Safari bar still closed
Not only the Safari Bay closed, but many others, Patpong closed down in covid, and lots of staff laid off. It has never recovered I would estimate 50% of bars closed and very quiet. I went to Crown Royal about 1 month back with a couple of visitors, it was 8.30pm and we were the first customers of the bay and the only visitors there, a shadow of its former state in the early 2000s on a Friday night was standing room only. Now dead quiet like lots of bars

What do you need before moving from Australia to Thailand?
I suggest that passports have a long expiry date as when passport is renewed then lots of issues with banks, visas etc. Before I came to Thailand 5 years ago I got a new passport despite having 3 years before expiry, so 10 year life in Aus passport, so I have 5 years before the hassle or maybe pass away before runs out

Inheritance order in a Thai family
I understand amongst siblings (assuming both parents have died) is the first in line is the youngest daughter. I know of a family the youngest daughter inherited the land despite she was actually adopted. That assume no formal will prepared, which Thais do not usually have a will as think it puts jinx on you (bs)

Commanders Face Heat Over Army Conscript Abuse Scandal
Finally a government spokesman is doing something about the treatment of conscripts, this has been going on for years plus using them as glorified maids to senior officers. Is there any wonder there is no trust in the military to treat people fairly. Discipline is fine, but cruelty is not, bullies the lot of them, praying on people who cannot fight back, so basically cowards.

Earthquake Rocks Bangkok: Building Collapses with 40 people inside
I understand that concrete takes up to 28 days to gain full strength, so if adding floors to quickly then the concrete is not strong enough to support above floors. Usual cost cutting and shody workmanship by engineers, Was this a Chinese construction company. Typical dodgy practises

Whistleblower Exposes Thai Hospital Drug Fraud
I always ask what is being prescribed and often items are crossed out. It is my understanding from a retired Doctor than at many hospitals the Doctors are given a target amount of drugs to be prescribed. Drop below the target and sanctions are imposed

90 Day Report.
I do my 90 day report via my retirement visa, pay B500 and do not need to leave my condo. If had to go to CW a B300-500 taxi ride, 3-4 hours and taxi return same cost. Receive new 90 day report after about a week via EMS, easy. I tried online but a crap website. In fact I did no 90 day report for about 3 years before and decided better to follow the rules, although no noise about no report for so long.

No tax on Aussie pension
I am an Aussie who previously had a work permit in Thailand, but retired and went back to Australia for the required 2 years to be able to receive the Centrelink pension while living in Thailand. I receive the Centrelink (Asssie gov pension) payment into my BBL account each 4 weeks. I also earn some commissions from a Thai company (less then allowed earnings under Centrelink rules). The Thai company takes 5% withholding tax from my commission. I recently had my Thai tax return submitted on line by a Thai accountant, I received all the withholding tax back this week. I did provide the accountant with a 1 year bank statement from BBL plus copies of the Centrelink details of pension payments. The Revenue Department obviously did not require and tax to be payable on my Aussie pension. There is a DTA Thailand & Australia which states tax on pensions is not payable here. Other country pensions I have no idea about and don't care. But Aussie pensioners here should be breathing easier.

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Have people considered the impact on foreign funds being used to support 'girl friends', wives and perhaps children in Thailand from a farang. If say a farang sends B30k per month to Thailand from abroad then the Thai referred to above could be up for tax on the foreign income. By rough reckoning that could see the Thai recipient up for tax, depending on age etc, for up to B7.5k per year. So not only the expat up for tax but the Thai foreign income recipient. Some of those Thais would have never been registered for tax (no TIN) or ever paid tax. How will the Revenue Dept treat this income?

Lower back pain, only if I walk.
Try acupuncture as an option. I had a pinched nerve in my lower back that was giving me considerable pain down my right leg. Try 7-8 treatments, I did and the pain went away and has never come back. Try for a acupuncturist who has been trained in China. Not expensive, perhaps 500-1000 per visit and better than surgery.

My blood test shows high Cholesterol – Looking for advice - Drugs / Diet .
Try no margarine, it is a poison, use extra virgin olive oil on sandwiches and toast and salads. a tablespoon of olive oil daily will bring down bad cholesterol. Statins can make the old fellow not work so well, I tried with old fellow less willing to work, so stopped right away then back to normal. Agree with comments above re fish oil or oily fish

Paid TV For My Condo
One can get ABC Asia on True Visions, usually live show 4-5 matches per week, But no all condos connected to True Visons on cable. I checked before I rented my current condo, True office can tell you whether your condo is connected to True. (ask at least 3 times to be sure), I have a friend in Suk 32,, he can get True but his True package does not include ABC Asia. If I could not get ABC Asia at my unit I would go elsewhere.

Bank account status after work permit cancelled
My work permit was cancelled about 5 years back as retired. No need to tell the banks anything. Even when obtained a renewal of passport with new number I advised the banks of new passport number. No questions were asked about visa status, so recommend keep silent. I have bank accounts with BBL and KBank

Thai Immigration updates online system for 90-day reporting
I tried online just last week and submitted and got a message to update my TM30 after waiting 4 days, updated the TM30 with my landlord immediately and then nothing. The landlord advised he had received the same request from other tenants. So submitted via an agent, again as time was running short.
