Passport renewal enquiry
prakhonchai nick replied to Binger's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Apart from the wait for a new passport, which last year was around 12 weeks, but reduced to 6 weeks earlier this year, and may be back to 12 weeks or more now, be aware of the need to renew your permission to stay in Thailand. You can have 1 year but if there is less than 1 year validity on your current passport, then Immigration will only extend to passport expiry date.. -
@IvorBiggun posted this earlier this year Probation in Thailand is used when the jails are full and is used for minor crimes/criminals. Instead of locking people up they are allowed to remain free but have to report regularly to their nearest police station. So drunk driving is just a minor crime. AMAZING THAILAND!!!!!!!!

The cost of probate depends on where you appoint a lawyer from. My local lawyer who has assisted 3 widows charges around 30,000baht. A lawyer some 50kms away charged 60,000 baht to obtain a little over 100,000baht from a bank. No doubt a Bangkok lawyer would charge more. Wives and partners must be told over and over that when you die, they must not rush to the bank to advise your death, but withdraw he money with an ATM card, slowly, possible make a transfer to another account with an ATM, but not with a huge amount. Beware of causing suspicion with the bank. They can also do online banking - if they fully understand the process, which many do not. Even then they must first access the computer, and many are locked with wives/partners being unaware of the opening password.

SUCCESS Yesterday I met with the bank manager and explained the problem to him, and the fact that the widow had provided all that had been asked for, incuding locally notarised documents. He was concerned that the matter had not been settled promptly and promised to look into it urgently. This morning the widow was summoned to the bank, the account was closed, and she was given the account balance plus accrued interest. Now to deal with the UK pension provider and ensure future pension payments are made to her new sole account.

All duly noted The widow was assisted by her UK based son-in law, who clearly did not advise the Thai bank, nor instruct her to do so. She will now have to comply with whatever the bank want. However, when provided with the original UK death certificate and Thai translation, they supposedly just told her both documents needed to be notarised by a Thai notary. If that was incorrect advice, then the bank will be liable for her unwarranted costs in having the documents notarised.

Helping a widow whose husband died many years ago. They had a joint savings account, and her widows pension was paid into that account. For several years she access her money via ATM card until that expired and since has been withdrawing money from the bank branch (Bank designated with a letter) Now the book is full, bank will not issue a new book until they have a death certificate, and meanwhile despite being a joint account, she cannot withdraw any money UK death certificate with notarised translation has been provided, but they now say after 4 days, that they need to make enquiries in the UK...........<deleted>!!!!!!!! Surely what they are doing is totally wrong. There is no reason why the widow cannot access money in a joint account, especially as everything she was asked for has been provided. Bank will not discuss!!!!!!!!

Most Isaan villagers expect to receive at least 500bt to vote for a specific candidate, and will likely receive more, as more than one candidate invariably hands over money. Surely if it was announced that the first 10 villagers in every village, who could provide specific proof of vote buying, would receive a nice little reward, those buying would be prosecuted, barred from standing, and the elections could then go ahead in a free and fair way
