  1. Said before the true restaurants will get rolled into the 'bar/restaurants' in footing the blame. The town halls issued the licences when it was obvious that they were still going to operate as bars so blame lays with them. Meanwhile those proper restaurants that have been open months will suffer along with the bars. Question is would these bars have converted to restaurants if alcohol was still not allowed on eateries? Of course not so it was obvious to anyone, officials included, what would happen and how they would operate, regardless of licence status

Anutin did mention fleetingly during a statement he made within the last couple of Days, that there was and upsurge again of the Delta variant, as well as the Omicron Outbreak.

Maybe this is the reason for the slight uptick of ventilated numbers

But this was Anutin speaking, so who really knows ?

Problem with low testing, low numbers to sequence and see which variant is circulating. Knowing true case numbers gives you an idea of how virus is spreading and planning to be taken place for health services, etc.

They have to be joking all the bars i saw in Pattaya were rammed and not a test in sight,,

Exactly what the authorities want. They set the rules, bar/restaraunts don't follow them and authorities will say, you don't follow rules so we're going to shut it all down, leave us no choice. Plus if they do follow the rules there will be so few wanting to risk the ATK hospital incarceration lottery it would turn into a defacto shutdown.

It sounds as if the BMA is starting to get a little worried. ATK testing as above post by @onthedarkside tells me that things are worrying the provincial folks here in Bangkok.

Noticing that many pharmacies are out of kits.

Me thinks that the official figures don't tally with measures and restrictions been put in place, limiting alcohol, limiting alcohol hours in blue zones, police patrols in Pattaya, national park closure's, etc. Pretty sure the CCSA and authorities know the true numbers of infection. Compare it to a news clip I saw of Mexican president saying they have no surge, not ramping up restrictions on tourism, don't even publish vaccination figures. That's a true head in the sand haven't a clue.

Creative accounting for saving the sandbox is my guess.........................

"Can anyone explain this? In the Top 10, it says 416 cases for Phuket which is only local cases. It doesn’t include 219 from elsewhere. However, Samut Prakan shows 669 cases (352 local cases and 317 from elsewhere). So, why is the Top 10 not showing 635 cases for Phuket? #Thailand"

Figures are all over the place, we have different figures published provincially to central, have figures put up them changed few hour later. Know what they say about liars, they trip up eventually.

In UK, the death rate appears very low. We really need a bit of proportion and context here.

Also in the UK, the unsung hero appears to be AZ, due its T cell protection, and that may bode well for Thailand too.  It really is a life saver for old people, and possibly the best overall.

I believe Thais are more accessible to public health advice, and this combined with some regulation may keep cases down to around 50k a day imo, compared with 170k in UK and some European countries.

Testing numbers will limit  the published  cases in Thailand.

You're comparing apples to oranges, aint there strict rules for entry into places in Pattaya, ATK test before entering etc?

Phuket is supose to be restrcition free....sort of.

Strict rules and of course they are all following them, and everywhere check bin 11pm and all out, cashed up and shut by midnight. Trust me I was talking to someone tonight in a bar at 3 am. Problem in Thailand is they don't follow the rules, the police don't enforce them and the government knows this so they bring in across the board bans/restrictions/closures. It's like Bojo asking people to refrain from doing things, middle finger goes up.

Omicron is here so we can expect a massive rise in cases. How are they going to hospitalize people who just need to isolate for a week or so if numbers reach 200k a day like in the UK.

Never, they won't reach 200k because they don't test enough PCR and don't include ATK that are reported.

I was never one for closing bars now that Omicron is out in the wild, the UK managed Omicron without closing bars or clubs, although their immunity levels are higher than Thailand. The schools are the most important aspect to the measures that concern me. Having bars open and schools shut I will never agree with.

Schools don't generate enough money for those at the top, plus they need the uneducated to carry out all the unskilled work in their big industries. Can't have the peasants bettering themselves and threatening the elite circles hold on power. Totally agree with you though, if other nonessential business are open then schools should 100% be open.

So I skimmed through the entire thread and it seems the very low mortality rate is of no interest or significance to any of the posters. Absolutely unbelievable!

Low mortality rate but if hospitals end up with too many covid admissions and have to cancel routine health care then the health system is under too much pressure. It's not just the mortality, it's pressure on health services and don't forget the symptoms of long covid that can result, that is something no one in Thailand seems to talk about. A good friend had covid April 2020 and has struggled with his sleep ever since.
