to lug them around with them everywhere they go for all their adult life. its a bad deal IMO

  3. A bhikkhu who attempts suicide incurs a dukkata offense, according to the Vinaya.

The monk in question may be excused for this, depending on the type and extent of his mental illness (eg some form of madness).

    That is sad news, sbk.

  4. I live very near, the room opposite mine in fact and I work with a number of muslims.

When I causally question them about for eg, 11 sep, I seem to get answers closer to justification and further from condemnation. This is an observation.

I wonder if we were to ask some of the villagers similar types of questions (in the context of the insurgency) and if they were to respond in a similar way.

  5. Grover, my point was about how Thai Muslims feel Thai, not whether Muslims would side with their religion. I think in the greater sense across the globe the extremists use the Koran as an excuse to back up violence but most Muslims certainly do not

    Point taken seonai.

lets hope this fire goes out quickly :o

  6. Most Thai Muslims don't want a seperate state...

when it comes down to the crunch, the extremists can quote the koran to justify their actions - the "word of god". end of story.... thats why most thai muslims dont complain too much with the extremists. cant exactly argue with "god" can they.

  7. Anyway I talked to a Thai girl recently and she firmly believed that if she just shared a bed with a man and slept with him (no sex) she would get pregnant. She also had the same belief that Thai women change their blood every month and therefore have difficulty in picking up HIV. She also firmly believed that if you ever have sex with more than one person you'd get HIV. When I asked why people used condoms she didn't know. Oh I forgot to mention the girl was about 30 years old and as far as I know had a reasonable education.

    thats laughable.

and you believe she was telling the truth or taking the piss out of you? :o or maybe making herself sound more "virginal"...

  8. Its the abbots and the senior monks who have a responsibility for teaching the vinaya (monks rules) to the new monks. Some new monks think it is "cool" to flaunt/bend the rules but again, its comes back to the senior monks (and reflects poorly on them and the temple - and buddhism in general).

  9. Hehe - Thanks guys... i woke this morning to two dozen virgins chained up ready for sacrifice (must have been hard work finding virgins in bangkok!!)

sounds like you had a howling time.

    p.s. (they are all virgins)

  10. :D Enter the monkhood and all will be fine.....pleeeeeeese, spare us this tragic version of boooodhism :D
I'm just waiting for the actor to announce he's going into the monkhood... :o

At this point in time he could not ordain. He would have to deal with his punishment first.

Its a shame he had to drag buddhism into it.

from the list of monk disqualifications at access to insight:

(B.) A suspect or criminal for whom a warrant has been sent out. At present this would include people on probation or parole.

edited to fix up the b.) smiley bug :D

  11. I've seen a lot of instances of flaming here and there, in the ladies forum and elsewhere.

But the most vicious flaming attack (by a long shot) I have seen made to another lady of this forum was made by....

    another so called lady!

extremely disappointing for me, and needless to say she went from hero to zero.

  12. Lawyer says deposed Thai premier ready to fight extradition

Noppodon on Tuesday made it clear that Thaksin and his wife would also intended to miss the June 26 deadline, making an extradition case more likely.

    - DPA

DPA has corrected the date in the above article to July 26, the new must-return-by date established by the DSI.

July 26? The deadline will surely put a dampener on his birthday celebrations.

  14. I get most of my reading material from Amazon, although shipping for used books is expensive. Theres heaps of good reading material online if you are willing to do some research.

Ive also digitally photographed some of my bulkier non-fiction books (only takes about 5 minutes for a 300 page book), as it has advantages in portability and easier to read on a big monitor.

  15. I might add that if worry over whether keeping these ear plugs is the extent of your karmic danger, you strike me as being in pretty good shape. That you appear to be genuinely worried about this strikes me as another point in your favor. I confess that I have a hard time applying the word "greed" to ear plugs, as you do...

I'm not too worried about all this, I am more interested in the process of making a decision on the issue. I was using the term "greed" as a motivating force behind actions and thoughts, it was a type of greed in a subtle form. And earplugs are not the extent of my karmic danger :o Just I think its easier to get the small things right before tackling the bigger ones.

  16. The earplugs are "consumables." They are a cost of doing business. They get used up, and thrown away. If I understand you correctly, you are concerned that you keep a few in your pocket INSTEAD of throwing them away.

Yes you understood what I meant correctly.

If you did throw them away, and then you later went to look through the garbage and found some earplugs to use, would that be theft? I ask seriously.

I dont know. But say if picking out used earplugs from bins was not considered theft, could I then get a new set, put them in my ears for 5 seconds, throw the "used" plugs in the bin, pick them out and claim ownership ? At what point does the earplug become "used" and how am I to make that judgment ?

Chownah mentioned something about intent before, but how can I trust my intent ? I would need perfect discernment which I dont have. I detect a small element of greed somewhere behind my actions but I dont think this greed necessarily indicates I am doing a karmically bad thing as far as theft goes.

  17. Congrats on your progress garro. I think its time you found an experienced meditator and explain to him whats been happening. If he has had similar experienced he can help/guide you. Good luck, and as they say the teacher will be availble when the student is ready.
