  1. Where can I invest in Russian bank deposits? I will gladly sing the praises of Putin and take 23%. After my tax rate, I promise to give 25% of proceeds to Ukraine.
  2. You can't be serious? In excess of 60% of Canadians have private health care coverage. It is called group health or private health and is first sourced at the workplace. It insures the worker and their immediate family. The coverage is portable upon leaving employment or retirement. Dental care, medications, eye glasses, diagnostic procedures such as blood sampling or MRIs can be done in the private care system and all are reimbursable. Mental health care, physiotherapy, audiologists, speech therapy and travel health insurance is provided by the private system. The health insurers administer and pay these claims. Here is an example; https://www.manulife.ca/personal/insurance/our-products/health-insurance/health-and-dental.html
  3. A touchless transaction is the fastest possible transaction. A wave of the card over the scanner and it is done. Hackers are going after bank accounts and are relying on consumers to input their own data. The security exposure exiists whether or not one uses a credit card. I am not afraid of handling money and carry a few thousand baht with me,, but do welcome an opportunity to reduce the likelihood of direct contact. The link between transmission of infectious disease and physical objects, in this case, coins and banknotes is well documented. The beauty of touchless transactions is that one does not need to key in anything, nor handle dirty objects. Salmonella species, Escherichia coli and S. aureus are commonly isolated from banknotes from food outlets. Laboratory simulations revealed that methicillin-resistant S. aureus can easily survive on coins, whereas E. coli, Salmonella species and viruses, including human influenza virus, Norovirus, Rhinovirus, hepatitis A virus, and Rotavirus, can be transmitted through hand contact. 4. MAGA has nothing to do with this. Her statements are her own. Can't or won't believe the documentation?
  5. No it wouldn't. Health insurance companies would transition to a fee for service model and would be contracted as third party administrators. That's how it is done with private health insurance now in jurisdictions that have government healthcare programs. E.g. UK, Canada.
  6. Easy to blame the health insurers. Convenient too. The health insurers are one small part of the cost structure. On the contrary, the health insurers would dearly love to reduce the cost of healthcare. The culprits are the US public. 1. The largest investors in the private healthcare industry are pension funds both public and private, mutual fund companies and venture capital investment houses. Their sole objective is to maximize the return on investment. When the ROI is not achieved, the investors, beneficiaries, fund holders are up in arms. 2. The health care providers themselves are a major factor in keeping procedure costs up. Surgeons want to keep their $500,000+ incomes. 3. Private hospitals are there to make a profit, not to deliver affordable healthcare. They are the middlemen delivering healthcare and want their cut. 4. The litigious nature of Americans requires all healthcare providers to make additional profits because they often have to pay unreasonable excess settlements. When a morbidly obese person has a high risk procedure like child birth and the child is born damaged, the family typically sues and claims negligence. it results in expensive court cases and nuisance settlements. 5. The cost of supplies and drugs is subject to large cost markups through the supply chain. Everyone takes a cut, from the overpaid Teamsters who deliver the goods, to the supply houses who markup the products, to the sales person who wines and dines hospital administrators and physicians to encourage their purchases. 6. The consumer. Many hospitals are stuck with the unpaid medical care of the indigent and those who just don't pay. Honest people are forced to pay for them
  7. Great zeus, in June 1922, Penrose made the first recording of this song, which was released on Regal Records. You must be rather ancient.
  8. Did you not read the case? Aside from the harassment, they defied legal orders to cease and desist.
  9. Oh she is employable. Many charities, social service organizations and private businesses will welcome a person just like her.
  10. They are trafficked. The women are not told that they would be obliged to have multiple sexual partners in any given day and to assume the increased risk of contracting deadly and long term diseases such as HPV, HIV, Hepatitis etc. No woman says, yes, I want to have sexual intercourse with 5+ men, some of whom will abuse me and be disgusting, creepy gross vile loathsome losers. They are typically promised jobs in shops or massage shops. They are then coerced, often through violence into the sex trade. That is the reality.
  11. No, they are not petrified. Most are clueless as to what awaits the North American economy. Yes, some of the US stakeholders in the Canadian subsidiaries are worried. Other Canadian stakeholders are acting in an appropriate manner and preparing to counter the ignorance of tariffs. The Ontario advertising campaign was planned and announced months ago. Ontario is the USA's 3rd largest trading partner. Two‐way trade between Ontario and the US exceeded US$354 billion in 2023 and has risen 26% since 2018. The province was the top export destination for 17 US states last year. If Canada imposes retaliatory tariffs like it did last time Trump started his bullying on Aluminum and Steel, many Republican states will suffer. Last time, the USA backed down relatively quickly once the Governors and Congressional members pointed out the economic damage the US tariffs were causing. Beware the peril of hubris. Every time Trump pokes the Canadians, it usually costs the USA something. Look at how many Republican states are dependent on exports to Canada. State Total State Export in Millions USD Share of Total State Exports North Dakota $4,388 84.60% Maine $1,229 52.80% Michigan $17,341 39.40% Ohio $17,273 38.40% Vermont $918 38.30% South Dakota $524 38.00% Montana $544 37.90% Missouri $4,453 34.90% Idaho $1,184 34.80% Indiana $11,080 31.40% Wisconsin $6,226 30.40% West Virginia $1,283 28.10% Iowa $3,460 27.40% Oklahoma $1,452 27.00% Kentucky $6,550 26.50% Pennsylvania $9,699 25.90% Illinois $13,261 24.80% Minnesota $4,828 24.00% New York $13,773 22.30% Arkansas $1,148 22.10% North Carolina $5,881 20.70% Tennessee $5,818 20.70% Mississippi $2,082 20.30% Wyoming $225 19.30% New Jersey $7,229 19.00% Rhode Island $410 17.10% irginia $2,717 16.50% Delaware $619 15.80% Colorado $1,278 15.40% Georgia $5,146 13.30% Maryland $1,581 12.50% Massachusetts $2,746 11.00% Retaliatory tariffs can and will damage Republican state economies.
  12. Antisemitism. Most of the protests have singled out followers of the jewish faith, or people who were presumed to be of jewish faith . The protests have gone beyond advocating a political position to one of calling for death and injury to jews and of promoting violence. In effec overt and blatant discrimination.
  13. The Guardian journalists in their rush to cover Israel's alleged wrongdoings ignored the atrocities and horrors now being publicized in Syria.
  14. For a long time Greta was treated as a deity, off limits because she was a "child". The recent comments are just more in a long list of political sloganeering. She has every right to express her political views. However, the public also has every right to respond to her hate speech and to treat her accordingly.
  15. So much for the myth of gay tolerance. A gathering of consenting adults and with drug quantities of minimal amounts. And for this, the police undertake a lengthy covert operation and then proceed to humiliate people who are otherwise law abiding and peaceful. And meanwhile, under the very noses of the police children are trafficked for sexual purposes, drugs are trafficked and violent crimes undertaken. A quick look at the photo shows most everyone is probably between ages 23 and 35. All of them are fit. No one is covered in tattoos. Right off the bat, it is easy to tell that they are well off and educated by Thai standards. My takeaway is that this will result in a shakedown. The charges will go away once a brown envelope is volunteered. It is less likely to show stains. I expect that some people will be oozing or dripping once they get done. I doubt shower facilities were provided. It makes it easier to see who is wearing surveillance equipment. Some people sell videos either for monetization purposes or as extortion. Others are snitches. And yes, Thais are remarkably modest. My thai male friends wear underwear under their swim shorts. I have asked why, and they honest response is that they don't want to expose the outline of their distended genitalia.
  16. Since Tucker's propaganda piece, Russia has suffered a significant setback in Syria. Russia supported the despot Assad and at some point, the Syrians will ask the unwelcome occupying Russian military to leave.
  17. There is always the expertise of a health professional who has experience with tropical ailments. My spider bite resulted in significant swelling of my hand and itchiness.
  18. Dunkirk, Goodfellas, Casino, Casablanca, Bride on the River Kwai, La battaglia di Algeri (The Battle of Algeria), D-Day Seven Samurai (Original Japanese), Das Boot, Lawrence of Arabia, Full Metal Jacket, Downfall, Dirty Harry, Letters from Iwo Jima, Empire of The Sun, Crouching Tiger -Hidden Dragon, Apollo 13, A Bridge Too Far, All the James Bond films except the one with George Lazenby , Forrest Gump, Scarface (Original 1932), Gone with The Wind, All Quiet on the Western Front (Original 1930), The Four Feathers (Original 1939), Khartoum, Zulu, Maurice, White Heat, Yankee Doodle Dandy. I like period pieces, action and the (Imagined) good old days of the British Empire, when the USA was a world leader and when good triumphed over evil.
  19. The reputable massage shops do not do the neck manipulations. The staff at the good shops always ask before they start how hard you want it. One of the benefits of Hua Hin is that the clientele is mostly age 60+ and the staff behave accordingly, so the likelihood of getting a James Bond killer session is remote.
  20. Dishonesty, tax evasion, and other misdeeds have a day of reckoning. Rubert Grint, thought he was being smart and thought he could hide behind his accountants, but he is ultimately liable as he approved the filings and tax returns. He now owes £1.8m in back taxes for his 2011-2012 declaration of £4.5m in income as a capital asset rather than as income. He thought he could get by with the lower 10% capital gains tax rate, rather than the higher income tax rate of 52%. His case had gone on for years and now in addition to his tax liability, he has his legal costs. Previously, he was caught trying to play the filing year system by declaring his income in a lower tax applicable year and thereby receive a £1m tax refund. The tax man and the grim reaper don't leave anyone behind.
  21. The ridicule of public health efforts to protect the population is really offensive. All that the Thai MoH is doing is exercising common sense. They are trying to screen for people who are coming from the region where there is a serious deadly disease. What exactly is wrong about that? I am thankful that this is being done. Maybe some arrogant condescending foreigners are not. I also know that they will be the first to run to the hospital when they are infected and expect to be treated right away.
  22. There is no medication to treat the disease. There are medications to manage some of the symptoms. There were indeed significant "scares" and as much as you ridicule public health, the fact that we did not have an epidemic in Europe and North America was because of their collective quick action. You are obviously unaware of the quick access to vaccines for high risk groups, the travel monitoring and the education effort that was undertaken. There were major outbreaks last summer in Canada, USA and the EU. The response was to provide free vaccines to the high risk exposure groups and to educate. It worked.
  23. They don't usually bother with the Jews. They know that the extreme leftists, islamic hate groups and "socially aware" enablers will do it for them. Instead, they focus on presenting themselves as defenders of the European culture. And as much as the extreme right likes a bit of good old jew bashing they are smart enough to see that the return on the investment of time and the high risk that attaches, just isn't worth the effort.
  24. You do know that this is Thailand, don't you? Mental health is a neglected and underfunded health care sector. As of July 2022, Thailand had only registered 845 psychiatrists and 1,037 psychologists, which works out to 1.28 psychiatrists and 1.57 psychologists for every 100,000 people. This is significantly lower than the world's average of 10.15 mental health professionals for every 100,000 people. Of that number, only a small number are trained and specialize in pediatric and adolescent healthcare. One must either be wealthy or be given priority to access a trained mental health professional. Children and adolescents aged 0–18 years in Thailand experience a high burden of poor mental health. One in 7 adolescents aged 10–19 and 1 in 14 children aged 5–9 are estimated to have a mental disorder (including developmental disorder). Suicide is the third leading cause of death of adolescents aged 15–19.1 Risk factors for poor mental health are also prevalent. These include exposure to violence, peer victimization and bullying, and loneliness and social isolation. Source: 1) Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, ‘Global Burden of Disease Study’, 2019 2) Strengthening Mental Health and Psychosocial Support systems and services for children and adolescents in the East Asia and Pacific region: Thailand country report 2022 Mental health treatment often consists of the dispensing of medication by GPs who do not undertake any psychological counselling or offer psychiatric treatment. A child sexual abuse victim requires the support of a trained mental health counsellor, typically a psychologist. Accessing this type of a professional is difficult for even those with the money to pay for the treatment. And no, specialized psychological treatment for child sex victims is not fully covered under the universal care plan.
  25. I voted yes. It has been a veritable gold mine of information for foreign intelligence agencies. Thailand is like the international concessions of Shanghai prior to the Japanese invasion. The subterfuge, the machinations and even a little bit of Casablanca movie scenarios. I am surprised that all the proponents of conspiracy claims, are not supportive of the Russian presence. It's how some of the claims are supported. And if it weren't for the Russians and their need to launder money, many westerners would be in dire straits as the westerners are important enablers. The Russians have pumped money into the struggling Thai tourism sector, boosting incomes. They have bought up poor performing businesses to be used for their fronting and laundering and there are even some erstwhile efforts to have a legitimate business. On a human level, although few in number, many of the Russian kids (early to mid 20's) are rather decent. Polite and cheerful despite their often being hard up for money, I genuinely feel for them and try to be nice. The older Russians though, get my disdain. They are recognizable by their group huddling, their poor fashion sense, and the horrible haircuts. They are a dour and nasty group. Often arrogant, always scowling and unpleasant to be seated next to in restaurants. Their children run wild.
