The situation usually gets changed very fast once the politician is elected. The Minsk treaties had been painstakingly organized to calm down all sides and to stop the atrocities in the east of the country. What was the real purpose of the agreements for some has not been any secrecy as known from Petro Poroschenko long time ago, recently confirmed by Angela Merkel.

It's surely a tiring job answering for more than 4 hours the questions from any side and parties - and not only once a year - and not the ones (the questions) issued in advance.
