Why do retirees marry in Thailand ?
jerrymahoney replied to Franck60's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Well OK but there is only so much you can learn from the sidelines. Some of this reminds me of the old American comedy team Burns and Allen where George asks Gracie: So how is your uncle Fred in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. And Gracie rambles on for the next 5 minutes while George smokes his cigar. -
Adam Schiff Advocates Cognitive Tests for Biden and Trump

Carville calls for Clinton, Obama to help select fresh options to replace Biden 07/08/24 3:20 PM ET Carville said in an op-ed in The New York Times on Monday that he expects Biden will drop out of the 2024 race, saying it will only take time before the president will bow to pressure from Democrats and public and private polling. He also wrote that the sooner this happens, the better. ... “We’ve got to do it out in the open — the exact opposite of what Donald Trump wants us to do,” Carville said. “For the first time in his life, Mr. Trump is praying. To win the White House and increase his chances of avoiding an orange jumpsuit, he needs Democrats to make the wrong moves in the coming days — namely, to appear to rig the nomination for a fading president or the sitting vice president or some other heir apparent.” https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4760440-carville-democrats-clinton-obama/ -

When I went to the US Embassy Bangkok to get the affirmation to marriage doc, the options were 5. My marital status is: Divorced Widowed Single (Never married) I checked Single (Never married) When I handed the form to the old-hand consular officer, he looked at it and said: Are you sure you want to check that box that at age 70 you've never been married. NEVER? Here in Thailand, first one for me, anywhere. Ever. -

Maybe it's a bit early for your "only one captain of the ship" spiel. As best a I can tell from his posts, the OP guy has maybe never even been to Thailand. -
Re the "as long as I gave it my all" Biden comment above, this from the David Mamet script for the Paul Newman movie The Verdict (1982) with James Mason here at his slimiest: I'm going to tell you something that I learned when I was your age. I'd prepared a case and old man White said to me, "How did you do?" And, uh, I said, "Did my best." And he said, "You're not paid to do your best. You're paid to win."

‘Goodest Job’ or ‘Good as Job’? The White House Wants a Word. ABC News tweaked its transcript of an intriguing moment in its Friday interview with the president after the Biden administration and news outlets raised questions. “I’ll feel as long as I gave it my all and I did the goodest job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about,” Mr. Biden said, according to the official transcript that was distributed by ABC on Friday night. ABC’s standards team decided to review the audio after receiving queries on Saturday from the White House along with several news organizations, asking whether Mr. Biden had said “goodest” or “good as,” according to a person briefed on the network’s discussions. After conducting its review, the network decided to adjust the transcript and append the editors’ note, the person said. The network did not modify the audio and video of the interview itself. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/06/us/politics/biden-goodest-transcript.html

From 1974 Sport: Walton: Basketball’s Vegetarian Tiger FEBRUARY 25, 1974 12:00 AM EDT Oregon State was coming to town for an important game, so U.C.L.A. Center Bill Walton prepared in typical fashion. He began each day with his regular breakfast diet of yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, cereal, raisins, seeds and honey. He rode his ten-speed bicycle to the beach and contemplated the Pacific. He took his weekly acupuncture treatment: needles in the ears or legs to relieve pain from tendinitis in his knees. https://time.com/archive/6816999/sport-walton-basketballs-vegetarian-tiger/ (Bill) Walton died from colorectal cancer at his home in San Diego, on May 27, 2024, at the age of 71. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Walton -

Has the OP really ever been to Thailand? When I lived in Khon Kaen there was a group of French gents who met every morning -- I once tried to say Hello! but the gent said no English whether he could or not. But I was friendly with one of the Frenchmen who owned a restaurant I used to visit. Maybe you can find such a French underground in wherever it is you tend to at least visit Thailand in the next 5 years. -

Yes but it's also common that the house and car are in the wife's name but the farang paid for them cash lump sum. If they send me away, they will have the house and car payments to deal with on their own and, if they default, the banks have no recourse to me. -

And why not? Her family bought them. I just help with the monthly payments. Neither my name nor my wife's name legally appears anywhere. -

Not that I agree with your premise but to me it is chickenXXXX to anonymously post a sad or confused emoji rather than say what is the real bother. At least previously you could leave sad or confused emojis but not anonymously as someone just did here. -

This question has been asked one form or another many times. But, if you choose to respond about one's experience with one's own wife, you have to be prepared to be hit with following responses as to why your wife is not a fake wife.
