How important would it be for you to have either a Quiet Room or a Room With a View, if you had to choose between having one or the other? In my VIEW (get it?), I would always choose to have at LEAST one quiet room, always available, where I might escape anytime, and every time, a rooster began crowing, or someone began mowing. Thailand is not only one of the noisiest of countries, but the type of noise one hears here is among the most annoying that I have ever experienced, in any country, except maybe.....(actually, there are no exceptions that I have found). You name the noise, and Thailand has plenty of almost any type. This is why having a Quiet room is so essential to one's piece of mind, not to mention one's utter sanity. I would liken much of Thailand noise to listening to a two-year-old screaming infant, day after day, for intolerability. Even doctors recommend new mothers to escape their screaming infants, once in a while, by escaping to the bathroom, turning on the shower, and plugging their ears....just to avoid going NUTZO.....and with good reason. Similarly, this is why everyone living in Thailand should consider having one room in the house to escape to when the noise outside the house becomes utterly intolerable. In most cases, it's possible to build one of these Quiet Rooms for not much investment. In areas with severe noise, then one might need to dig a cellar, which could double as a wine cellar. But, normally, there is no need to go to these lengths. Are you one of these people who demand a Quiet Room, and prefer a Quiet Room...over a Room With a View? Because, I certainly am this type of person. I have often dreamed about having just one room in my house that is almost completely quiet, no matter what is going on outside. And, fortunately, I now have one. Or, I will have one, once I put up some heavier drapes. Fortunately, the room, as it is, is already quite quiet, and I hear almost no noise from outside after about 8:00PM. Once I add heavy drapes, then all will be quiet as a mouse....or hopefully quieter....Some rats are rather noisy, as you know. So here is an example of both a Quiet Room and also a Room With a View.... Which is best for you? Listen, Guys...Please Listen! Protect your Sanity! Prioritize a Quiet Room, please. How much is Sanity really worth to you, anyway??? Best regards, Gamma

Why are most movies released post-2000 unwatchable?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Entertainment
Yes. I completely agree with you about Chomsky at 94-95. Although, we sometimes read about various health issues, unfortunately. And, you are correct that this is one fine interview, and quite rare for an interviewer such as Piers. I commend him for doing such an excellent job. Chomsky, as you say, is also correct in providing the history of wokism, which helps put the modern misunderstandings into better prospective. Great Interview. I did enjoy it, much. -
Australian Tourist Crashes Pickup Truck into Pattaya Drugstore
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
May not have been just alcohol which led to this property destruction. My guess is that it must have been hanky-panky which caused the truck to suddenly veer off the road. -
Elon Musk at Trump rally and TSLA share price

Trump is too tall, standing at 6 ft 3 in.... He could do with some shortening, for sure. -

I think that most following the progress of this race is rather surprised to see Trump doing as well as seems to be the case. It's going to get much more interesting in another week....predictably...

Nice piece of propaganda, for sure.

Anyway, it is not important for Trump to last 4 years. I am actually for VANCE..... He is the best on sale, among the 4 available, this year. I prefer YALE MEN....!!!!! I do not want a Prez with an average IQ....for sure. I want someone smarter than XiJinPing, and all the rest of those Dictators. If Trump leaves office early, all the better, AFTER he is elected.

I have found that very few opinions expressed here are entirely objective. -

I totally AGREE with your assessment! In fact, I agree with Chomsky concerning this misunderstanding of Wokism, which you here point out. One of the very best vids concerning Wokism was actually done by, most surprisingly, Piers Morgan when he recorded this interview with Noam. Definitely worth watching !!! And, this is a side of Piers that we see just too infrequently. He actually asks good questions, and let's Noam respond, in full, without cutting him off. Wokism is completely misunderstood by the average uneducated American, seemingly. Wish more Americans would watch this....!!!! -
After over a decade in Thailand, this trip, I have yet to see a ping-pong game. Is this type of entertainment still in vogue, and cheap? Or; here in Thailand, are new games, even cheaper forms of entertainment, and other diversions replacing the age-old game of Ping-Pong? How often do you watch Ping-Pong? What kinds of other games similar to Ping-Pong might i watch, if I decide that the game of Ping-Pong might not be for me? Thank you. Gamma

I am not sure what this Topic is doing in the Entertainment section??? Obviously, this Topic belongs in the Sociology section, for which it was originally intended. Hopefully, someone will move this Topic back, after the Sociology section has been created. Or, next time I will label the Topic, relevant to Cultural Anthropology, just so nobody gets confused. -
I take it, then, that you agree with the mainstream view concerning the validity of The Theory of Evolution? The Big Question is whether or not Trump understands how Evolution actually works. Or, does Trump not know, from a deeper biological perspective, how he actually arrived here on planet Earth to become the next president of The United States?

Expats in Thailand urged not to worry about negative income tax
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How are they going to tax my negative income....anyway? -
I think he is referring to the infamous landslides which affected the illegal Mainland-Chinese aliens in Hong Kong during the 1960s, and before. These were similar to the landslide which caused the death of Suzie Wong's baby. Truly heartbreaking!

Speaking of wallpaper in the WH master bedroom... I just hope that it doesn't turn out looking like this:

I think you mean distraction, and not deflection. Or, you might also use the phrase, sleight of hand ...

Windows 10 support ends in a year . . .
GammaGlobulin replied to BigStar's topic in IT and Computers
This would be the best decision you could possibly make. Mint is fine, I guess, if you prefer that flavor. However, my heart belongs to OpenSUSE 15.6, and the lizard. Either way is good, as long as it's Linux. You will not be sorry for dumping Windows. I dumped Windows, completely, several months ago. Best decision I have made during the past 5 years. Years ago, I used Linux, exclusively, and only installed Windows for a specific purpose. Now, there seems to be no reason not to use OpenSUSE. I am still extremely happy with it. In fact, it just gets better...and....BETTER. -
Seriously, I actually HAVE lived in the USA for decades. But, only just barely.
-
YES! A landslide, as I say... But, the real culpability for this debacle lies with the Democrats. Mostly, this is about transformation of the culture of the changing majority in the US. We have been watching this day approach for decades... Nothing new to see, really...is there?
