Affordable place with Belgian beer on draft
Everyman replied to Everyman's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
it’s still open but it no longer has Belgian beer on tap nor a happy hour -
I used to go to a restaurant called A La Mér. They had Belgian beer on draft and a great happy hour but sadly both are gone. Does anyone know if it is under new management? Does anyone know of a place with Belgian beer on draft at reasonable prices, hopefully with some nice Belgian food as well?

I noticed this in Bangkok. I started going once every few years instead of every weekend! I actually found a place I like more.

Fees for cardless withdrawal coming

You’re right but I assumed it would go both ways. Otherwise it’s an advantage for a BBL account, although a minor one. -

If they are in the U.S. have them send it to you with Zelle. It’s instant. -
For crissake put the box in the fridge and see what happens.

Curries are made from coconut milk which is a solid when it is cold. That’s it. Regarding the scientific paper somebody posted, it does not support their claim at all, at least not in the abstract.

Poll/Survey: Expat Tax Residency Status
Everyman replied to Skeptic7's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I will do nothing different, but I’ve been traveling a lot for unrelated reasons and don’t expect to be in Thailand for 180 days this year. I only bring in enough to live on for myself anyway, so I’m the smallest fish they could go after. If they do anything, they’ll make an example of a bigger fish, then we will see. But I think that a year from now exactly nothing will have happened and everyone will still be back and forth with the speculating. As far as “following the laws of the kingdom,” I don’t think most people realize just how many things are illegal in Thailand and how many laws everyone routinely violates. But that doesn’t matter, what matters is enforcement of laws, which is also the case with this tax business. -
It’s sichuan chicken, and it also had sichuan chilis.

Fu Man Lo Chinese restaurant next to soi 6/1. I did have to explain that I wanted it as spicy as it would normally be.
-
I’m a westerner, and I can’t read Chinese so I don’t know if there was some secret phrase scrawled on the sign that let Chinese people know that all the money would be sent back to China. I just like Chinese food.

With the return of Chinese tourists to Pattaya there are a huge number of new Chinese restaurants, including Sichuan restaurants. If you like spicy, this is cuisine to try!

This is probably not of much consequence or interest to many of you, except Thailand based expats like me that also go to China and like their cashless payment system. Anyway, despite rumor to the contrary (I think I read the rumor here) WeChat (Weixin) Pay still only works outside China if you have a Chinese ID card. Which I think you have to be Chinese to get. Still it looks like WeChat is setup to take payment in Thai baht if a Thai WeChat pay QR code is scanned. Anyway, since my WeChat pay is linked to my “farang” credit card, it would have let me spend on my CC in more places. But oh well.

Not accepting foreign credit cards
Everyman replied to maxx58's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Accepting foreign credit cards has nothing to do with Thai culture. Living in Thailand doesn’t mean treating Thai people like they are happy, stupid children. They might talk to you in baby talk but they are capable of having adult reasons for things, and that is what is thread is about. -

Fees for cardless withdrawal coming
Everyman replied to digbeth's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I just withdraw money from my Bangkok Bank account from a KBANK ATM and didn’t receive a corresponding message about a fee. I would think that if BBL is going to charge KBANK customers 10 baht to use cardless then KBANK will charge BBL customers the same. I guess we’ll find out in about a week, anyway. -
Fees for cardless withdrawal coming
Everyman replied to digbeth's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If there is, I hope it’s not for BBL users using BBL ATMs. It’s saved me a lot money since I live in a different province than my account and I make frequent small withdrawals. -

Do you have a link for this news? -
I am very surprised on this thread at the number of people that say they’ve never been screamed at. In Pattaya I am screamed at least 50 or 60 times per day, often by deranged people shouting across streets at me like broken robots impersonating humans. It’s so degrading to me and inhuman of them that i don’t understand how anyone can behave that way. Then if I go into a bar it’s the above problem.

Milestones continue to pass without any updates from the revenue department regarding enforcement. Last year everyone was waiting for the new year to hear more. There was nothing. Now everyone is waiting for the six month residency period. There will be nothing. Then they will say “oh, something will be announced by the end of 2024.” When that date passes they will point to the audit period. Regarding the residency thing, how does TRD know how long you’ve been in the country? With the DTAs as complicated and varied as they are, surely the rule change is minor, so why does everyone think they will suddenly step up enforcement, especially absent any statements to affirm that? How much different is it to prove that monies were earned in a different year than to prove they fall under a DTA provision? If it’s suddenly so critical to get a tax ID number merely based on residency, then why is it also so difficult to get one as compared to someone working in Thailand? My first thought when I saw the announcement in September was that it was aimed at a few wealthy Thais that have managed to wriggle out of audits based on that rule, not foreign residents or condo investors, even if they are affected under the letter of the law. For resident that brings in enough money to live on or even buy a [few] condo[s] or build a house for an Isaan girl or even start a small business, there’s not enough reason to do anything at all, and certainly not to “avoid Thai tax residency” which there is no evidence the TRD can track anyway or is interested in tracking. And the consequences down the road if something does get enforced is what…a 2000 baht fine and asserting to TRD that funds fall under a DTA?

Tax Id Number

What are the consequences for doing absolutely nothing about this supposed new tax issue?
