  1. Because the badge came with the car. Could be call Mao's Buggy for all I care. The day I'm impressed with the name or origin of a product, I'll stop shopping. And your car ... you have my condolences ... ???? You may get there quicker than me, driving the speed limit, but I'll take the comfort & savings over sitting in that thing, for hours on end. Plus I think I would need a roof rack.
  2. If you can't afford an MG, you certainly can't afford a Haval H6. MG's start <฿600k You can buy 2 MGs, Extender/truck (฿549) & MG5 (฿585) for starting price of Havel H6 (฿1.249M). Haval Jolion is about ฿900k On topic, as they are Chinese.
  3. No production in the UK, just the HQ @ Longbridge: "Development MG vehicles were primarily designed in United Kingdom between 2005 and 2019, with a reduced UK input since then. MG Motor UK HQ–SAIC UK Technical & Design Centre Longbridge has been retained and Research and Development is currently undertaken at the Longbridge Facility, with Longbridge being home to SMTC (SAIC Motor Technical Centre), which has significant design and engineering input into SAIC products globally. MG has headquarters in United Kingdom, with production in China, Thailand (from 2016) and India (since 2019) but the primary design was held at the Longbridge, Birmingham headquarter." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_Motor
  4. Nobody buys a vehicle because they think it's British. And nobody thinks MGs are British, unless living under that rock in a cave. They do keep the 'design' office open in the UK, but as far as anyone knows, could just be warehouse now for paperwork ???? All companies have an HQ somewhere... ... globalization make the location a bit of a mute subject. Anti MG & CH, ... and ... you drive a Celerio ???? Let that sink in ...
  5. By buying MG, they bought the distribution network, factories (though closed) and not so much the 'reputation' as that was tarnished enough. with no bragging rights ... IMHO Matter of fact, as stated before, when MG3s started showing up here, I was actually in the market, and thought, no way, not knowing old 'MG' had nothing to do with them, except maybe design. Did take a peek, inexpensive at the time, and you get what you pay for, and on par with the other inexpensive cars that I wouldn't buy; Celerio, Swift, March, Mirage, Varis & Vios, which we previously owned, and wouldn't buy again. Went with Mazda 2 at the time, which, I also wouldn't buy again. As you know, went with MG ZS after the M2. Only other cars in the running then, 2020, were Jazz, or Nissan Note (ugly dash & new model) but once test driving the ZS, there's really no reason to go back to the substandard ride & comfort level they offered. Thankfully the Chinese do a much better job than previous MG owners/makers.
  6. Next time you stroll by a local bus terminal, take a peek at some of the tires on the buses. Definitely give you a pause for thought. Was in a bus to CM that had a front blow out ... no drama, just came to a rolling stop (at night) but was the last interprovince bus I ever rode in.
  7. Let me know when you hear someone say "Did you see that Great Wall, that's a nice looking car" Selling to an international market, maybe you want them to use Chinese script also.
  8. If meaning the length of the rear overhang vs front, along with short wheelbase, then yea, that doesn't look right at all. No wonder driver lost control with a rear blow out. Looking a bit more normal:
  9. Not necessarily, especially if full size (700mm/26"), with quality components, display & most important, battery. You can buy DECO 1000w registered motorcycle for less than most 500-750-1000w full size ebikes. Although I have to say, I do enjoy riding my ebike, as much or more than my motorcycle. Just can't go as far (full electric) or take the dog with me, with the ebike.
  10. Yes, one does need to choose wisely at night markets, or any market area. Only eat (if there) food that is prepared fresh and in front of me. If not, then it gets microwaved at home. I like my hot...hot, and cold ... cold. Personally, I'm not into the super large night markets, just overkill for me. Udon Thani's 3 markets are easily walkable, and have plenty of food varietie, and enough competition, doing the same. I don't need 10 or 20 vendors making the same thing, 2 or 3 is more than enough. Cheaper because of their stall rental overhead, is far cheap than a brick & mortar building. With the huge traffic, if good, then can make profit on volume sales vs higher prices.
  11. Suspect a bit loss in translation, as not an industrial park, just 'their factory'. Also MG doesn't have a large worldwide market share ... ... yet. Not even available in most countries.
  12. 75 rai, that's a huge plot of land. Nice "addition" to the huge facilities they already have here: "Spanning across an area of over 437.5 rais, the manufacturing facility has a maximum production capacity of 100,000 units per year. At present, over 300 rais of the entire area is being used" https://www.nationthailand.com/pr-news/more/pr-news/40027157 If in Pattaya, it would encompass this size area, 437.5 rai.
  13. Every station I've seen is getting that major upgrade. They sure are expecting the 'Riviera' promo to take off, and million of tourist to flood in and use the rail lines down here. I've seen many of the RR stations between HH & Chumphon. Some stations are 2 to 10 times larger than previously, with more than a few 'extra' buildings, looking like housing, and rather nice. Some lost their 'traditional' look, but that's progress, I suppose.
  14. One would hope not, as they have a bit of explaining with their latest oops. https://www.nationthailand.com/business/automobile/40027402 And MGs have been around for about 10 yrs in TH alone, not sure about other markets. SAIC one of largest car manufacturer, also been around for a while, so fairly solid track record. " MG production restarted in 2007 in China" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_Cars "SAIC’s MG brand, which entered the Thai market in 2013, has become an increasingly popular brand among Thai customers. As of April, MG brand’s total sales in Thailand notched up more than 173,000 vehicles. Last year alone, SAIC Motor-CP manufactured and sold about 32,000 whole vehicles - making it one of SAIC’s major overseas production and sales bases. In 2022, SAIC saw its sales in overseas markets reach over 1 million vehicles, ranking top among Chinese carmakers for the seventh consecutive year and marking the company becoming the first domestic automaker to achieve this milestone." https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230509123705973 SAIC: "Founded in 1955, it is currently the largest of the "Big Four" state-owned car manufacturers of China," https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAIC_Motor MODS: apologies, as didn't realize the shortened version was considered a slur. THANKS ... Need to update my 'woke dictionary'
  15. Hey ... what up with that ???? And women also, as most riders I see when I'm out on mine are chickies, and a few men. And yes, you would charge those at home, with many having removable batterie to do if live in condo or apt. They come in all size and prices. Much cheaper to maintain & operate than petrol MBs
  16. I lived there for 16 yrs. Guess you don't follow the news much. Nothing new about UT, and it's always been one of the largest metro areas in TH. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2030863/two-killed-5-injured-in-udon-knife-attacks Have a nice day. Models 59 (?) He also owned 'Sister's', I think.
  17. UT has had it's share of westerners killed, and at least 1, doing the killing. Plenty of violence in UT adult area. One bar owner was notorious for starting fights, until his 'back up' passed away. Another expat was also well known for starting fights when he was on the streets. Along with the motorcycle gangs at night, mugging people, that took PoPo a while to catch up to, finally. I lived there for 16 yrs, take the rose tinted glasses off. Plenty of good things about UT, but also, like any metro, plenty of not so good. Both sides, opinions/experiences are good to have for people deciding to visit or live there ... ....or not.
  18. Have you naysayers actually tried to socialize with the local gals outside of the P4P venues/sois/adult entertainment areas. You may be surprised, or not.
  19. For me, birthday was Dec 23, DL expired Dec 31, renewed Jan 4th. No issues renewing, even though DL expired. I believe the DL is good till end of your birthday month. Expiration date is on DL. Always best to call or pop into you local DLT and simply ask.
  20. A bit more than 30 kms from downtown (Central Plaza), but agree, some nice hills & roads in NW part of province. Na Yung area, south of Nam Son, is quite nice also.
  21. Agree, and why I stopped visiting, as it declined so fast when I lived there. Bangla rd ... ask the locals, and they'd be very happy to see it shut down, as a stain (new favorite expression) on the family beach resort town. Have a nice day
  22. Guidelines are kind of irrelevant, as rarely do the best movies & actors win the awards anyway. Quite the PC mess, and always has been. Simply now, it's an official PC mess.
  23. Did they close down the cow shed / Day & Night, along with the massage places ? Gmap still shows it as open. I do see the new hotels, and a step in the right direction. That soi is a stain on the city, and should be moved elsewhere. Take a clue from the locals, and put the adult entertainment out of main downtown. It's embarrassing ...
