  1. Would someone please explain to me why people are carrying cash around all over the place and across borders? It’s a huge liability.
  2. I am busy with projects that require a workspace like a desk and a chair. Sometimes I travel between towns near Bangkok but I can’t spare the time to stop working while I am in transit. A taxi doesn’t have a table and an SUV from Bolt doesn’t either. A bus table is not optimal because of scheduling. Are there limo services or something that have a proper desk where work can be done?
  3. Why don’t you just SWIFT transfer the money to a Thai account? Why mess around doing ATM withdrawal in cash?
  4. What is กล้วยน้ำว้า in English? A Google search in Thai was inconclusive. One site said “Ducasse banana” but seemed unsure of itself. I would like to know the name of this banana cultivar in English.
  5. Maybe you typed in your account number wrong or something
  6. I think what will happen is that the new system won’t work unless you have a Thai national ID card, such that “farangs” won’t be able to transfer more than 50k baht at a time from their phones. I would be happy to be wrong about that prediction but I am pessimistic.
  7. If their policy change negatively affects joint accounts, and they don’t care, then what are we to think?
  8. I used to wonder about that in regard to the tailor shops. Some shops, in Bangkok I had never seen a single person in there in 10 years. Zero customers. Yet there they were, still open.
  9. Try opening an account online, I think those only require a Thai ID card
  10. I don’t understand why anyone would use Wise to hold currency. Why not just leave it in a real account in USD/GBP/EUR or whatever?
  11. I don’t have a pink ID card. I submitted my passport and bank book.
  12. I went in to Bangkok Bank yesterday and and got the face “scan” done, as well as some more details on how it’s going to work. Apparently starting soon, anyone using the mobile banking app to transfer more than 50,000฿ at a time will have to be verified through the phone’s front facing camera. Amounts less than this are unaffected, as are ATM transfers. People can opt out but they won’t be able to transfer amounts larger than 50,000฿ using the mobile app. It was done quite quickly at a local branch (a different branch in a different province from where i opened the account), though I am skeptical that the low resolution webcam they used to “scan” my face will provide a clear enough image.
  13. the 4th and 5th were holidays and the 6th and 7th were the weekend
  14. The Bangkok Bank website says this is for Thais only. I’m worried that foreigners won’t be allowed to use the new system and will therefore be unable to make large transactions, by default. It may be another way that foreigners are walled off economically and legally in society.
  15. often they’re working alongside teachers who are actually being paid to work. So the agency is being paid by the the “volunteer” AND the school, keeping their entire salary!
  16. To avoid the hassle of changing large notes, I take cash out 400 baht at a time. That way it has to give me hundred baht notes. So If i take out 2000 baht, that’s five withdrawals right there.
  17. I don’t know if there is a limit but I’ve used it probably 60 times in a month and never been charged anything.
  18. Thank you. I emailed that email address and they activated roaming.
  19. I need to receive an OTP (one time password) from Bangkok Bank but I am currently outside Thailand. How can I receive the OTP or enable roaming at least? I can’t login to the AIS app because it requires, guess what, an OTP.
  20. Typically commercially produced beer in most countries in Europe for example is just pasteurized and doesn’t have other preservatives. It’s commonly said however that Thai beer has preservatives in it to keep it from spoiling when left in the heat and sun. It’s also said that this is the origin of the bad hangovers from Thai beer as well as the odd flavor, even for “international” brand like Heineken. There’s an obvious difference between the taste of a Thai heineken and one from the Netherlands or anywhere else for that matter. Anyway…are there in fact preservatives in Thai beer that are uncommon in Europe? If you have not heard about the preservatives, that’s fine, but I’m interested in getting to the truth of the matter about whether they’re in there or not.
  21. There’s no way the fed can fix its mess without raising interest rates higher than inflation.
  22. All fools that thought the US Federal Reserve was done raising interest rates are now realizing that rates will be north of 7% in a year.
