Reform UK Overtakes Tories in Polls for the First Time
Smokey and the Bandit replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I sense a degree of sarcasm in your comment, however you may not so far from the truth? -
"Singapore Airlines offers $10,000 compensation to those injured in turbulence flight" "The airline noted it provided all passengers with S$1,000 (US$739) each “to meet their immediate expenses upon departure from Bangkok”, and that it had also been covering the medical expenses of the injured passengers, and arranged for their family members and loved ones to fly up to Bangkok where requested." https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/11/singapore-airlines-compensation-turbulence-injuries-sq321

Who's going to the Philippines then?
Smokey and the Bandit replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I sense a modicum of sarcasm in your comment, but one of the advantages of the Philippines is that they do all speak English, admittedly with an accent, but everyone has an accent! This means doing anything at Government offices, like immigration is much easier, all the forms are in English and they can speak English, no need to take a local or wife with you, that has to be good! -
" Like traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals that can lead to diseases such as cancer, coronary stenosis, and emphysema. In response to numerous complaints from parents, the minister has directed state agencies to take legal action against vendors. " So why aren't they cracking down on traditional cigarettes???

Black Men Sue American Airlines for Racial Discrimination

I wonder if they had removed 8 white people, would they have pursued a lawsuit? -
Black Men Sue American Airlines for Racial Discrimination

Wouldn't it be better to wait for the investigation, to see what actually transpired, before jumping to conclusions? Surely you need to hear from both sides? -
Black Men Sue American Airlines for Racial Discrimination
Smokey and the Bandit replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Have we got the full story here? Many times there are underlying reasons that only come to the surface later. It seems odd , but the lawsuit claiming................"The lawsuit describes the profound embarrassment, humiliation, anxiety, anger, and distress the men experienced throughout the flight, especially during interactions with the white male flight attendant and navigating past predominantly white passengers who eyed them with suspicion and anger. It has been turned into a race issue, which is typical in the USA when they might be another explanation? -
BREAKING NEWS ANOTHER Flight hit by turbulence - 12 injured
Smokey and the Bandit replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Turbulence when flying can occur anywhere. If its weather related. like T-storms the pilot can see them with weather radar and steer around them. If its CAT they cannot be seen or detected, but aircraft flying the same route can issue an advisory and warn other aircraft. Normally turbulence, like flying thu clouds, is not that bad, just bumpy, but as we have seen turbulence, though rare, can be dangerous, always keep your seat belt fastened, even loosely, when seated! -
As you say the passengers that were 'belted up' all seems OK physically at least, maybe scared but not damaged, the un belted ones were the ones that had severe injuries. Singapore Airlines has been one of the best airlines in the world for many years, same as its airport, they have a reputation to uphold.I would be very surprised if they did not pay for all the hospital bills of the injured. Apparently this 'turbulence' occurred very quickly and its not clear if the seat belt signs were on or not, if they had just came on, usually the cabin crew check to ensure the passengers are all belted up. I have flown SIA many times and I would have to say they are one the most professional airlines and cabin/flight crew out there!

Correct, clear air turbulence is difficult to detect, planes flying thru it would report to other aircraft the location as an advisory. According to CNN it may have been a rapidly developing thunderstorm. "The FlightRadar24 data show the flight, which was cruising at 37,000 feet, suddenly dipping then rapidly climbing a few hundred feet before dipping and climbing again and then finally settling back at its cruising altitude. The entire disruption took about 90 seconds, according to the data, but resulted in dozens of injuries, including a fatality. The flight likely encountered rapidly developing thunderstorms over southern Myanmar on Tuesday during the time that extreme turbulence was reported, according to CNN Weather analysis. The analysis of satellite data shows an area of developing thunderstorms over the Irrawaddy Delta between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. GMT (early afternoon local time). This corresponds to the same time and location reported by the airline and independent data analysis of the flight track from FlightRadar24." https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/21/world/singapore-airlines-turbulence-bangkok/index.html
