Dear Folks, I love cats, and have owned a few in my time. Here in Asia, there are cats, aplenty. I guess you may have been rather impressed by the sheer number of cats roaming around at night, compared to what you were probably used to, back home. We know the advantages of keeping cats in one’s house, but did you know that there are concomitant risks, as well, with either keeping cats or associating with cats? And, did you know that there can be problems associated with keeping cats near your bed? I am not speaking of typical diseases that everyone knows about, such as rabies. I am talking about a relatively little known disease that can lead to craziness! Yes, it is possible for cats to drive a man crazy. And even a few famous people have been driven crazy by cats, too. Here is an abstract that explains this, quite succinctly: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-86811-6_4 In years gone by, even Jonathan Swift wrote about this thing called: “The English Malady”. And, please do not think that this same malady cannot happen to you. You can read about it in this book, in fact: And, you can read about it for free at this link: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-86811-6_4 Here in Thailand, I try to stay clear of cats, as you know. I am OK with watching them roam around at night, but I become more wary when they approach me. Here is why: I do not know why Jonathan Swift wrote about this thing with cats called, “the English malady”, but he did. Personally, I am not worried about this or rabies, either. I keep up-to-date with my rabies booster, at regular intervals. Cats are lots of fun, but there are risks to cat ownership. Just my two-cents about cats…… Best regards, Gamma Note: I have lived most of my life with cats, and I have not suffered many ill-effects, to speak of. Note2: Of course, nobody likes when they howl and yowl at night, but that cannot be helped. My advice, these days, is to just keep your distance; and...just live and let live. I am fully up-to-date with my rabies vaccinations which I received at a very reasonable cost from the local hospital. But of course, rabies vax will not protect you from the madness written about in the literature of old.

At your age: Do you still take life seriously?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Correct, but I did not forget to mention it; I just ran out of space in the OP...before I could add this important link: "The Remains of the Day", which is really the theme of this Topic.... Here is the link, since you asked....: And, does the conclusion of this important film resonate with you, at your age? Also, one should pay more attention to Barth, the author, when he writes about COSMOPSIS: And, I too.... The images of End of the Road have stuck with me, as well, since my college days. So hard to shed, in fact.... -
At your age: Do you still take life seriously?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Only serious if it is serious in the eye of the beholder, naturally. Personally, I think it's fairly serious, but, still, not TOO serious for TV. What is YOUR opinion? -
Dear Folks, a. At your age, do you still take life seriously? Really? Give me a break! Or…Do you really? b. In this day and age, do we really still take the Nobel seriously? Really? Give me a break! c. Maybe Dylan actually did deserve the Nobel, as watered down as it seems to have become, in these modern times. He wrote this, for example: d. So, do you still take life seriously, now that most of your life is already behind you, and now that all that you see ahead is what it is? If you were to try to tell someone, less than half your age, why they should take life seriously, then could you? e. AND, are you a phony like Zimmerman? Or, are you now able to see through him, as no Nobel Committee ever did? Strange, is it not, how time passes….? So the question is, in this twilight of your years, is there really anything that you take seriously, besides Catch-22? Catch-22 always catches up with one, around this time in life…don’t you think? No. We don’t take life seriously, And why should we now? At least, most of us do not, but do you? Best regards, And wishing you great “Remains of the Day”…. Gamma Note: Some day, I will find my perfect washing machine, just as Hemingway never found his perfect paragraph, before it’s too late. And, then…who knows…. Note2: And…What about you? And, just by the way: Note 66: Do you intend to continue flying missions? Final Note: Obviously, when we die, the question always begs and niggles us.... Will We go FURTHUR? Or, will our bus, inevitably reach.... The End Of The Road....

What about this Samsung Washing Machine? Should one buy it?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in General Topics
So then... Stick with Samsung? Actually, I now tend to agree with you, quite wholeheartedly.... But this time, I might change vendors.... After much research...I would guess that Samsung is still... The best machine for the money...at this present time. I just need to find the right supplier, and start over again... What a waste of time.... 16Kg model is still good. Sort of the Goldilocks size for me. Not too big, and not too small. Tks for your input. Will keep you posted...if....which I doubt... You might be interested in this,... By next week. Note: After this recent purchasing experience, I am about ready to throw in the towel....but into which machine? -
What about this Samsung Washing Machine? Should one buy it?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in General Topics
Due to a very sudden and serendipitous circumstance beyond my control, I seem to have been very recently compelled to opt out of the Samsung washing-machine choice I made earlier this week. Therefore, I am now considering upping the ante in order to buy a slightly pricier washing machine of no specific brand, as a replacement. Therefore: a. If I were to increase my budget to Bt.12000.00 for a top loader, and… b. If I were willing to accept any brand available in the local market, then… c. What might be the very best top-loader I should consider? I don’t know whether or not you have ever heard of the internet site, ‘Thaiger Live’, but here they discuss this very topic. https://talk.thethaiger.com/topic/2221-the-8-best-washing-machines-of-2021/ I would say that their suggestions might be a bit outdated by now. And, in light of this, I would ask the members: If someone gave you Bt.12,000 to buy a top-loading washing machine, then what, exactly, would you buy? Thank you, in advance…. 16Kg capacity might be a real plus for some types of bulky bedding.... Gamma Thank you, guys! -
School Van Accident in Northern Thailand Takes Young Student's Life
GammaGlobulin replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
You know, just from my own personal perspective, as one who truly cares about education..... I do wonder how many Top-of-The-Line school buses one might be able to negotiate with a US school-bus manufacturer, for the price of JUST ONE of these F16 fighter aircraft? How many school buses could one buy with the money needed to purchase and maintain just one BLOCK 70? All we know is that the Lockheed Martin aircraft is very "COST-EFFECTIVE"..... My guess is that it might be possible to buy...about....MANY school buses for the price of buying and maintaining just one Lockheed Martin....at USD63 million, plus maintenance, and plus pilot training.... Still, just one school bus is not so exciting as an F16..... And, compared to the fighter? The school bus is just too boring.... There is really no comparison for guys making the purchasing decisions... It's just a matter of GUNS or BUTTER.... Why buy a school bus when fighter aircraft are just tooo Sexy? -
School Van Accident in Northern Thailand Takes Young Student's Life
GammaGlobulin replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Great Company!!!! I think this company might also manufacture Top-Of-The-Line FIRE ENGINES, too! But, if I were issuing a major contract for 20,000 school buses, then I think I might opt for one of these.... I have such fond memories of waiting for the school bus at the corner, when I was in elementary school. But then, when I got my license to drive, I chose a different mode of transportation.... And what would school-transport be without a 426 cubic Hemi? Please Note: Always drive safely... -

If you look at the article that I linked, you will see that much more driver training is required for US school-bus drivers. The US recognizes that further driver training will be required to decrease fatalities. -

The point is... If you look closely, it seems that the bus in the photo might be some sort of old bus which has now been repurposed as a barber shop. So, this is why I like this photo for this article. It says to me: Children's lives are more important than having one's hair cut at a barber shop. And also, it says that there is enough money to buy better school buses, if only we would choose to allocate the required funding. It would be better to do without certain luxuries in order to redirect spending to providing children with safer transport to their schools. So, a very good image, IMHO... -
Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand

They just lie flat. I think, given the world situation that young people today face, there are many who will be bugging out, even without thought to the future...since there is, very likely, no future ahead for anyone. Young people realize this, even better than older generations. There is no longer any point in many of the institutions that older people and earlier generations once held sacred. The end is nigh... And, many more people are going to just drop out of society. How can you blame them? -

What about this Samsung Washing Machine? Should one buy it?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in General Topics
So, I think you mean this one... These specs rarely say where the machines are made. Also, if it it says made in some country, no doubt the parts are produced in many places, and mostly China. It would be best to buy everything needed on the Japanese market. The quality is in Japan. -

If sometimes higher than 60-degree C, then maybe we are back to the good old days.... Those were the days... When clothes were really clean. === If in a hospital setting, then maybe... In the future, I will wash at over 50-degrees C. Makes sense.... -
What about this Samsung Washing Machine? Should one buy it?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in General Topics
Maybe this depends upon the type of detergent used? I really have no idea... But then, there is this.... So, as you say... Washing at 40-degrees C or higher is better for stain removal. I will remember that, and I will need to add hot water to the wash cycle... Or, I will need to wash my clothes during the Hot Season, at 3:00 PM. https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/washing-machines/article/washing-machine-temperature-guide-aLiyf2p96y4d#benefits-of-washing-at-30c https://cwservicesinc.com/cold-water-does-it-clean-your-clothes/ So in conclusion, just choose the correct detergent for the water temperature you are using.... And wash happily. Certainly, Thailand's climate will provide water at a good temperature for effectively washing clothes. -
If you mean, by a reputable quote, The Washington Post, this article you linked is behind a paywall. Therefore, the link that you provided is not accessible to many. Just post the facts, or a link to the facts. If you think that you need to have a teaching moment to instruct others concerning propaganda, persuasion, belief, and the media, then please feel free, but it's not necessary. Nobody here screwed up, and no one here was attempting to distract from the facts. Also, nobody here has much of an interest in who wins in 2024. The only problem is that people like Harris and Walz, through their obviously self-serving ways, have made the world worse for everybody. You can be sure that, if not Walz or Harris, at least someone of their ilk will get elected. And, we will be back to square one, in Janaury 2025. Trump or Harris? Both are fine with me. They will make zero difference in the grand scheme of things. They will be gone after a brief moment, and will be forgotten, soon enough. Fortunately, I do not live in the USA. The ONLY time I see any news about these two clowns is here on this sub-forum. You have a house in the USA.... You are the one that must live with them... Not I... Enjoy...!

Just post the evidence, please. Post his record. And, show his place of birth, too. Maybe he was born in Canada, for example. I do not trust the guy. He seems a phony. His main appeal is to the farmers in the mid-west and to the so-called "salt of the earth". I like people who are intelligent. I like city people, too. Especially people from Boston.

Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He's probably here,... Somewhere It would have been easy to just exit the airport doors, and continue walking in almost any direction. Norway is very sparsely populated, and this time of year the climate is good for camping. If I were he, I would just take the supplies I could carry in a backpack, and leave the world, with its troubles, behind. We all know that young people, today, and around the world, especially in China, are choosing to Lie Flat, and the Lying Flat Movement is all about no marriage, no job, no house, and no children to care for. I believe that this is a possibility. Sometimes, the stress of society becomes too much for any thinking individual to bear. (Speaking of Bears, I happen to know that part of the woods has bears, very close to Helsinki: ) -
a. Linux, and the use of Linux, especially for the desktop, is logical, and a rational choice. b. In Thailand, for most Farang, choosing a ladyboy for a change of pace seems illogical, and an irrational choice. c. I would not compare the two experiences, in fact. Linux is a much better user experience compared to Windows OS. The Thai Ladyboy often provides a less than optimal user experience, but just judging from the plethora of data gleaned from the Thaivisa forum. There is really no comparing Linux to a Ladyboy, nor bananas to peaches.
