  1. Or maybe the bromance has run its course. Maybe Trump has been cheating on Putin and is now embracing another strongman.
  2. To judge from the kind of situations jingthing was citing, I'd say his concerns were more specific than general. But he is the only person who can actually clarify what he was concerned about.
  3. And the best way to keep that from happening it to push for tax cuts?
  4. All you offer is empty insults. That's because you've got nothing.
  5. And think that the Nuremberg principles exist just for decorative purposes?
  6. Which apparently by your lights would include most economists.
  7. Some food bans are about protecting from diseases and also certain U.S. animal husbandry practices like using ractopamine. They aren't alone in this. As of 2014, according to the Humane Society, the use of ractopamine was “banned or restricted” in 160 countries,[6] including the European Union, China and Russia,[7][8] while 27 other countries, such as Japan, the United States, South Korea, and New Zealand have deemed meat from livestock fed ractopamine safe for human consumption.[9][10][11] It's true that their tariffs on alcoholic beverages are way too high. But the thing is, one of the factors that has kept Thailand from making more economic progress is their protectionism. But it does suit the people at the top of the thai economy.
  8. Well, given that they don't live in America, why wouldn't they be shielded from Trump's tariffs. Of course, if they ordered stuff from the USA and their country of residence imposed retaliatory tariffs, they would be affected in a secondary way.
  9. Where were tariffs more than 34% before. Maybe on a few items? But on average? Where? Trump's tariffs have nothing to do with the tariffs imposed by other countries. They were computed figuring out what exports are of imports. Then that percentage is divided by 2. And that's the tariff. the exception being that if that number is less than 10 percent, then it's rated at 10 percent. Even for countries that run a trade deficit with the USA.
  10. And are they sharing their ill-gotten gains with the peer reviewers at scientific journals? And if so, do you have evidence of this?
  11. Thanks for sharing with us something entirely new: a conspiracy theory.
  12. Maybe soon people will be eating a lot less and the problem will be taken care of.
  13. Hive mind? Lemming mind?
  14. Not really. There's lot of stuff on Amazon that shopee and lazada don't offer. Probably because of tariffs. If they were to all, then maybe they would get some of that stuff too.
  15. That is a fair point. And it is true now that 50% of the spending in the US economy comes from the top 10%. Not so long ago it was 34%. Still, it isn't like the US economy has suffered a material 11 trillion dollar loss.
  16. What makes it a little bit sad is that it's a single parent. It can't be easy with some many children spread out all over the world.
  17. Given the dubiousness of the claims that Musk continues to make, I'll wait and see what an independent analysis determines about these claims.
  18. But that's stocks. Not the productive capacity of the U.S. economy. Tariffs will negatively affect that over time but not right away.
  19. Do you think companies that import these products are so clueless as not to determine hat they are selling for? And do you think that competitive bidding isn't a thing?
  20. That's old news. This is more recent "However, companies that import vehicles under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will get special consideration until the Commerce Department establishes a process for levying the 25% duties, the White House said. USMCA-compliant auto parts will remain tariff-free until the commerce secretary, in consultation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, establishes a process to apply tariffs to their non-U.S. content." https://www.nbcnews.com/business/autos/trump-auto-tariffs-which-companies-how-much-when-what-to-know-rcna198223
  21. The United States imposes a 25% tariff on most imported light trucks.
  22. Back in the 50's and early 60's the same kind of comment was made about the stuff that Japan produced. As the EV market shows, China is very capable of making very high tech products. It's a huge economy and can produce a range of things. A few years ago, Apple decided to manufacture a notebook in Texas. It didn't go well. As Apple noted, in China, you will have a roomful of engineers making suggestions. In America, there's a severe shortage of engineers.
  23. Popular Snap-On Tools Not Made in the USA Cordless Screwdriver Kit – China Variable Speed Polisher – China Gas Torches – Ireland Welding Helmets – China Safety Gloves – China Air Compressors – Canada and China https://allamerican.org/investigation/snap-on-tools/
  24. But Trump's justification for tariffs was that they are responsible for trade imbalances. Yet Australia usually has a trade deficit with the U.S. During the first 2 months of this year it did run a surplus but that's attributable to the fact that importers were stocking up to beat the imposition of tariffs. Here's the record for trade in goods for 2024. https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c6021.html
