I have had PR for over 33 years, and due to many visits to neighbouring Cambodia, when on each occasion my PR book was stamped in and out it became full some years ago and required replacement. Not something that could be done locally, but needed a visit to Immi HQ in Bangkok. I was told it would take 4 days, and to return thereafter. No consideration of the fact I lived hundreds of kms from Bangkok. Upon return, my PR book was taken from the drawer it had earlier been deposited in, and clearly remained since my earlier visit. The next hour was then utilised in preparing my new book.! Immi Officer clearly not happy I paid the exact fee with no tip! Do not overlook the need with PR that an Alien reg Book is also needed, provided by local police and renewable at maximum 5 year intervals

Use a good lawyer for sure. One that well understands English as well as Thai My plot of land in Jomtien, Pattaya 36 years ago was bought in my Father -in -Law's name as at that time Thai's married to foreigners were not permitted to own land. For security I was advised to indicate that I had given FiL a loan to buy the house and a mortgage was duly recorded on the chanote with my name (7 chanotes in fact!!!) When we came to sell, the mortgage was officially redeemed permitting FiL to sell the house in his name

5.10am and a Thai men drinking in a convenience store. Shop owner, Ms. Euaamporn Rattanamethakoson has a lot to answer for, Surely alcohol sales cease at 12 midnight! If she hadn't sold alcohol the incident would not have happened. Throw the book at her and take away her alcohol licence! -

What are the chances that come next May, when the Senators right to vote for a PM ceases, PM Srettha resigns, allowing Thaksin to enter the fray and be voted in as new PM? That of course assumes he is first freed/pardoned for his perceived sins -
UK State marriage pension
prakhonchai nick replied to Kevin1908's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Someone need my assistance? A Thai wife who at some time lived and worked in the UK and has a minimum of 10 NI contributions will likely be entitled to a UK state pension at the appropriate age Thai wives of British expats here in Thailand, who have never worked in the UK are entitled to nothing. The husbands state pension ceases upon his death, and nothing further is provided by the DWP either for wives./widows or children. At worst the DWP will likely as not, some months after death, request any pension overpayment to be returned from the estate. Relocate to the Phillipines and you may be in luck! -
Thai wife wants to buy land
prakhonchai nick replied to jayceenik's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
35 years ago, a Thai wife married to a foreigner could not buy land in her name, and once married to a foreigner had to dispose of any land that she owned prior to marriage. That law changed at some later time. The land that was bought where our house was built. was bought in her Father's name, and I was advised to act as mortgagor, details of which were written onto the title deeds (chanotes). When things went tits up some years later, she could not sell as it was not her land, and father could not sell without relinquishing the mortgage!???? -

Scottish man becomes latest victim of Thailand’s perilous roads

If Thais cannot afford 5,000bt -or even 10,000baht fines, then they should think twice about putting themselves in the position where they will be fined!. Cannot pay. then lose the vehicle Card players in the villages who get caught and cannot pay the fine are imprisoned instead. I believe it is 1 night in prison for every 500bt not paid. Treat motorists the same way! -

Poorly run school allowing kids to enter and leave on motorbikes without helmets, and most probably without licences and insurance! And not a policeman to be seen! But that is never a surprise!
