Everything that's wrong with EVs ... an endless list
KhunLA replied to KhunLA's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
good reason not to buy, and if I lived in Bangkok, that would probably be about 10k less kms a year on our EV also. Only use for stocking up once a month at Makro & for O&As. And zero on the MB. When we visit Krung Thep area, we rarely drive our car. Public trans is just too convenient. If close to hotel, less than one kms, (bus if further) we'll just walk, faster & easier usually, since little to no parking. -

Still pushing that silliness. This thread was made for you. Actually impress how reasonable most of the posts have been ... ... until now 😎 -
I've never leased a car long term, and only know one person who has, and only as it was a good business deduction, since self employed. Never understood the leasing thing, unless you traded in your care every 2 or 3 yrs, and certainly not most people that I know. Financially not practical for most.

I guessing they are recalls where the car had to be taken in for an adjustment or replace a part. Not a simple OTA software update. Since a 'recall', probably has something to do with safety, as some aspect, if failing, could become an issue in a certain circumstance. EX: seat belt or airbag failure in a collision, maybe not actually affecting driving, until. -

I thought bring airplanes into an EV discussion was a bit too obvious. But I'll work one it 👍 -

Tell me about it, though really nice, and few kms away is Ban Krut beach. Here's the plus of owning the EV for us, as we go there once every week or 2. If owning an ICEV, we probably wouldn't bother, as the petrol would end up costing more than the meal. They make a nice green curry & roti, along w/smoothies & pastries. And a lovely setting. The EV gets us out of the house so much more than the ICEV did. Any trip under 250 kms R/T is basically free transport w/solar vs 500-600 baht, depending on petrol price. The other best spot I like is the other direction, and about 30 minutes away. Awesome pandan pancakes: -

I was being sarcastic, to my knowledge, none, most of the OTA/Over The Air updated would stop you from operating the car, I don't think. Though may make the driver assist functions perform better, possibly safer, if you even use them. Ours is simply a media player update, I think. Has nothing to do with any aspect of actually driving or driver assist apps. -

Agree, but I'm not going to walk 14 hrs to my favorite coffee shop/restaurant, when I can be there in less than an hour if I drive ... 😂 Point taken though. I used to razz the wife, as she drove to the park to exercise, less than 1 kms away, instead of riding her bike. After pointing out the hypocrisy, she changed her ways. -

along with being plugged into a heating element overnight and preferably in a garage if wanting to start the next day, or after a few hours at the pub/restaurant. Not an endorsement for drunk driving. -

That was sarcasm ... as to me, a 'recall' is something the may make the car unsafe to drive, not the ability to use an app that has nothing do do with driving. But just the options. Reply in reference to the silly notion that one agency stated Tesla is the most recalled vehicle, but includes OTA updates as a recall. Totally ridiculous, as my thoughts of not diving because I can't listen to EC on sound system if not using Gplay. -

For our ZS, as I stated, it's an Google play update, so we can use Google apps on the multi media screen, I think, and has nothing to do with the performance of the car. I guess we could listen to music (which we do now via bluetooth, I think) or even watch a vid. Maybe have Gmap on the bigger screen instead of just my phone, a bit redundant, and then the other, vehicle info wouldn't be available at a glance. -

You seriously didn't know why planes fly at higher altitudes ? Actually, if your car is tuned properly for colder air, it may run more efficient. -

If people consider OTA software updates a recall, then EVs certainly are a POS. Our MG ZS has one of those recalls, for the past 6 months or more. So we haven't driven it, as I haven't done the update/recall yet. How can I drive a vehicle that I can't use all the functions of Google or Apple play properly until updated. It's nothing but a 1750 kg road hazard that sits at our carport. 😂 -

That really does come down to one's driving style and patience level ... ... while O&A Reality is, they will spend a lot more time topping up their ICEV at the stations weekly/monthly than total time spent spent yearly topping up the EV at CSs while O&A. Location dependent of course. Half our kms (10k of 20k) last year in our BEV were O&A, and not an inconvenience at all, topping up. A true pleasure never having to make a special trip to top up the BEF weekly at the station, vs owning the ICEV. Since the petrel station wasn't on our regular driving routes, and actually a bit out of the way (5 or 7 kms away), considering TH's U-turns on roads. -

A few of us have MGs. Myself the ZS, and quite like it. I think every BEV & Hybrid has been mentioned by AN members owning. No major complaints. Just a few annoyances, most driver assist features, that can be turned off. BYDs new offerings seem to be the flavor of the new year. -

Owned more than a few nice ICEVs myself. No regrets there, though can't say I'd ever need or buy another. Highly doubtful after owning an EV. Maybe if I didn't live in TH. Not sure what the CS network is in the USA, and if there, that would be the deciding factor. As if there, I'd probably be very nomadic. Spend most of my nights sleeping in National Parks probably, hopefully some kind of RV, preferably all electric (EV & Solar powered w/ESS). Hang out in the South during winter, and North during summer. -
Australia vs America
KhunLA replied to still kicking's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
That's quite the silly article, with no info about who, what & where, those 'voting' are. Just some random Reddit post 😂 This being the only true stat, and with that, it's obvious, a larger percentage of Aussies prefer the USA, than Yanks preferring OZ. Those that obviously have lived in both. ... "Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows that there are almost 110,000 US-born residents in Australia while US Census Bureau data estimate that there are 97,800 Australians in the US." Per capita that is, and that doesn't include the 10-20M illegal immigrants in USA: 0.032844 % of Yanks prefer OZ 0.036243 % or Aussies prefer USA Haven't been to OZ, but don't think I'd enjoy it as much as USA. Too man venomous snakes, crocs, and white shark. Though California & Florida seem to be bite capitals of the world many years. Landscape isn't diverse enough either to be interesting long term. Got Penguins though 👍 -

You obviously didn't read the article. So an OTA / software update is considered a recall .... 😂 From the link: ... "Does that mean it considers OTAs (Over The Air updates) as recalls? It does if NHTSA calls it a recall." -

Far from it ... just the trolls, or idiots if the shoe fits. Is it really that hard to stay on topic, at least close to the topic. I'm impressed with the posts on this thread already. None of the hater BS, and some decent posts with real concerns. No what ifs, not false info, no silly vids from EV/CH haters. Kudos 👍 Here's an example of silliness ... ... Aussie Rugby forum, and talking about the finals ... I come along and state ... Why do you people watch pro sports. In the USA pro Football is fixed, and if you want to know who's going to win the game, just watch the Vegas betting spreads. 😂 Welcome to TH EV threads ....
