  1. Maybe something to do with the fact that my 2 pals in Rayong have KK issued retirement visas and have never set foot in KK.
  2. Just looked at the conditions from a used car loan company on 800,000 baht car. Maximum deposit they accept is 30% or 239,000 baht. Outstanding balance over 4 years, repayment is 13,516 baht per month. Over 7 years 9,100 baht month. Strangely it depends on the cost of the car as to the repayment terms imposed.
  3. I am curious to know how returnees trying to get free medical care are going to beat the waiting times. I am sure residents of the UK would love to know the secret. My good mate in the UK who paid all his taxes and NI was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm one year ago but sadly died before he could get his operation. He was only 63. The UK press are reporting that 300 to 500 people are dying unnecessary per week due to not getting rapid A&E treatment. The UK PM has promised to get waiting times down to one and a half years by spring 2024 in a speech yesterday. As an exercise google the wait times for operations in your home town. In my town a life threatening operation is 17 weeks to a hip replacement time of 102 weeks. Of course there is always the urban myth of the guy living in Phuket who collapsed at the baggage carousel at LHR and was rushed of to Papworth hospital no less, and had 3 stents inserted that day.
  4. From Villa yesterday. 14 Richmond imported pork sausages, 800 grams, 189 baht. Local made western butcher 8 pork sausages 500 grams 263 baht. 4 Greggs sausage rolls 479 grams 179 baht. One sausage roll from local western butcher 150 grams 90 baht. 4 Imported chicken pies 568 grams 179 baht. 1 local chicken pie 240 grams 125 baht.
  5. There is an ongoing discussion on another forum regarding importing personnel goods. In a nut shell guy imported goods that were declared on the import documents as personnel items. Customs declared that most of the shipment was household goods. Customs are attempting to get money from the shipper due to false declaration.. Shipper is trying to get money from client for making false declaration. Result goods are still with customs after six months.
  6. From the book the Serpent. Sobhraj's prison sentence in India was due to end before the 20-year Thai statute of limitations expired, ensuring his extradition and almost certain execution for murder in Thailand. So in March 1986, in his tenth year in prison, Sobhraj threw a big party for his guards and fellow inmates, drugged them with sleeping pills and walked out of the prison. His prison sentence was extended by ten years, just as he had hoped. On 17 February 1997, 52-year-old Sobhraj was released with most warrants, evidence and even witnesses against him long lost. Without any country to extradite him to, Indian authorities let him return to France.
  7. Fun facts. The aluminum castings for the engine were done in Linwood. The bare castings were sent to Coventry to be assembled into complete engines which were shipped back to Linwood. When the factory opened the paint shop was not completed, so unpainted body shells were sent to Coventry by rail in open wagons to be painted, then sent back to Linwood. No wonder early shells were rot boxes. Development consisted of driving the cars 1000's of miles non stop but nobody thought to test the cars in the city environment hence the heavy clutch and throttle problems went unnoticed.
  8. A repeat post I made a while ago. Arrived at BKK and the first immigration hall was very busy. Did the trick of continuing to the next hall which was slightly less crowded. Arriving at the booth I offered my passport and boarding card to be told that this was the wrong immigration hall for this flight and was told to go to the other hall for processing.
  9. Not mentioned on here but another site says that passports are returned after 2 days. Not next day as before. The fact you have to apply in person is perhaps the reason the agents business died.
  10. Search for Jaras Aviation Thailand (The registered owner) then hazard a guess as to how long the plane will remain seized.
  11. If anyone is interested on Thursday I watched a UK government select committee meeting into the performance of the home office. Obviously most was about the immigrant situation. The last question was regarding the passport delays. It appears that one company that was given the contract to either print or manufacture the passports is the delay. As they are in breach of contract Braverman was asked by an MP what if any penalties had been awarded against the company. Braverman had no idea. She then waffled on that the waiting time had been reduced to three weeks. Her flunky then had to step in and say that the MP was correct and it was still 10 weeks. Sorry missed the name of the company involved. No wonder company's want government contracts as it seems there is no accountability.
  12. I use the same trays as you show but I do not use the sponges. I use ground up coir soaked overnight in a bowl with propagating solution. I squeeze out most of the moisture then spread over to fill all the cones. Place one seed in each cone and cover with a dusting of the coir mixture. I have a hand spraying bottle filled with propagating fluid and give a light spraying each morning to keep the coir moist, but not wet which will encourage root rot. When the seedlings reach approximately 3/4 inch I transfer to clear plastic drinking cups filled with clay beads and a weaker growing medium. This way you can observe the root growth. With sufficient growth I transfer to my final growing system. There is a "farming in Thailand" section which has a hydroponic section in Aseannow for more methods.
  13. As I mentioned in a previous post I was in Penang approximately 6 weeks ago and Jim's place and the Banana Guest house, who today are not accepting room bookings, were both closed along with numerous other visa shops. Below is the last entry on Jim's Farcebook page dated December 2020. Hi my friend ,hunni is helping with collecting some fund to help me to keep my place in Penang until something good happens or when the border opens.well I have closed shop fir nearly 10 months and I have used up all my savings and I think I cannot carry on without some financial help.from my friends and my clients.any help will be appreciated and when the visa situation is back to normal I will be there to help u guys again.Thank u so much.
  14. Strangely if you talk to people from a more advanced charging system country than Thailand they will tell you that the best place to charge your vehicle is at a desolate and wind swept station that only has a greasy spoon burger van that sells instant coffee, as when peoples cars are charged they will vacate immediately. The last place to charge is a supermarket, shopping center, tourist hot spot, anywhere with third party attractions as people tend to return to their cars, not when the car is charged but when they are ready to leave. Some council ran car parks with chargers are giving 40 minutes free parking if you charge your vehicle. Of course people that do not really need to charge will still connect to the charger and get 40 minutes free city center parking. How long before we see the first photo of the ICE vehicle parked in the mall charging bay as it is less distance to walk?
  15. Just want to confirm if this is BS or the border has reopened. Just talked to a guy who claims he has just got a 45 day VE from Mae Sai within the last week.
  16. Unfortunately 2000/2001 was a model change year for the Audi A4 in Europe. You need to find out which engine is fitted, as prior to the model change two different 1600 cc engines were used although both are Volkswagen based. If you are lucky to have the 1800 cc engine then this is pure VW Passat. I am pretty sure your car will be a pre 2001 car as Audi had announced the series two and needed somewhere to offload the discontinued model. Personally I would investigate the starter to try and find a model number to see if it was fitted to any other car particularly the VW group. I assume you have done all the checks and are 100% it is the starter and not a relay or solonoid or ring gear fault.
  17. 1969 10 baht uncirculated appraised 3.80 US dollar. Circulated appraised at 10 baht. Rama 8 Era 10 baht uncirculated appraised 19,000 to 42,000 baht depended on the finance minister who signed. Circulated 2,500 to 6,000 baht
  18. I arrived Penang by air and got 90 days entry. On leaving Penang, as I had no checked baggage I got my boarding pass from the electronic kiosk so no questions about vaccine status from airline staff. Arrived at DMK. There are two girls standing on the walkway. Out of around 150 passengers they stopped two. A guy in front of me was stopped. He showed a piece a paper to the girl but curiously his passport was closed and in his hand. The check took around 5 seconds. There is cubicle where they administer the ATK test if you are stopped and have no vaccination or test certification. This part I overheard so may be wrong. My two friends decided to take the bus from Penang to Hat Yai as they were going to Samui. Not the ticket office nor the bus driver nor at the border were they asked for any Covid document status and received 30 day visa exempt. Regarding consulate, I met a guy who was refused visa as they would not except his Agoda booking. They wanted to see receipt for payment from hotel. PS I have arrived twice in the last month at DMK and even though I had an ATK cert was never asked to show it to anyone.
  19. Try a company like this? https://www.octopus.co.th/pages/logo-signage-printing-shop
  20. I have just returned from one week in Penang. As a UK passport holder I got 90 days on entry. No vaccine or test required to enter. My first visit since Covid after many visits. Lots of Chinese and Indians. Almost never saw a backpacker or a westerner. Chulia street is a shadow of its previous self. All the Thai visa shops appear closed and abandoned. Even the famous Jim's Place and Banana guesthouse. Got the impression Penang is going up market. Two hotels I stay at were 1200 baht with breakfast before Covid are now 2000 baht no breakfast. Both full with Chinese.
  21. I was a regular visitor to Savannakhet so here are my dodges. Don't take the bus, but take a tuk tuk leaving 15 minutes before the bus. When you arrive at Thai immigration there will be no people. Buy your bus ticket at the office next to immigration. When the bus arrives you will be first on first off. If visa on arrival have your form pre filled out to save time I also have blank arrival cards. They stamp you in at the visa office so you might catch the same bus to town if not going to the consulate. I beat all the evisa holders last time who have to join the queue. Returning to Thailand make sure you have a stripey plastic vendors bag and buy two cases of large beer Laos for 200,000 kip at the wholesaler close to the border. Put the bag in the hold with the other bags and no one will notice it. Put an identifier mark on it.
  22. Might be worth noting that the visa run company that pre covid always used Vientiane are now using Savannakhet.
  23. The Dubai Lamp: “World’s Most Efficient” LED Light Bulb Back in October of 2016, the partnership of Dubai Municipality and Philips Lighting released their Dubai Lamp, a series of the “world’s most efficient commercially available” LED light bulbs. Through their partnership, Philips Lighting and Dubai Municipality created the Dubai Lamp, a light bulb that is said to decrease an electricity bill by 90%. According to a press release on Philips Lighting website, this is the world’s first commercially available light bulb that produces 200 lumen per watt. The Dubai Lamp comes in 4 different light bulb varieties: 1 Watt, equivalent to 25W incandescent light bulb. Lifetime = 15,000 hours, or 15 years based on 1,000 hours a year. 2 Watt, equivalent to 40W incandescent light bulb. Lifetime = 15,000 hours, or 15 years based on 1,000 hours a year. 3 Watt, equivalent to 60W incandescent light bulb. Lifetime = 15,000 hours, or 15 years based on 1,000 hours a year. 3 Watt Spot light bulb, equivalent to 35W or 50W halogen light bulb. Lifetime = 25,000 hours, or 25 years based on 1,000 hours a year.
  24. A Closer Look at the ‘Blade Battery' That Tesla Will Reportedly Use for its $25,000 EV The auto industry was abuzz last week after reports that electric automaker Tesla will use a new type of “Blade Battery” for its rumored “Model 2”, a compact and affordable EV that will reportedly cost under $25,000 and offer a range of around 250 miles. The new Blade Battery was developed by FinDreams Battery, an independent subsidiary of Chinese automaker BYD, which is also a major supplier of EV batteries to other automakers.
  25. Two further things to check. The nut holding the gearshift lever can becomes loose. Heat Shield The number one rattling culprit in your March is the exhaust heat shield. They can get a little loose as the vehicle ages and accumulates mileage. Once this happens, it’ll rattle all of the time. It’s particularly noticeable when you rev the engine in neutral and let off of the gas pedal. You should hear a rattle as the engine comes back down from the higher RPM. A worn linkage can also rub against the heat shield in certain gear positions. From Nissan March forum. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the CVT fitted in Thai cars is the same as fitted to UK cars. If it is there are two large doughnut type magnets on the sump that will show the amount of debris. There is an internal filter exposed when the sump is removed. Below is the filter kit for K12 UK spec.
