  1. I met him the other night playing pool in a bar in Rawai. He told me he was ex special forces but I assumed he was having a laugh. But now I have seen him in his fatigues his story checks out.
  2. Well a bit of a slow start, but the collapse is well on the way this week. 50 cents to the US dollar here we come.
  3. Back when I was a renter, I would always draft a new lease agreement myself. I would always include a paragraph that stated that the Renter could, upon providing 4 weeks written notice in advance to the Owner, vacate the property without forfeiting the deposit. I always draft the lease agreement in English and then get the Thai landlord to sign it. I did this at least 6 times with different landlords and never had a single issue with any of them....signing the agreement...and on 3 occasions vacating the property before the end of the lease. I also ensured that the lease term was always 3 years, combined with a 4 week notice in advance clause that puts you in a very powerful position.....security of tenure but with a rip cord if you need to get out quick. I should also add that this was back in the days when I was in Phuket and it was absolutely buzzing with farangs. Now most tourist spots are ghost towns so you should have absolutely no problems presenting a landlord with a lease drafted on your terms. And don't forget that they WANT a farang tenant because they are much less trouble then the average Somchai who will be late with the rent, hammer nails into the newly cement rendered walls, and let their brats scribble all over the paintwork.
  4. I eat Thai food everyday. Here are some recent examples over the last two weeks all prepared by myself or my GF. Deep fried flounder in mangoe sauce with jasmine rice and steamed vegetables Steamed ocean king prawn sandwiches with fresh greens and thousand island dressing Roast free range chicken with baked potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potatoe, onion with handmade gravy Sauteed chicken fillets with braised vegetables including brocolli, carrots, bochoy and mushrooms Tom Kha aharn talay. Coconut seafood soup with ocean king prawns, squid and chunks of de boned spanish mackeral Stuffed and oven baked coral trout with chunky style salt and pepper fries and onion rings Tempura seafood and vegetables with wasabi, chilli, and sweet soy dipping sauces Steamed blue swimmer crabs (Just the crabs and nothing but crabs...love em...) Jok.....rice soup with ginger and pork And on Sunday we had our own Moo Gattat at home out the back (with our dogs also waiting patiently) including beef, pork, ocean king prawns, squid and the usually veges, noodles and soup stock for the frypan. And yes. I am putting on weight.
  5. What is a progressive lens?
  6. <deleted> him I love a good bannana. So does my GF when she is in the mood.
  7. How much Dowry will to pay me to take her off your hands?
  8. I have a very full and interesting life and most of it is spent on, in, or under the Andaman sea, fishing, spearfishing and diving. I have a beautiful long term GF who is nearly 20 years younger than me. I catch my own seafood, and have two small farms that supply a good deal of our fruit veges and herb and spices. I live in a house that is 3 minutes from a beautiful West coast beach in a house that I paid 270K Thb for just under 2 years ago. It is rendered brick, split level, detached and on a full red chanote block of land. My out of pockets are generally less than 5K THB per month. I will not eleborate further because an avalache of trolldom always follows. If you want more details just review my post history.
  9. This issue is global, not just limited to NZ. Google the "let it rot" movement. Kids are on to it. That is what is driving the great resignation and let it rot movements. They know that there is absolutely no chance to get ahead now with hard work alone. So they are just doing nothing. Eventually their numbers (as a mandate) will be greater than the boomer generation. Once that happens there might be a glimmer of hope in truly democratic nations. However in dictatorships such as Thailand there is no future whatsoever.
  10. Very interesting thread here from Ausfinance group on Reddit. 20-30 somethings have zero savings and many are in debt (personal not mortgage). Australia devolving into a third world economy at a rapid pace and more proof Dr Lowe at the RBA is straight up lying about the savings buffer:
  11. A mate of mine let his balance fall below 800k this year because he fell off the wagon and has been <deleted>faced more often than not. Our local immigration checked his bank records and refused to issue an extension. He jumped on a plane to Patts, paid 15K and had a 1 year extension in his passport the very next day.
  12. Time before last I filled our 15kg bottle in town 340 baht. Just filled it again last week... 450 baht. Very significant jump in prices here. And I should add I take the bottle to the gas depo myself. The cost is just for the refill.
  13. Shopee's ad campaign is rendered entirely facile if you don't install their app on your phone. I only shop online from my PC. I am not trying to influence you as to what platform you use. Just want to understand what underpins your aversion to Shopee.
  14. I went to town today to pick up my new motorbike from Honda. I visited the kerry office first to return the shoes I bought on Shopee. It took less than a minute. She put the shoes in a sealed plastice envelope (which they supplied for free), scanned the QR code photo on my phone then handed me a receipt. Refund money will short up automatically in my bank account in a few days.
  15. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You are now on my ignore list. You much do you pay to you mum to stay in her basement.
  16. All mostly irrelevant observations. Fact is that if US dollar rates and substantiallly higher than the AUD money will flow out of the oz currency and it will head for 40 cents on the dollar.
  17. Bar stool piffle and poor advice at best. I purchased the westcoast house by the beach I am currently in for 270K Thai baht. Freehold detached rendered brick split level on full red chanote block. I have a life usufruct in my name stamped on the back of the title and it cost me 75 baht to do that at the local land office. My GF is named on the front of the Chanote as the owner and she has a will registered with the Amphur leaving the property to me in the event that she dies. My house is connected to town water and this months bill was 80 baht including 20baht water meter rental. Because I have a house in this vilage I am allowed to moor my fishing boats at a community owned spot in the local estuary. I actually moor mine right next to the OrBorTor's boat. Similiar mooring oportunities in Phuket would cost me hundreds of thousands of baht every year (per boat). Please explain to me in simple terms, like I am a four year old, or a golden retriever, why I would be better off renting?
  18. The Lazada website is entirel disfunctional for me. Keep coming up with the swipe buttom left security prompt...especiall when seeking to view product reviews on the second or more page. Kerry is the gold standard in delivery. The rest are just hit and miss J&T are getting better. Flash is a nightmare and so is ninjavan. I had one delivery from J&T show up, and the item was late and smashed to bits, the delivery guy was so drunk that he could hardly stand and reeked of whiskey. I filmed a video of him and posted it for the Vendor to view.
  19. There is the occasional large hardwood log floating up on the beach near my house. The locals are always lightning fast to start cutting it up into usable lengths with a chain saw and then haul it away in their motorbike side cars. The timber on that beach will dissapear in a heartbeat if no one is guarding it. The containers will also be cut up and sold for scrap by the locals if they are allowed. The line in the OP article about no one has come forward to clean up the mess is retarded. Locals will clean it up for free. And in a micro second if they are allowed to.
  20. Can you please elaborate upon why you don't like the "feel" of shopee? It has a vastly superior customer service and refund process compared to Lazada. I have just applied for a refund from Shoppee for some size 44 shoes that I bought on Friday. (Marked as 44 but about 36 in reality). Took me about 1 minute to do the refund. There was an option to have courier collect at my house buy I always chose to return by dropping off with Kerry in town. I just photograph the QR code on the return item page on shopeed and then the lass at kerry just scans that photo on my phone. Simple.
  21. It is not teak. It is mai teng, and it is very resistant to marine enviroments and often used for bridge and pier work. Those 6x1 inch by 1.5m planks in the foreground sell for about 320 baht each direct from my local lumber yard. So there is hundreds of thousands of baht worth of timber there. Perhaps millions. Locals will be there soon to steal it all if it is not guarded.
  22. Lazada is now my second choice because their website does not work properly. Their refund process is also not as streamlined as Shopee. I also buy a lot of local hardward type items (stainless steel bolts and screws is one example) and the range of this stuff is far superior on Shopee. Many shops that I buy from have stores on both Lazada and Shopee, and the price for the very same item is always cheaper from their shopee store. I am not sure why but perhaps Lazadas fees for vendors are much higher than those that shopee charge.
  23. This poll is phrased incorrectly for me. I buy absolutely everything online that I can. And there are now fewer and fewer exceptions of stuff that I have to buy locally. GF is currently online ordering 3KGs of Avocados from Chiang Rai. Last batch were outstanding. It is just pointless dealing with a Thai shopkeeper or one of their staff if you don't have to. No hidden pricing, no lazy and stupid staff staring at their phones, no time wasted trying to explain what you need, and if things are not up to scratch easy process for refunds. In another 5 years most Thai brick and mortar retail areas will be ghost towns. The one in my village is already 75% vacant. There are a couple of franchises (Singer for example) clinging on for dear life due to their contractual commitments, but the writing is crystal clear on the wall.
  24. Well the AUD is definitely toast now. RBA way behind the curve now compared to central bank rates in all other developed countries: https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/interest-rate They have chosen to sacrifice savers and the AUD in a deluded attempt to save the Australian Residential property ponzi scheme. Among the highest inflations prints but RBA just raisng by .25 basis points. Retards should be in jail: https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate The head retard Dr Lowe keeps saying Australia is different because punters have a big buffer of savings. But that is a blantant lie and savings rates have collapsed entirely: https://imgur.com/k1PxlWe Unless the RBA starts raising in .75 basis point increments the AUD is heading for 40-50 cents on the US dollar. It is a mathmatical certainty.
  25. Sigh.....another paid poster has arrived on the forum.....
