  1. Assuming someone already has a degree in their respective teaching subject (but not education), What is the cheapest, easiest, fastest course that satisfies the ministry of education and krusapa requirements for a full teacher’s license? I realize that may be three different answers, but I think you see what I am getting at here. I hope this won’t devolve into a discussion of the educational merits of such a certificate in general. I have had enough school. I just want the certificate with the least possible difficulty and expense. Thank you
  2. I am not aware of any US bank that will do an international ACH transfer. Only domestic ACH and wire transfers. Bangkok Bank will reject domestic ACH as per their new policies to comply with stupid new laws.
  3. Indeed. You don’t just “wear nice shoes” or “bring a Thai.” That doesn’t change the requirements. Also, if you have an account you expect to be unused for awhile, you can cancel the debit card so that there is no fee for the account. You still have to maintain a minimum balance for the account to not be considered inactive. I think that’s 3000 baht. But I think in principle if you have no card on the account and say a 4000 baht balance you can leave the account for 5 years and it should be okay.
  4. I would like to know of a single bank that does international ACH for retail customers.
  5. I like to stand at bars for my own reasons. Why do bar staff INSIST that I sit down? They will stand next to me telling me to sit down, over and over and over again. “You can sit down.” “I know.” ”Sit down.” What is the deal with this? I hate explaining it over and over again, I’m thinking of making up cards in Thai to hand to them so I don’t have to do that. Why do they lose their <deleted> if don’t sit down?
  6. I’ve been turned away from about 7 branches and told I cannot open an account there on a tourist visa, only a “one year visa.”
  7. Is there anyone on this forum under 70? Learn to use technology, without it you’re basically crippled.
  8. I’ve heard from someone that there is now zero nightlife in Vientiane whatsoever. Is this true?
  9. Figure out the number 1 place you want to work and show up there. It may take a couple of visits. Convince the boss you should work there. The easiest way is to make them like you and that’s easier than it sounds. Ask them for a very small favor, like a drink of water. They will rationalize that they did you the favor because they like you. Then confirmation bias will take over and they will have a “good feeling” about you without knowing why. But you have to literally show up, Thai people are intimidated by the idea of responding to emails in English. Showing up in person will also let them see that you are Thai.
  10. You should be able to do it yourself at Bangkok Bank and without buying the insurance policy. You might need a bunch of documents. Otherwise you could get a 3 month NON-O outside Thailand.
  11. Sorry, maybe I miscommunicated but I did not try any Bangkok Bank branches since I already have an account with them. But they do say on their website that they open accounts for tourists and there are recent anecdotal reports to that effect on the internet.
  12. It is no longer possible to open a Thai bank account on a visa waiver stamp except (maybe) at Bangkok Bank. I have tried at more than 40 branches in 5 provinces. Krungsri, SCB, Krung Thai and Kasikorn have all told me very consistently that it was possible on a waiver stamp or tourist visa but no longer is. Now you need a “one year visa.”. You are wasting your time telling them that you need a bank account to get a one year visa. Might as well speak to them in Swahili. An agent will undoubtedly use Bangkok Bank and it may not change the requirements, just that they will speak to the branch staff on your behalf which is probably unnecessary. Anyway the short version is try different Bangkok Bank branches until you get one that is cooperative.
  13. Two years ago I bought an AIS Net Marathon SIM. 1790 baht for 100 GB per month, for a year. That works out to be about 150 baht per month. After a year, I was offered the option to renew for the same price. This I did. I was hoping that as the third year approached, I would be offered the same deal. Alas I was not, and that package has sadly now expired. Is there a way I can get it back, absent buying a new Net Marathon SIM? If that is impossible, then is there an equivalent monthly package? I looked at the packages available on the AIS app and they were all <deleted> except a “special” offering. That is 100GB for 30 days for 300 baht, but that is double the price I was paying so obviously that isn’t as good. It’s not important to me whether it’s 5G or 4G since I was getting about 70 Mbps with 4G and that is plenty fast enough for my purposes. I use about 50GB per month so that’s the bare minimum. I’m using an iPhone 12 if that will make a difference to any suggestions. Thanks
  14. USAA ATM fee reimbursement is down to $10 a month, so if you are making more than one withdrawal then you are going to pay some of the fee for the second withdrawal.
  15. To my knowledge the US embassy does not issue such letters. But is good to know that it is not outright prohibited at Bangkok Bank to open accounts for people on visa exempt stamps.
  16. I know you don’t want to hear this but you should buy a new phone. The non Apple batteries are <deleted> and an Apple battery is going to cost at least 4000 baht. For that you could buy an iphone 8 in decent condition. But if I were you I would get a better phone than that. If you like the small form factor the new 2022 SE is about 15,000 baht.
  17. Do you mean they let you open an account? When was this? What visa were you on? Thanks
  18. I have been rejected from 12 SCB branches in 5 different provinces over the course of a year. They usually tell me I need a work permit. One said I need a year visa.
  19. Do you have a company registration document from the department of business development? I have been reading the requirements for business owners to open accounts at KBANK and this document is mentioned. It may be the same at SCB, even if the staff are unaware at individual branches.
  20. It never gets as far as showing them documents or having long conversations in Thai. They ask to see my passport, find my tourist visa and tell me no. Every single time, at 40 different branches. I think there needs to be a sticky thread or something telling people that is no longer possible to open an account on a tourist visa unless it is Bangkok Bank, and it may not even be possible there either. I don’t know.
  21. Several debit cards also have no foreign transaction fee. Any capital one debit cards for example.
  22. “I don’t have a phone number.” You can get easily get a VOIP number.
