He was elected. Reminds me of this from MASH the movie (1970): Hotlips O'Houlihan: [to Father Mulcahy, referring to Hawkeye] I wonder how a degenerated person like that could have reached a position of responsibility in the Army Medical Corps! Father Mulcahy: [looks up from his Bible] He was drafted. -
'Programs. Programs Here! Can't Tell The Players Without A Program.' Tracking the lawsuits against Donald Trump’s executive actions Last updated Apr 29, 2025, 4:10 AM Dozens of lawsuits have been filed during President Donald Trump’s second administration. The suits challenge his executive orders as well as actions taken by his administration, including Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE. The courts have agreed to block the president in a number of cases, and the administration is seeking appeals as well. https://apnews.com/projects/trump-executive-order-lawsuit-tracker/

The sheer number of Trump Executive Orders, intended as kind of shock & awe, may soon work against the admin as they have let go or fired so many career-attorneys as per this NY Times headline 7 APR 2025: - Justice Dept. Lawyers Are Struggling to Defend Trump’s Policies in Court - Inside the department’s civil division, litigators are squeezed between judges demanding answers and bosses’ instructions to protect the Trump agenda at all costs. Photo caption: Career lawyers say they increasingly feel trapped between President Trump’s political appointees, like Attorney General Pam Bondi, and judges who demand comprehensible answers to basic questions.

The conservative-funded Pacific Legal Foundation handling 2 of the executive order IEEPA tariff cases says this: The president claims his tariff authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Passed by Congress in 1977, IEEPA provides that, upon the declaration of a national emergency, the president may exercise certain authorities “to deal with any unusual and extraordinary threat” to national security, foreign policy, or the economy. Historically, IEEPA has been used to impose economic sanctions in furtherance of foreign policy and national security goals—not to impose tariffs. But the statute includes no standards or guidelines for the exercise of those authorities. And IEEPA makes no mention of tariffs. (AND) We've been fighting for freedom since 1973. Over our 50 years, we've brought 20 cases to the Supreme Court and won 18 victories, including landmark cases in property rights and administrative law. https://pacificlegal.org/case/tariffs-lawsuit/

As Ms. Leavitt said JAN 28 *: "He is the executive of the executive branch, and therefore he has the power to fire anyone within the executive branch that he wishes to," she said. So now, as per executive orders, he is just the executive of the executive branch acting (incredibly) executively on anything regarding executive orders that he executively wishes. * https://www.axios.com/2025/01/28/white-house-ig-firings

02APR2025 -- President Trump is invoking his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA) to address the national emergency posed by the large and persistent trade deficit that is driven by the absence of reciprocity in our trade relationships and other harmful policies like currency manipulation and exorbitant value-added taxes (VAT) perpetuated by other countries. Using his IEEPA authority, President Trump will impose a 10% tariff on all countries. This will take effect April 5, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT. https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security/ _______________________________ As multiple lawsuits now state, including two from a conservative legal firm, the IEEPA does not contain the word "tariff".

America has emerged....as an international laughingstock
jerrymahoney replied to TheAppletons's topic in Political Soapbox
There multiple federal district lawsuits now and other lawsuits at The US Court of International Trade that tariffs as invoked by Trump under IEEPA are unlawful and unconstitutional. Countries have to have a back up plan until the cases are resolved. -
Speech: Donald Trump Holds a Post-Inaugural Rally at Capitol One Arena - January 20, 2025 Believe me, you're going to see a lot of companies come pouring back because tariffs. I always say tariffs is the most beautiful word to me in the dictionary. Then I was reprimanded by the fake news. They said what about love, religion and God. I said I agree. Let's put God number one. Let's put religion number two. And then (number three) it's tariff because tariffs are going to make us rich as hell. It's going to bring our countries businesses back that left us. And I also signed an executive order to immediately end federal government censorship of the American people. https://rollcall.com/factbase/trump/transcript/donald-trump-speech-inauguration-executive-orders-capitol-one-arena-january-20-2025/

Trump’s Tariffs Prompt Wave of Lawsuits as States and Businesses Fight Back The cases are the latest test of the president’s expansive claims of executive power. April 27, 2025 NY Times via https://archive.ph/8bk1M No president before Mr. Trump had ever imposed such import taxes under the (IEEPA) emergency law, which does not once mention the word “tariff.” That omission has set the stage for a series of pivotal legal clashes, hinging in part on whether the law truly empowers the president “without actually, explicitly saying tariffs,” said Ted Murphy, a co-leader of the global arbitration, trade and advocacy practice at the law firm Sidley Austin. The latest lawsuit arrived Thursday from the Pacific Legal Foundation, a group with reported ties to the conservative donor Charles Koch. On behalf of a clothing company, a board game designer and other small businesses, the group faulted Mr. Trump for imposing an “unlawful and unconstitutional” 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods, resulting in higher prices for American businesses. Another legal group with ties to Mr. Koch and the conservative financier Leonard A. Leo sued early this month on behalf of a Florida (stationery) company facing high costs from the president’s tariffs on China. Mr. Leo is a co-chairman of the Federalist Society, which has advised Mr. Trump on judicial appointments. * * Including all 3 Trump first term appointments to the Supreme Court

Geography? Can't beat this: “I was very up-front in my briefing on Day One that, if we feel that there are lies being pushed by outlets in this room, we are going to hold those lies accountable,” Leavitt said. “And it is a fact that the body of water off the coast of Louisiana is called the Gulf of America. And I’m not sure why news outlets don’t want to call it that, but that is what it is.”
