Trump Campaign Accuses Kamala Harris of Campaign Finance Violations
Patong2021 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I don't know how long you have practiced law in the state of New York, but that is not exactly what the people who have practiced law in New York advise. Trump is a convicted felon. To argue otherwise is to say that there was no court ruling and no appeal of the conviction. Trump has appealed the decision. The penalties that will apply for the crime(s) will not be applied until the final adjudication. However, the felony conviction exists. All the other claims you make are irrelevant. The man was tried using evidence and testimony from his own employees and lackies. the jury convicted based upon the weight of evidence. The trial was in New York because that is where the crimes occurred. If you are unhappy with the format of the trial, revise the US Constitution. -
Ok, but that is not the case here. The deceased was not driving a motorbike. She was stopped on the side of the road, when she was hit; She had stopped by the roadside to answer a phone call from her mother when Wihok, driving at high speed, lost control on a curve and struck A, throwing her into the nearby drinks shop. Even if the girl had been on the motorbike, and was otherwise acting responsibly, the automobile driver would retain legal liability if he was driving at high speed and had lost control. The unlawful activity of another does not automatically excuse or diminish the the wrongful act of another. As for the helmet, when a pedestrian is hit by a motor vehicle do you raise the issue of the pedestrian not wearing a quality helmet? If the deceased was not on a motorbike and not in a moving traffic lane, then the deceased, for the purposes of determining legal liability for the injury, was a pedestrian. There is no need to over think this. If the facts of the case are correct as stated, the automobile driver is 100% liable and will be guilty of vehicular manslaughter. ot driving, not in a vehicle travel lane and not

These STIs are not the treatable diseases of your youth. These are antibiotic resistant super strains and present a serious threat to public health. Taking antibiotics destroys the natural flora of the stomach and puts the user at a higher risk for other diseases, so the uptick in the number of infections should not be laughed off If you look at the Syphilis epidemic that has been ongoing since the 1990's in Germany, you will see another reason why the Thai infections should be a concern: They closely associated with those who are infected with HIV.

American Arrested for Stabbing Australian to Death in Thailand
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Krabi News
C'mon. My friend is a fishing fanatic. He has a folding filet and deboning gizmo that he carries in his bag all the time. I have a a mountaineer utility pocket device in my side back that has a blade long and sharp enough to slice open a throat. It also has a corkscrew that can crack a head, multipurpose hook that Denzel Washington used to kill someone with in the Equalizer, and metal saw that can sever a finger. It also has a saw blade, a corkscrew. This doesn't make me a coward, just someone who can McGyver my way out of a lot of common incidents. -

You have no idea as to what the dispute was about. For all you know, the deceased could have attacked the accused. Why not wait for the facts of the event to be established? -
Thai Govt Disputes Claims of Deserted Tourist Spots
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
If you have not been in Hua Hin or Cha Am during the year, you might get the impression that on some days the beaches are empty. They are not. Because the beaches are so long, they can handle large amounts of people without crowding. Cha Am skews to an older foreign demographic. The condo towers are chock full of them. They are not beach sitters and learnt a long time ago that sitting in the sun all day gives you skin cancer and makes you into a wrinkled chunk of shoe leather. Hua Hin is busy. Go out at night and the fish restaurant strip is busy, even in low season. It's a golf town and the golf courses are filled with UK, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese golfers. There are sections of the beach where the windsurfers are like an infestation of gnats. What has changed is that short term visitors are not spending time in the malls and going to the low value tourist sites like they used to. There is no need. They are out walking, cycling, doing day trips outside of the town. People are far more active than ever before. -
Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This issue has been explained multiple times ever since this forum was called Thai Visa. Yes, it is true that your rich Thai friends are allowed to buy land and houses in the USA. There are literally city blocks available in Detroit, Texas City, Cleveland, Flint, etc. where they would be greeted with joy and delight. The locations come with their own population of "special" people who can provide hours of entertainment as they drop in unexpectedly and share their love of crack, yaba, syringes, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Ripple and guns. However, even wealthy Thais find that quality locations in places like Palm Springs, Miami, New York City etc. can cost in excess of 50 million baht. That is quite a contrast from the sub 5 million baht affordability of Thailand. Not many Thais can afford to purchase in the USA and those who do are as you say, are wealthy. The western foreigners who purchase in Thailand are not particularly wealthy, and most if not all have less than US $1 million in liquidity. Thailand is the last place a wealthy law abiding US citizen would choose and the reasons have been explained multiple times over the years. The Thai visa and landownership restrictions are needed to ensure that Thais are not priced out of the market and do not see their country purchased by foreigners. Ask Canadians how a free for all on visas and foreign ownership has worked out. 3 million temporary citizens have crowded out Canadians from affordable housing and from their medical care system. Ask the UK and the EU how they like being over run by foreigners who have transformed some communities into foreign enclaves and forced other ethnic/religious groups out. -

Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)
Patong2021 replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
The war can end immediately as soon as Hamas agrees to a ceasefire, stops firing rockets from the civilian locations, and releases the remaining hostages. It's quite simple. -
There is no point in raising this subject. The people who need to consider it, are not interested and don't want to consider the issue. All that this does is to bring out the die hard supporters who will be very vocal and even more unhinged. The people who will have a concern, have already made up their minds on who they will vote for in November. Pushing the issue serves no positive purpose. And, many of the people claiming Trump is mentally unbalanced, are not particularly well balanced themselves. It's like the fat people and couch potatoes who ridicule Biden's mobility disability because of his arthritis and plantar fascitis.

Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's worth a bump on this. You are the only one who understood this. (Non immigrant long stay visa can also qualify some people as expats for the purposes of placing lower cost expat health insurance vs. travel health insurance.) In even simpler language, the revised visa rules addresses the biggest tourist complaint amongst the high end and older demographic who just want to visit Thailand for 2-3 months at the most per visit without the hassle of applying for a visa. -

Thai Airways Among World's Top Ten Airlines in 2024
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I comment as a Star Alliance Gold passenger and Skyteam member.; Thai is ok. Same quality as Air Canada, Air France, KLM, Swiss, Asiana. I use on domestic and flights to Hong Kong and Japan. ANA, Singapore and Eva are better and I use them for international flights. Thai is the only full service airline that services Thailand domestic routes, providing enhanced checkin, baggage and lounge service. Bangkok Airways doesn't come close now. Yup. try BA, AA, UL, LH and TG comes off as wonderful. At least Thai people are nicer. -

BMX and off road mountain bikers will wear full head protection. Come off a steep incline and hit rocks on the way down and you pay the price. Insurance as in health travel coverage. In the old days, skateboarders never wore protective gear, now, most of the pros have high tech head gear and padding. Times have changed -
BUYER BEWARE - questionable medical care
Patong2021 replied to The Snark's topic in Health and Medicine
Always easy to criticize, without understanding context. Not mentioned is if there were existing test results that the urologist reviewed, or if a physical exam was performed, or if there were pre-existing conditions or past illnesses. Some specialists requests tests based upon their experience, or wish to have more comprehensive tests before going further. Ok, some other physicians had a different opinion. It happens. Did you provide the same narrative to them as you did with the urologist? Are these other physicians urologists too? Not saying that the physician may be too conservative, but there is a reason why some tests will be requested by experienced specialists. If in doubt, ask. You are allowed to ask why a test is recommended. -
My Blood Pressure Numbers are always Normal - I'm Confused .
Patong2021 replied to Bill Poster's topic in Health and Medicine
One of the biggest problems with home BP testing is that the collars are not fitted properly. A person with a big arm may need a larger collar. A collar too small will result in a higher BP. A small arm with a collar not tight enough can result in an inaccurate reading too. -
Health Insurance Refused Because I Take Statins.
Patong2021 replied to Jumbo1968's topic in Health and Medicine
Many of the comments are written from a biased perspective and incorrect assumptions. An insurance policy is a risk transfer contract. You, the insured are asking a third party to assume the financial liability for expenses arising from circumstances or events as set out in the contract. The intent is to transfer the sudden and accidental losses of a few amongst the many. The third party accepting the risk sets a cost for that assumption of the risk. It includes the medical costs associated with the covered events, claims management, selling and administration expenses. Loss ratios for Asian health insurers typically range from 80-85%. That does not leave the excessive profits some of the comments claim. It also means that contrary to the comments made, the insurers are paying claims. Why is there an expectation that the insurer should take on a high risk at a cost that does not cover that assumed risk? If you believe that your risk is so low, keep the risk. Don’t expect another party to subsidize your healthcare. The core clauses of a health insurance policy are similar. Where they differ is on the extensions, the deductibles, and treatment of pre-existing conditions. The actuarial tables used by insurers are similar and they know which age groups are likely to experience health crises, and which health conditions will result in expensive medical costs. Some insurers invest more in their actuarial analysis. If an insurer is excluding cardiac and circulatory events for some people it is because the actuarial results show that the X% of people who have certain characteristics will incur X amount of losses. Some insurers will provide coverage if there is a stability of the condition, i.e. 6 or 12 months. Read the policy wording. It is your obligation to read the contract and to know what you are agreeing to. If you don't read the contract and then have a problem because you claim you did not know, that's your responsibility. If you are hit by a car or fall down and suffer a critical brain injury or if have food poisoning and subsequent kidney damage, there would be coverage. If you develop colon cancer or an eye disease, or have parasites all needing treatment, you would have coverage. You have a serious health condition related to your lipid levels and cannot expect an insurer to cover that existing medical problem. However there are 1001+ other ailments that you can have that benefit from having the coverage. A questionnaire forms part of the insurance policy. The questionnaire might be completed on the phone for the purposes of an estimate, but you would still be required to complete a more detailed form, sign and submit that form. Coverage would only be granted upon acceptance of the complete underwriting questionnaire. That is not how claims are managed. When there are contestable claims, a reservation of rights letter is first issued, stating where coverage is available and what is payable. If there is a basis for denying all or part of a claim, the relevant sections are cited. Insurers have their own in house legal counsels and paralegals who draft these letters. The burden of proof is on the insurer to show why a claim is not payable. If an insurer cites sections of a policy that excludes coverage, an claimant just responds with an explanation or with documentation countering that position. An insurer has an obligation to protect the best interests of its shareholders and other policy holders by responsibly managing claims. Read the sections that apply for pre-existing conditions, and for conditions deemed stable. If you have doubts, ask the specific question in writing and request a written response. The broker is not the claim adjuster and does not control the grant of coverage. Only the insurer has that power. When in doubt, as for an opinion from the insurer claims manager. -
30 Cars Stolen in UK Traced to Thailand, Returned to Owners
Patong2021 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's a first, and I mean that in a positive way. Typically, these vehicles are transited through to Dubai, Beirut and various African ports never to be recovered. Western countries with lax judicial and police response to vehicle theft are targeted by organized crime gangs, many of whom are linked to international terrorism. -
The use of the term "genocide" in respect to the war between Russia and Ukraine demonstrates a bias. There is no genocide. It is an illegal invasion intended to annex land, not kill off the Ukraine population. It is a targeted campaign of violent discrimination. Unfortunately, the discrimination goes both ways as Ukraine did persecute its Russian ethnic minority prior to the war and Russia funded and armed ethnic Russian militias intent on separating from Ukraine. This is one of the reasons why Thailand and others prefer to stay out of the dispute. Also, Thailand is able to cash in on Russian tourism. Thailand does not apply morality in these types of disputes. You need only look at the profiteering that occurred during Pol Pot's reign of terror in Cambodia. Thais purchased endangered animals, lumber, gems and people. The country provided a safe haven for many Khmer Rouge murderers. NATO did not force anyone to join. On the contrary, countries asked to join. Sweden and Finland were pushed by Russia's aggression and threats to join NATO. Thailand is playing both sides and at some point, when Thailand is not offered preferred trade status in new trade agreements, it will know why. There is a time and a place and Thailand's day of reckoning will come. It's just that the world has bigger issues to address than Thailand's dance of "neutrality".

Not true. Many Asian airlines will provide special discounts or access to a seat inventory not available from an OTA or the airline itself. Examples of this are; EVA, and mainland and Chinese airlines. The arrangements reflect the agency's preferred status die to sales volume or activity as a local hub and the usual "special arrangements" that are a characteristic of Asian airlines.
