  1. Normally the bank freezes the account when they have been advised of the death. No hurry for anyone to advise the bank -in fact probably not even necessary. Most widows (with the permission of their late husband before his death) will have access to his ATM cards and PIN numbers and will (illegally) drain most accounts. Fixed deposit accounts do not have ATM cards, nor can they be operated online!
  2. It is not the court fee that is the problem, but the Lawyer Fee. I have been involved in a couple of probates using a Lawyer from a neighbouring province who charged 30,000baht to obtain probate and extract the money (incluing his expenses) Another called in by the widow in the same province wanted 60,000baht to get probate for a bank account of just 110,000baht!!!!! Pays to shop around.
  3. I would not consider piercing the lips of 36 very young children to be corporal punishment . This was sadistic cruelty.
  4. If some 70 parents fail to do something about this extreme cruelty, then it just shows what a sick society Thailand really is, and how inadequate so many Thais really are!
  5. The parents of the 36 children should group together and pay the 2 sacked teachers a "visit" in their homes!
  6. If I were one of the parents I would personally press charges if the Police failed to do so. Wouldn't be first time!
  7. My gripe with the local Lotus's after Tesco moved away is the poor service. regularly only 1 or 2 check outs open , with queues of up to 10 people. I have complained to both customer service and by email, but it does not get better. More staff clearly needed!"
  8. Am currently assisting a widow, whose husband died recently from cancer. Prior to death he received expensive treatment which he paid for by raiding his visa extension fund and he appeared better. However a few weeks later he was again hospitalised and after a few days he died. There was no money left to pay the hospital. The hospital have demanded payment by the widow, but since her husband died penniless, with no estate, I have told her that his debt is not her liablity. She does not want to argue with the hospital, and will try and repay over the coming months from her small pension. Her choice, but I think she is wrong.
  9. May well be quicker, if those paying using QR code know how to do it. In my experience many do not and have to enlist the cashiers help...........once having found their phone and turned it on!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Even worse, had it happen twice in Makro , customer in front - almost finished checking out, bill 3,000THB+, fishes out bags full of 5 and 10bahts!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. In a somewhat similar vein, recently in Lotus's, I queued behind a woman with a trolley full of sugar. Must have been 100bags+ I thought "this will be quick" But not. She wanted 10 bags to be checked out separately and repeatedly, and paid on her phone by QR code, which she did not understand and needed cashier help. I gave up, but not before voicing my disgust very loudly -in Thai - for all around to hear!
  12. A fixed deposit account may pay a little bit more interest, but with no debit card and no online withdrawals. you could run into trouble if you were ill or hospitalised and unable to visit a bank and withdraw money!
  13. Happens regularly to me in Makro, when buying meat and loading it on the conveyor to be weighed and priced. The conveyor belt is often full, and Thais walk up, and place their meat on the belt on top of others meat at the front. I generally pick it up and move it to the back with a few softly spoken choice words. Invariably they say nothing, but glare at me!
  14. Is there a law restricting the number that can be carried? Can yu quote it please. As far as I am aware it is all just hot air!
  15. Saw a similar number of kids in the bed of a pick up a week or so on Childrens day. Not sitting, but standing...............and they overtook me at 90+ in the outside lane of a dual carriageway!!!
  16. Assault using a deadly weapon, by anyone, regardless of age, requires the ultmate penalty.
  17. If they were Thai, and not Chinese, would they each have received 50 years???
  18. Not read the whole topic, but the OP enquired whether his PARTNER, could access the money. Simple answer NO, unless there was a Will naming her.. Upon death a partner is not entitled to any assets of the deceased, though she may be entitled to a monthly pension from an employer of the deceased A wife is however entitled in Thailand under the intestacy rules (if no Will) but at best she will only receive 50%
  19. Not if nobody tells them. Just drain the account leaving 100bt in. Not enough to pay for the annual ATM card, and as such the account will automatically be cancelled.
  20. Why 25 years jail? He cold bloodedly stabbed the driver to death. He should die too!
  21. A bit more accuracy and attention to detail would not go amiss
