  1. Hey you’re right, just piss away a million baht a year on nothing, yeah that’s fine.
  2. I think that the governments plan is impossible to implement, and so it won’t be. If somehow it does, I’ll just spend more time each year outside Thailand. As it I’m too young to qualify for a retirement visa and so I’m on tourist visas and will probably be outside the country for more than 180 days this year anyway. I don’t need to be kicked in the face over and over again trying to live in Thailand, there are other places that actually want me.
  3. It won’t because nothing will happen, it’s all hot air. If you don’t believe me, consider that the revenue department has made contradictory statements that can’t both me true. Such as 1. Credit card spending in Thailand will be taxed. 2. World wide income will be taxed. Taxing both would mean that the funds are taxed twice, once as they are earned and again as they are brought into Thailand. Or I suspect, neither will happen because enforcement is impossible. And those talking about CRS…assuming that countries give each other the detailed financial records of all their citizens, are they really going to be able to comb through all that data to find all your accounts? It’s ridiculous.
  4. credit cards are safer than cash, debit cards are less safe than cash
  5. Ain’t going to happen. Countries like the US aren’t going to hand over massive amounts of intelligence on their own citizens to any tin pot foreign regime that asks for it. Imagine China searching such a database for patterns consistent with foreign spying, or using it to dig up dirt on presidential candidates and leaking it to the press. Even in the U.S the government couldn’t get Trump’s financial records without a subpoena. This had gone far enough into paranoia land. You all need to take some Xanax, have a Chang in your favorite lady bar and forget about this for a couple years so you can see that nothing will happen. If it makes you feel better, pick a lady bar in Angeles city so you don’t spend more than 180 days in a year in Thailand.
  6. Random banks in the US, Europe and the UK aren’t going to hand over account and transaction en masse to whatever tin pot country asks for them. Why? National security. This information could be used for spying purposes. And don’t tell me about “CRS.” There is a ton of paranoid hysteria about every comment coming out of revenue department these days, but what has actually happened so far is NOTHING.
  7. you are forgetting that you will have to pay whichever tax rate ends up being higher. The top tax rate in Thailand is 35% and it kicks in at a much lower income that the same rate in the U.S.
  8. Why are you all so impatient. So what if it takes a few days?
  9. I have Disney + Hotstar in Thailand and when I travel in the Philippines and try to access my account I am prompted to sign up and pay for a new one. Is there a way to use my Thai account from there? I don’t think a VPN will work.
  10. they physically removed the taps and replaced it with Chang. it’s not a high season low season thing. also i was there for low season last year and they had it. i know it’s hard keeping that on draft. i just want to know if another place has it.
  11. it’s still open but it no longer has Belgian beer on tap nor a happy hour
  12. I used to go to a restaurant called A La Mér. They had Belgian beer on draft and a great happy hour but sadly both are gone. Does anyone know if it is under new management? Does anyone know of a place with Belgian beer on draft at reasonable prices, hopefully with some nice Belgian food as well?
  13. I noticed this in Bangkok. I started going once every few years instead of every weekend! I actually found a place I like more.
  14. You’re right but I assumed it would go both ways. Otherwise it’s an advantage for a BBL account, although a minor one.
  15. Did you mean June 1st? I’m still not being charged a fee at Kasikorn.
  16. There is no information in this thread because there has been nothing decided yet by the government for how this visa is going to work. No amount of research will find information that doesn’t exist.
  17. There is absolutely no useful information in this thread, it’s all uninformed speculation.
  18. If they are in the U.S. have them send it to you with Zelle. It’s instant.
  19. For crissake put the box in the fridge and see what happens.
  20. Curries are made from coconut milk which is a solid when it is cold. That’s it. Regarding the scientific paper somebody posted, it does not support their claim at all, at least not in the abstract.
  21. I will do nothing different, but I’ve been traveling a lot for unrelated reasons and don’t expect to be in Thailand for 180 days this year. I only bring in enough to live on for myself anyway, so I’m the smallest fish they could go after. If they do anything, they’ll make an example of a bigger fish, then we will see. But I think that a year from now exactly nothing will have happened and everyone will still be back and forth with the speculating. As far as “following the laws of the kingdom,” I don’t think most people realize just how many things are illegal in Thailand and how many laws everyone routinely violates. But that doesn’t matter, what matters is enforcement of laws, which is also the case with this tax business.
  22. It’s sichuan chicken, and it also had sichuan chilis.
  23. Fu Man Lo Chinese restaurant next to soi 6/1. I did have to explain that I wanted it as spicy as it would normally be.
  24. I’m a westerner, and I can’t read Chinese so I don’t know if there was some secret phrase scrawled on the sign that let Chinese people know that all the money would be sent back to China. I just like Chinese food.
  25. With the return of Chinese tourists to Pattaya there are a huge number of new Chinese restaurants, including Sichuan restaurants. If you like spicy, this is cuisine to try!
