140 baht. OUCH. Plus I like 'em with a little yogurt. Though I've eaten the tika before, this trip to Bangkok I ate the 7-11 Japanese curry rice with soft egg this trip. One with a 7-11 salad is enough for me.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records

Well let me do some checking and see how the Secret Service handled it the previous time an ex-President had to do felony jail time. -

Because if there ever was a conviction with prison time, the Secret Service would be in charge. I never suggested the Secret Service would have any impact on the outcome. -

Any ex-President is guaranteed Secret Service protection fore life. -

Really the next big event here -- well before any, if any, jury trial -- is 08AUG23 when the Trump defense gets to submit motions including almost certainly a motion to have the whole case thrown out. -

So in their 08AUG23 motions, the attorneys for DJT can make their case that the entire indictment should be tossed. -
We Finally Know the Case Against Trump, and It Is Strong
jerrymahoney replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
As noted on a parallel topic, the Trump defense will have until AUG 08 to submit their motions -- one of which, according to the legal buzz, will be a motion for summary dismissal of all charges. Prosecution will have until SEP19 to respond; the Judge will rule 04 DEC. -
Three takeaways from Trump's day in court
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
MY takeaways from the NY Court action: Motions Merchan set an Aug. 8 deadline for Trump to file motions, and prosecutors have until Sept. 19 to respond. He intends to issue decisions on the motions by Dec. 4, which is when the two parties, including Trump, will next meet in court. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-case-new-york-charges-indictment-what-comes-next/ -
From the Wikipedia link above: Trump has, however, been involved in far more litigation than fellow real-estate magnates; the USA Today analysis in 2016 found that Trump had been involved in more legal disputes than Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., Donald Bren, Stephen M. Ross, Sam Zell, and Larry Silverstein combined.

Some here may be leftists; some may be conservatives. In the matter in the NY District court, I am a former New Yorker who lived in mid-town Manhattan in the 1970's when Donald Trump from Queens became "The Don". As an indication as to how some New Yorkers currently feel about the ex-President, I will just post this: According to a 2016 USA Today analysis, Donald Trump and his businesses were involved in 3,500 legal cases in U.S. federal and state courts during the previous three decades ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_affairs_of_Donald_Trump

OK. The last bunch of times I went to Bangkok, I took the AirportLink from the airport and only took a taxi mid-day to the airport. So I don't, as I prefer, have to deal at all with a taxi at the BKK airport.

No. "There are no legal obstacles to running for president as a convicted felon or even from behind bars." “There’s nothing barring Trump from running. Even a federal conviction doesn’t prevent that. … Even if he were mentally insane,” Mazo said. “The Supreme Court has said what’s in the Constitution are the only requirements you need to run for federal office.” https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/06/trump-running-for-president-prison-00090931#:~:text=There are no legal obstacles,or even from behind bars.

I guess that is part of why I enjoyed living in KK -- I grew out of the need for good chats in English. When I first arrived, I had no transport and walked/songthaew/tuktuk to get around. I used to go to some of the farang bars near the then Sofitel. But I didn't smoke, I didn't drink, and I knew nothing about footie, so pretty soon I stopped going.

NY grand jury votes to indict Donald Trump, sources tell CNN
jerrymahoney replied to Scott's topic in World News
I think -- should this ever get that far -- the problem for the defense and prosecution would be finding persons who DON'T want be on the jury. -
BKK has a revolving gate on the 4th/Departure floor so no one can walk out and flag a taxi that has just dropped off passengers.

I lived in Kohn Kaen for 17 years and found it a very enjoyable place. But I don't think it offers a lot for the average especially young tourist.
