  1. This app looks completely pointless. Why would I want convert foreign currency into some crappy card? If it worked like WeixinPay or Alipay in China where you can link it to a foreign credit card, that would be useful. Although the foreign bank tends to freak out and it requires a few phone calls to explain what is going on.
  2. Sorry about your experience. It seems consistent with the experiences of others in that there is no consistency from TRD and one should stay away from them if at all possible. It especially dumb in the case of long term resident visas because these are supposed to be the “high quality foreigners” that Thailand is looking for. Im outside the Kingdom at the moment but judging from the news there’s been general change of sentiment and Thais are really turning against foreigners in general.
  3. Apparentjy your wife needs one. You’re just using her account.
  4. My BKK Bank account is registered to a phone number that is also registered to me. I have not received any such notification. I am overseas at the moment, outside Thailand.
  5. that information is out of date, if it was ever correct.
  6. The dozens of phishing emails in my spam email box say the same thing. Should I be concerned? Oh uh I’m worried now
  7. Enough is enough people; the whole tax thing was clearly a scam by unscrupulous tax lawyers to drum up business. TRD tells you that, why insist? People must be so bored and gullible.
  8. Doing things “by the book” in Thailand seems like it should insulate you from unforeseen hardships, but I think that’s too optimistic. Let’s face it, the common populace doesn’t behave that way, for a reason. It’s not just laziness or something, it’s a knowledge that doing things that way can actually backfire.
  9. They’re not that clever. Reports are that the Thai revenue department’s approach to the myriad of dual tax agreements, is to ignore them. Best to stay off their radar.
  10. There’s no way to tell if it will work on China. Just be prepared for the worst. As far as outside China, it absolutely will not work outside China unless you have a Chinese ID card (meaning you are a chinese) I am very surprised you were able to register at all for WeChat outside China. I could only do so once I was in China,
  11. Nobody uses the website banking apart from geriatrics. The phone app is more secure and useful.
  12. I think quick pay lets you QR code pay without entering your password.
  13. Have you ever heard the expression “no good deed goes unpunished?” I think you’re making a hassle for yourself for no good reason.
  14. He did that. That’s what the story is about 🤔
  15. None of that is normal. It was easy to set up the app. I even managed to move it to another phone in Australia when I bought one there.
  16. I never understand people that criticize somewhere for being inexpensive. Go to Manhattan if you want expensive. Although from what I hear, Phuket is hardly cheap these days.
  17. There are several threads that report that Thai tax offices are not honoring DTAs. Best to just keep up on your U.S. taxes and ignore the Thai situation unless they magically become competent. It sounds like you aren’t bringing much into Thailand anyway and what you have has already been taxed, so you shouldn’t have trouble down the line if they ever grow a clue at TRD.
  18. I doubt they will care, whether the DTA is presented to them in Thai or not. They’d probably say something ridiculous like you have to pay them and then you have to get the money back from your government. Best avoid them. Literally just sitting on a bar stool drinking a warm chang is a better use of time.
  19. Clearly expats in general need to stay away from TRD and not worry about the tax issue, particularly if their income in exempt. There might be other more complicated scenarios for business owners or something but I’m not speaking to that. The rumors and hysteria are not doing anyone any good. I’m glad I was in Thailand less than 180 days in 2024, not that it would have mattered.
  20. I saw something like this happen at a 7-Eleven in Hua Hin. An older foreign man claimed he paid 1000 baht, but I was behind him in line and he hadn’t. I think in that case he was just an idiot though.
  21. I think it varies because banks have different policies about debits to the accounts. Some of mine are instant, others take a week.
  22. Im going to post and gloat in May when nothing has happened.
  23. It doesn’t work for ACH anymore only IAT and to my knowledge no retail US bank offers that. The guy with the the Vanguard account, are you sending IAT or Swift?
