  1. Still, it's nice of them to "court" instead of lure. It always alarmed me a little when I read about their bright ideas to lure more of us. It's much nicer to be courted.
  2. Indeed. Mine is due 31 July each year, I renew it in the first week of July.
  3. Yes, agree I've read about this. No point wasting a RAT the 1st day of feeling off. In my own case if I came down with cold/flu like symptoms I'd wait to 3rd day to test.
  4. I bought 2 X RATs which I keep at home just in case I or tirak come down with Omi. We're both fully vaxed and both very healthy. We've already discussed it together and if we catch Omi we're not telling a soul and will just self isolate until it passes (3-5 days seems the average) We have plenty of food, water, meds at home. We have separate rooms if only one of us gets it, but that would seem unlikely as we're together all the time. Of course if one of us took a bad turn and needed medical care then we'll handle that is it arises, but all the people I know who have caught Omi were fighting fit a week later. Interesting that prior to the Omi variant I did not know one person anywhere in the world who had contracted covid-19. Now all of a sudden I have dozens of close friends in Thailand, UK, Australia who have caught the virus, people of varying ages and varying degrees of health and fitness, and they all report that they had mild cold/flu like symptoms that lasted for 3 days.
  5. Well there is no legal same sex marriage in Thailand, so terms like fiancé/husband/wife are not necessary. I would continue referring to the niece's partner as her partner. When speaking directly to the partner I would use her name. If the partner's name is Lek, Daeng or Jit, then just call her that name. It's not expected for foreigners to get into all the complicated pee/nong/ah/nah/paw/mair/yai/boo prefixes.
  6. Like Whale I also had 2 X AZ at MedPark. My 2nd shot was at end of Oct 21, so I guess I'll be due for the booster around end Feb/early March. So I'll be interested in what you find out Whale. Please keep us posted here.
  7. Well he hasn't been deported yet. When news of the unvaccinated Novak Djokovic been allowed to play in Australia first broke there was a massive backlash from the Australian public. And there's a federal election coming soon. So the crafty PM has seized upon this and twisted it around in his favor. Novak's legal team are currently working on their appeal. My gut feeling is Novak will be granted the visa to remain, and Scotty Boy has made a noble stand and proven to the Australian public that there are no special rules for the rich and famous. That'll be a win-win resolution. However, if Novak does get deported that won't surprise me either and Scotty will come out smelling of roses for his government taking a tough stance in protecting Australia's borders.
  8. I'm in KK now. We were able to have beer with our meal on NYE but staff told us no longer permitted from Jan 1st. I bought some cans beer from the 7-11 last night (Jan 2nd), but none of the restaurants that I could see were serving beer (most were shut anyway.)
  9. I seriously doubt your condo management will be cool with this. In all likelihood they'll report you and you'll be forced into 14 days Q at an expense. If me I'd just sweat it out at home and tell nobody. Can't your GF call some friends and have them buy a bunch of packs of mama and some bread and whatever and leave it outside your door? That's what I would do. All the best and let us know how it goes.
  10. Can't really understand the point of your post. You ask the question "Do Afro American men get treated with respect as teachers in Thailand?" Then tell us how racist the Thai system is and there's no respect for a black man. Well, you already know far better than anyone here, so why ask the question in the first place?
  11. The great majority of those New Year hotel bookings are Thais from BKK who want to get to the beaches and the seafood restaurants. Nothing to do with foreign tourists and covid variants.
  12. yes, I was in Khon Kaen last month and pretty well every Thai that I talk to about covid vax have had their 3rd boosters, and I was talking with hotel and restaurant staff not politicians.
  13. Being Thai she probably just waltzes straight through.
  14. Good point. Having a 1 TB drive die and losing 1 TB of backup is better than having a 8 TB die and kissing 8 TBs bye bye.
  15. While on this topic another question for ya all: I'll be copying files over from one ext HDD to another ext HDD via a Win 10 laptop. Say for example I have files on a 500GB drive that I want to copy to a new 4TB drive, can I make a system image using Win 10 and clone the drive contents over to the new drive? If not what is the fastest way to copy over from one drive to the other?
  16. Thanks BritManToo, this seems ideal. I've already got several smaller HDDs that have my backups, but I want another large one to make a second backup just in case. One of these 4TB will do me for now, and if/when I fill I can order another.
  17. Can you recommend one that's a good buy at the moment, perhaps on Lazada or Shopee, or at any stores throughout Thailand? A decent quality 3.5'' hdd connected via USB around 4,5,6,7,8 TBs, that will serve me well as a 2nd backup device for my MP3 collection?
  18. Wasn't so long ago we backed up to 1.44 MB floppy disks, now we're filling 8 TB drives....LOL
  19. I'm looking for something this size to back up my MP3 music collection, which is spread over a dozen various size HDDs. 8TB would probably do me but there wouldn't be much space left. And I'm backing up MP3s, most of my fellow music collectors have moved up to FLAC files....jeez, they'd be filling an 8TB drive every year. ????
  20. Something for all the potential "quality tourists" to look forward to.
  21. I'm with SCB I do regular transfers from my CBA bank in Australia via OFX every few months for amounts of over 200,000 THB. Last one was about 2 months ago, so I certainly hope I don't hit any snags next time I need to do a transfer, sometime in Jan 2022.
