Scottish man becomes latest victim of Thailand’s perilous roads
prakhonchai nick replied to snoop1130's topic in Krabi News
Was parked up near my local bus station at 4pm yesterday, waiting for my son. Nearby High School turned out. The road was awash with motorbikes with 2,3 and even 4 youngsters aboard going home. Masks aplenty, but not one helmet to be seen!!!!!!!!!!!!! If 16/17 year old kids cannot obey the rules, what hope is there for the future. -
When I applied for Permanent residency, albeit 30+ years ago, I needed a report from the UK stating I had no criminal record. This could apparently be applied for through the British Embassy. When I visited the embassy and explained what I wanted, I was asked "Do you have a criminal record in the UK?". My answer, being NO, was totally sufficient for the embassy to issue a document for Thai immigration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can tell her what you want 1 million times, but she will do just whatever she and her family want!. Worry later about how she is going to repay the loans she took to pay for it all.

Families generally splash out more for a farang funeral than for a Thai funeral, despite, in most cases, the deceased farang wanting nothing more that a simple cremation. What I have always failed to understand is why is there the necessity to feed the local villagers morning noon and night for the days leading up to the funeral and the day after. Yes, maybe they drop 100bt in an envelope, but in most cases it does not cover the cost of the unnecessary food, which the majority collect in bags and take away 3 times a day. If only I could find a way to prevent all this nonsense when my time comes.

My Thai registered post to the UK, never gets recorded beyond the airline office at Suvarnabhumi. As for EMS its a pricey scam and takes ages. I receive many EMS letters from Bangkok and they always take 3/4 days to arrive in Isaan (late PM at that!)
-
Aah! But is it? I am far from convinced that the British Embassy, who are made aware of a death, do pass on the info to the DWP. Many a widow I have assisted out here in Isaan has some 6 months down the line had a request for pension repayment!

I used to take Omeprazole daily (and it seemed to work) but my heart specialist said no more and put me on Prevacid. Expensive, but half a tablet every 3 days works well

Pita Confident More Senators Are Now Backing Him For PM
prakhonchai nick replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Perhaps the senators should read and re-read todays news regarding France. A renegade policeman kills a kid, and seemingly the whole country erupts violently for 4 nights to date. What if Pita is denied the premiership. Will the Thai people demonstrate in the same way as the French? Only the Senators to blame! -
Using old passport
prakhonchai nick replied to Daithi85's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
VFS, on behalf of the British Passport Office require the old passport to be brought in to enable the new one to be released and the old one cancelled. However, accidents do happen, and in 2 cases I am aware of, the new passport was delivered direct to the client by DHL courier instead of VFS, so the client still had his old and new passports. -
I'm sure the idiots do. No concern for the older generation who have difficulty using their phones for anything other than phone calls......................and what about the millions who do not have a smart phone and hence no app. Perhaps a few more will join me and withdraw most of their money or close their accounts in protest????

Krungthai 0% Savings account!
prakhonchai nick replied to stubuzz's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
On the subject of tax deducted on interest payments (current now), how does one go about obtaining a refund? I noticed that for similar amounts deposited in Kasikorn and Bangkok banks during the past 6 months I received nearly twice as much interest from Bangkok Bank
