    Here are the updated requirements for vaccination to enter the UK (England);

Travel from the rest of the world if you are fully vaccinated

From 4am Monday 4 October, if you have been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days:

    • under an approved vaccination program in the UK, Europe, US or UK vaccine programme overseas
    • with a full course of the Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen vaccines from a relevant public health body in Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, Dominica, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea or Taiwan – mixing between two-dose vaccines (Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna) in this list is also recognised
    • under a formally approved COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial in the US, Canada and Australia and have a proof of participation (digital or paper-based) from a public health body

    You must:

    • book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test – to be taken after arrival in England
    • complete your passenger locator form – any time in the 48 hours before you arrive in England
    • take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 after you arrive in England

    You do not need to:

    • take a pre-departure test
    • take a day 8 COVID-19 test
    • quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days after you arrive in England

You must be able to prove that you have been fully vaccinated (plus 14 days) with a document (digital or paper-based) from a national or state-level public health body that includes, as a minimum:

    • forename and surname(s)
    • date of birth
    • vaccine brand and manufacturer
    • date of vaccination for every dose
    • country or territory of vaccination and/or certificate issuer

If your document from a public health body does not include all of these, you must follow the non-vaccinated rules. If not, you may be denied boarding.

If you are fully vaccinated in the US, will also need to prove that you are a resident of the US.

If you are fully vaccinated, but do not qualify under these fully vaccinated rules, you must follow the non-vaccinated rules.

This instruction applies only to countries on the Green List.   8 Countries have been moved to the Green List but Thailand is not one of them and remains on the Red List and consequently requires a stay of 11 nights in a quarntine hotel in the UK at a cost of 2250 pounds forone person plus two tests.

I assume I don't, because I searched for it on the NHS app and it didn't recognise me. I have become a non-person as far as the NHS is concerned, just one of the ways you become a second-class citizen if you decide to live abroad.

By the way, I'm just curious, what does "et nomina patrus" signify?

In nomine Patris et fillii et Spiritus Sancti" is Latin for "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost/Spirit"... to which one would reply "Amen.

  3. Thailand is to remain on the UK Red List of countries.   Currently, should you wish to visit the UK from a Red Listed country, a mandatory 11 night stay in a hotel, at a cost of 2,250 pounds, will be necessary, plus two tests, one on the second day and one on the eigtht day.  It was hoped that Thailand would be removed from the Red List at the review notified on 17 September, but that has not happened.

i understand that that the UK review team do not consider Thailand is dealing with the Covid - 19 vaccination programme or its response to testing and indentifying possible new variants, in a manner appropriate to dealing with the virus. in a manner which would warrant removal from the Red List.

If my understanding is correct, then I foresee Thailand remaining of the UK Red List for sometime.

No news from the new British Ambassador yet, this same question was put to him just yesterday:

One of the main vaccines in Thailand is AstraZeneca. Although this has links to a British company, it is believed that the locally produced version is not recognized by the UK government. Is this true and will that situation change in the future?

The UK is taking a phased approach to opening up travel. For now, only those vaccinated in the UK, US and EU have their vaccines recognized for the purposes of being exempt from self isolation when arriving from an amber list country. We appreciate that this is frustrating and recognise that this needs to be expanded to include travellers from other locations. Work is under way in the UK to do this (including on the key issue of vaccine certification, on which there is no global standard), and I hope that things will move forward soon.

Thank you for the above.  Nice to know there are mature and sensible people on this forum unlike some!

Thankyou for the suggestion but not necessay now.   Bangkok Hospital Khon Kaen having received my email declining, called me and said they would arrange an appointment to have AZ.   10/10 for their proactive help.

    2 points for you:

    1) Vaccines are there to stop you from getting ill and dying, not to facilitate travel

    2) It doesn’t matter what vaccine you take in Thailand, the UK doesn’t recognize any vaccine administered outside UK, EU and US, no matter what brand it is

anything else you need clearing up?

There has been some uncertainty regarding whether the British government would officially recognise the Astrazeneca vaccine made in Thailand.

The UK Vaccine Minister  - Mr Nadhim Zahawi recently signalled that the UK would accept all versions of Astrazeneca.   He told a House of Commons debate that UK Nationals who have been vaccinated oveseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had, and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated.   GPs will have to vet people as to whether the vaccine they had received overseas was approved for use in the UK,

He also hinted that those who are not registered with a GP in the UK,  that all travellers from abroad who had received vaccines authorised for use in the UK, would also have their vaccines recognised as proof of immunity and would not be required to self quarantine.

So in answer to your question - No, I don't need anything else cleared up!!

  8. I am toying with the idea of renting an apartment in Khon Kaen City and would appreciate recommendations regarding studio condios.   I already have  house 46kms outside KK but wantto  have the opportunity to getback to civilisation each month,   A  studio condo would be suffficent but it would need to be near to places to eat and have transport links to Central Plaza.

Also advice as to where expats in KK meet up for a chat.

Look forward to receiving sensible replies.  Thanks.

Sad because I am waiting for local flights in Thailand to be resumed , so that I can fly back to the U.K and that is due to happened next week and I really dont want to spend over  2 grand on a quarantine hotel in the UK , especially as I have an empty house waiting

We are both in agreement then that it would be 'sad' if amber becomes red.  All I was doing was highlighting the possibility, as the orignal poster was obviously unaware of the scenario.  Always good to be aware of obstacles, don't you agree?

The last review was three weeks ago when Thailand had 18 000 new cases per day , that figure went up to 22 000 per day in following week , but since then the figure has gone back down to 18 000 .

Hopefully because the infection rates are on the decrease, Thailand will remain amber

Why sad?  I said possibility and that's a fact.   Decision is based on more than numbers i.e numbers fully vaccinated and how fast is particular country vaccinating its population.  notwithstanding this, I also do not want Thailand to go Red as I plan to go to the Uk shortly.

  11. 16 minutes ago, Mac Mickmanus said:

There is no need to have proof of vaccination when going to the U.K .

You will need to take a PCR test three days before departure and you will need to purchase home tests (from the UK) before departure and also to spend ten days in self quarantine , so you will need a credit/debit card or find a way to buy the UK home tests

One caveat you missed.   Maybe today orcertainly tomorrow (26Aug) UK will publish its revised Traffic Light system (i.e Green,Amber amd Red countries for possible quarantine) and there is a possibility that Thailand could move from amber to red.   If that happens travellers into UK will have to undergo quarantine in a hotel at a cost of 2250pounds.    Let's hope that doesn't happen.

What do you consider a reasonable travelling distance?

It is a real question and not a wind up.

I am 77 and 116kg and have been taking blood pressure tablets since I had 2 stents fitted in 2006.

My wife will drive me. She is 55 and had her first jab (Sinovac) 12 days ago.

Why do you have to question my understanding and empathy for @Chris B.  Not all on this site enjoy 'winding up' people as you put it.  It is most certainly is not one of my characteristics,  Nothing more to say to you.  Goodbye.
