Musk targets Social Security with blatant misinformation
placeholder replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
Thanks for the correction. I was thinking that because they can't hold a regular job in the States, that they wouldn't be liable for taxes. -

And what's that got to do with the social security trust fund? Are you back on to the issues that you criticize me for addressing? You know, the issues that you originally raised. -

I wasn't aware that people who have an ITIN number pay taxes. -

To claim EITC, you have to have a social security number. An ITIN won't do it. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/who-qualifies-for-the-earned-income-tax-credit-eitc -

Do you read what you write? You're the one who threw in the bit about illegal aliens not paying for health care and all that stuff. If you want to confine it to social security payments, the payments illegal aliens make into social security are definitely a net plus for the government. As for the rest of your nonsense, it's what you usually resort to when you have nothing to offer which is virtually always. Come on, for a change link to something that actually backs up what you claim. -
A small government team regulating the sort of autonomous cars that Elon Musk says represent the future of Tesla, his car company, is getting cut nearly in half by the Musk-led U.S. Doge Service, according to people briefed on the reductions. https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/doge-employee-cuts-fall-heavily-on-agency-that-regulates-musk-s-tesla/ar-AA1ztOIP

I didn't say all illegal aliens pay into the system. But the fact is a lot do. In total, the tax contribution of undocumented immigrants amounted to 26.1 percent of their incomes in 2022. This figure is close to the 26.4 percent rate facing the median income group of the overall U.S. population.[5] This closeness is the net result of factors that tend to lower the tax contributions of undocumented immigrants relative to U.S. citizens (such as lower incomes, lower income tax compliance, and lower smoking rates), as well as factors that tend to increase the contributions of those immigrants (such as tax credit restrictions, reduced likelihood of claiming refunds owed, and lower prevalence of tax-preferred retirement and investment income). These issues are discussed in more detail in the report methodology. https://itep.org/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-2024/ Are you claiming that the taxes illegal aliens pay into the system don't cover what they cost the government? Show a link to evidence to back up that claim. -

Thanks for the remarkably clueless comment. In fact, illegal aliens pay into social security but they don't get anything back out of it. They are net contributors. -
Actually, I am usually criticized for providing too much evidence. Can I help it if you can't be bothered to read what the links I post lead to? The United States government is a huge entity. Of course, there's going to be waste and fraud. Just like there's going to be waste and fraud in any large organization including Tesla. The issue is how do you deal with it? Would Tesla shut down its assembly lines on the suspicion that there might be waste and/or fraud in its part dept?. I doubt it, and neither should the Federal govt. What Trump and Musk have done is to gut programs on a presumptive basis. We have seen so many of Musk's claims disintegrate. Yet that doesn't seem to bother those who back his efforts.

I believe you when you say that you have an appetite for falsehoods. And the proof of that is you reject what I say. For instance, many of the claims made by the OP have been proven to be false. And no, I'm not going to list them for you as they've been gone over in great detail repeatedly in this thread.

Giving your appetite for falsehoods, I'm not surprised.

This has got to be one of the most clueless comments I have ever read in this forum. I wish I found it hard to believe that you could mistake what I presented there as facts.

"Multiple polls this week have shown his approval rating dropping into more normal territory for him, in the mid-40s. And a new Washington Post-Ipsos poll crystallizes a number of warning signs for Trump’s agenda of drastic and legally dubious change. Indeed, Americans seem to be quite concerned by how far Trump is going, and most of his signature policies and initiatives appear to be quite unpopular — especially those spearheaded by billionaire Elon Musk." https://archive.ph/C08bk

Voting for the Mayor Who Promised to Blow Up the City Doesn’t Mean I Approve of the Mayor Blowing Up the City by Mike Drucker It’s so easy to label people these days. From the way folks have been talking, you’d think everyone falls into two buckets: those who voted against the mayor who promised to blow up the city and those who voted for the mayor who promised to blow up the city. And now that the mayor, whom I voted for, is blowing up the city, as he promised, I’m one of many people who are being unfairly blamed for something I didn’t want... https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/voting-for-the-mayor-who-promised-to-blow-up-the-city-doesnt-mean-i-approve-of-the-mayor-blowing-up-the-city?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Taking Trump seriously but not literally turned out to be a big mistake for those voters.

Go ahead and keep call those points names rather than refuting them.

This really hasn't aged well at all.

Whether you add hominy or just plain cornmeal, your comment makes no sense. On the other hand, if you meant ad hominem, well, in that case your comment would still make no sense.

I guess Alexander Navalny doesn't disagree with that. But that's because he died in a Russian prison. But the thing is, the opposition was allowed to say anything they liked about the Ukraine War as long as it was supportive. Oh...and it was a criminal offense to call it a war.

The purpose of the campaign is to inform the general public that vaccines still provide the best protection against the common flu. Although vaccines do not necessarily prevent the flu and individuals can certainly get the flu even after vaccination, the rate of complications like infection of the lung are significantly diminished, and symptoms from flu for those vaccinated tend to be much milder when compared to those who get the flu and are unvaccinated... Flu cases are the highest they have been in the last decade, with at least 29 million flu illnesses this season, 370,000 hospitalizations and 16,000 deaths, according to the CDC. https://archive.ph/r12th https://www.forbes.com/sites/omerawan/2025/02/20/cdc-halts-successful-flu-vaccination-campaign-sparking-health-concerns/

Trump popularity sinks as Americans quickly sour on economy: poll
placeholder replied to bannork's topic in Political Soapbox
Links don't work anymore so you have to actually copy the url and not the text. that would ordinarily link to the text. Anyway, Musk actually boasted about this: Musk Says He’s ‘Deleted’ Popular Free IRS Tax Filing Program President Trump’s “special government employee,” Elon Musk, announced on Monday that he had dissolved the Internal Revenue Service’s free file program—suggesting that he effectively fired the staff who worked on the popular program. The billionaire revealed that he “deleted” the group of individuals who oversaw the system that allows Americans to easily file their taxes for free on the IRS website. The IRS-run free and simplified tax filing option had 76% approval from registered voters based on a 2023 poll by Navigator. https://www.thedailybeast.com/musk-says-hes-deleted-popular-free-irs-tax-filing-program/ -
Well, maybe if he was Donald Trump, he would call an election. Because to do that, he would have to violate the Ukrainian Constitution which specifically says elections can't be held while martial law is in effect.

On his radio show, Levin delivered a history lesson on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s rise to power and various crimes, while going to bat for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “ I mean, this is almost comical in a sick way that Putin is demanding an election. Why is he demanding an election in Ukraine when he doesn’t have free and real elections in his own country? And why does he-, why does he get to call the shots when in fact, he murders people who dare to challenge him?” https://www.mediaite.com/news/mark-levin-defies-trump-by-backing-zelensky-and-trashing-putin-bashes-sick-and-un-american-foreign-policy/
