Are jeans and chinos adapted to Thailand ?
KhunLA replied to Baron Samedi's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The only time I wear long pants (not heavy jeans), is for mozzy protection, or doing visa extension. Rarely cool enough locally (PKK) to where jeans, only if out & about up N or NE. -
That applies to the stock market also, and it's all a perceived value. If you hold a stock, and that company goes bankrupt, actually folds, you would be left with 0. I've seen it happen. NWA a prime example, even though DL acquired them, the stock had no value, if not sold on the rumor of buyout. You lost all.

As long as TH has uncontrolled flooding every year, don't think lack of water will ever be a problem. If they run out during dry season some year, they might simply start managing wet season better.... .... until then ... oh well. We will go into dry season with enough rainwater collected to actually hold us over till rainy season if ever needed.

Their rough guess now is 1°C over the 1-200 yrs. That gives them more than a few generations to sort things out. Not a believer of MMCG myself. Warming, yes, it's natural occurrence, historically, tops out at a couple more degrees before the big chill starts. Something that actually should be more of a concern. Actually, I'd be more concerned about the water table, and supply of 'affordable' drinking water. But then, as it is now, it will simply go to those, that the elite decide are worthy enough to have. If not servicing them, and providing food, we, well, not me, some folks, wouldn't even be allotted that. Take Africa for instance, and how many die are allowed to die every year from no clean drinking water. Don't contribute = no clean water for you. Why waste the resources. ????

Most trustworthy person I know. Plays the same #s every 20 draws, which I check every now & then. Use to be a site that sold them, at 3x the cost, but don't think allowed anymore. Won $4 dollars last month ... I can retire in style now. $6 a week, 1 set of #s drawn 3X a week. On a 1 mill win, $500k cash to winner, 50k to him or more, as he set the 10%, I was happy with 50%. Really haven't a clue what would change much if winning the 1 mill, just more for wife & kid after I <deleted> out. $450 = 17+ m THB. Buy a nice condo riverside in Krung Thep, or dock a sailboat at Phuket. If winning a big one, then I'd probably go nomadic, and live in hotels around the world, till bored, but realistically, give most of it away. Some of those jackpots are ridiculous huge. $50k to a few friends (5 maybe), and 1 mill to 1 other brother. More than enough, and doesn't need it anyway. But he'd give it to his kids ???? who also don't need it, but would be nice of course. Options to stop working, 2 would, 1 wouldn't (doc). Don't really get along with my other brother. Except for a few frivolous purchases, I really wouldn't have much use for more than a couple mill, at 67, and already done most things I've wanted. Travelling First Class would be frivolous enough, till bored.

Yea, the heavy jeans don't get much wear here, unless up N or NE in cool seasons. More relevant ... boxers - briefs - or native. Use to be native or boxers, but now, in TH, it's briefs. Keeping things close, less contact, less friction, less sweat ... ???? And that collared shirt (I rarely do Ts), not buttoned or tucked in, unless heading indoors to a business. Never go without a shirt, bit of a fur ball at times ????, but can get way with the unbuttoned shirt, as surfside, and playing tourist. Need that air circulating when walking. If on the scooter, button the bottom button, and it forces the air around my back. Makes a huge difference staying cool. Waiting for rainy season to kick in again. The early blasts were great for the AQI, now need a break from the sun. The other day was beautiful, blue skies, puffy white clouds, but brutal: -
Yes, need to verify, as they do get it wrong, or missing info occasionally. But good starting point. Nice to know most specs before even going to the dealers. Seeing the numbers before counting 'cup holders' ????

Unfortunately NO. Brother buys it for me. For a commission ... 10% on 1 mill win, 50% on anything bigger.

.... and yet I've had it done a few times. Far from high tech skill to find imperfection on your skin. Doc applies a little dab of liquid nitro, and gone. Matter of fact, I do it myself, as of late, with the dry ice from Swensens when I get take away. I don't live in fear ????
-
5-15 mins in the sun vs buying something I don't need. My immune system is more important than silly fear mongering of everything will kill me, so buy this to prevent it. I can go for a skin screening every couple years, IF I notice anything, as I've done in the past, and had growths removed. Knowing my body, is more important than being scared of it. At 67 yrs old, I don't fear the sun, I welcome it ... ???? I'm going for the chocolate man look. Besides, I here tan lines are sexy. ????

Do they still require foreigners to have their Laos visa before boarding bus 'to' Vientiane. As use to be the policy in the pass. If they'd sell you a ticket, you then had to get the visa at the Laos border, which case, they would not wait for you to get processed if not ready when they were. Leaving you at the border, although, still, if they took you at all, one of the best and cheapest ways to get to the Laos border. I've been all 3, denied a ticket, taken and left there, along with processed fast, and made it into town, maybe twice out of 10 or 15 times. Tuk tuks, taxis, and actually a local bus was available on the Laos side to take you into town. When things pick up, you usually had to plan on taking the 'next' bus, as they sold out fast. Returning was never problem, back then anyway, as if not doing a 90 day turn around, you were coming back on a visa exempt. Or had you TV or 0 visa from the embassy. Now not sure what is required to return to TH. Weekends and I think, last bus of the night, the bus attendant use to ask for 20 baht from all the passengers, for OT pay ... ????

Red plate at night - real world experience
KhunLA replied to pazienza's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I've never had a problem, and driven many times with red plated, interprovince and at night with 4 different vehicles. All parts of the country, at one time or another with red plates, and at night. -
A TV that can act as a computer or media player.
KhunLA replied to JeffersLos's topic in Audio Visual AV
I think any 'smart' new TV will check almost all of those boxes. Mine will and it's 3 ish years old. Only one that might be an issue, though TBH, not sure, would be if they had a hard drive for storage. I don't think mine has, though again, TBH, haven't looked as don't need. I use mine basically as a monitor, but it will conx to the internet (plugged or wifi), has a browser, and pre-loaded apps for just about everything. -
Thai clinics or are hospitals the place to go?
KhunLA replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Chiang Mai
Not sure about 'serious' vs preventative visit. I've visit ENT, and excellent, issue sorted 1st visit. Same with a dermatologist, excellent & inexpensive vs anywhere else. Uses liquid nitro, to remove skin growths. Inexpensive <300 baht, to treat a couple of, to no charge, when not finding during inspection. Those in Udon Thani. Much better than BumCrap charging 1000 baht to peek, and told to make another appointment to treat ... W T F, and that 15 yrs ago. Only Buddha knows what a peek cost now. -

KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Apparently you did not read the posted article: "On top of that, there was no trace of THC, the chemical compound in cannabis that makes you high, in his system." -
I'm expecting to be 'off grid' - cost wise, but for < ฿50 a month to stay conx w/PEA, it really doesn't make sense to be 'technically' off grid. Simply conx doesn't mean you have to use. With hybrid system, you get to control import, export, battery use/charging. If your inverter or other part of your system has an oops, nice to have something to hold you over till sorted. That diesel genny that has been idle for over a year, might not be cooperative when needed. Then again, if you have way more money to play with than myself, and your solar generator is fully charge, well done. Or your EV has V2L capabilities, just break out those extension cords.

Some stimulants simply bring out your 'good or suppressed bad' side. If not very happy with one's self, definitely do NOT do any 'thinking' stimulants; LSD especially, and other acronyms drugs, or peyote, shrooms, PCP. Never do any drug, especially first time, by yourself. A designated experienced mentor should always be present. Someone you trust, that can talk you 'down' if having a bad experience. -
Thai clinics or are hospitals the place to go?
KhunLA replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Chiang Mai
Agree & disagree with OP. Guess it depends what you actually seeking at the clinic. The fact that they are a 'clinic' can leave a bit to be desired. Credentials and what they know and are actually allowed to do. Visited a couple, excellent, and a couple, that think Amoxy & SaRa cure everything. Not just the clinic, same 'excellent' service at some hospitals, private & public.???? Went to one recently, just for a tetanus shot, and no prob with that, except cost a bit more than most, I think. Ask if he could write a script, and said yes, until I told him the med, which he then said no. Kind of surprised me, but it is what it is. Apparently limited in what he is certified for. Script writing being a surprise. Definitely disagree about the dentists opinion, being as good or better than USA. 1 out of 5 I've seen here, that I would return to. 5 dentists I've used in the USA were all excellent.
