  1. Most have boyfriends unfortunately. well yes, as i'm sure you'd be first on their dating list if they were single ????
  2. a friend just told me if you have covid in denmark you can stay in a covid hotel pid for by the government. now there's an initiative that would support tourism
  3. OP your observation could be a result of the environment and individuals you associate with. my thai friends are generally well educated (at universities in thailand and abroad), professional, many widely travelled and mostly read books in both thai and english. many of my friends have children at school and university and they too read books in thai and english, often asking me to recommend books. there is a wonderful thailand out there, just get out of the bar!
  4. having traveled widely i can say islamic countries are by far the most hospitable, and of those iran and pakistan would top my list
  5. just head over to their place, eat and drink all you can lay your hands on, load up any items lying around you like the look of, and head home.
  6. is there any hard evidence that any seven day period is overwhelmingly more dangerous than the norm? surely what's needed is preventative action 365 days a year.
  7. City Hall is calling for cooperation from motorists to comply with traffic regulations such as speed limits and other road safety rules, including refraining from driving under the influence. that'll do. job done. back to facebook.
  8. mandatory health insurance for foreigners in thailand is a long held ambition of the authorities due to their obsession with a foreigner being unable to pay their hospital bill (a massive over reaction to a very small problem considering the income generated through tourism). if policies are being accepted by the authorities that dont provide cover for long stay, and therefore potentially expensive, quarantine or hospital bills due to covid they will potentially face the same problem with foreigners being unable to pay their bills... the solution doesn't fix the problem.
  9. this is not a thai phenomenon, just look at the number of westerners who get into trouble in thailand and have to resort to crowd funding for financial help - neither themselves, their friends or families have emergency funding.
  10. i work on the principle that as foreigners we're granted a certain leniency with thai customs, as we would extend to foreigners in our own country. i don't get it right all the time but i am always relaxed, calm, polite and friendly , and i've never had any issues. if my wife's boss came to my home back home i'd extend a hand for a handshake of greeting. so in thai land, if i had a thai wife(!), i'm be more than happy to welcome her boss with a wai.
  11. i guess the sad thing is these second hand japanese cast offs are a step up from thailand's current rolling stock...
  12. this is a bit of an eye opener, that someone who is a chef, a decent enough job, has worked 60 hours a week all summer and yet after paying for his holiday in thailand has zero assets in thailand or back home. and his family and friends have no assets either. a lesson for us all, financial planning is important because you never know what's going to happen.
