  1. A friend mentioned that Charles Schwab offered great rates and when he checked the total to exchange money was less than the current Wise Transfers Fees. He is American so anyone else would need to check if this is available.
  2. My limited knowledge with some Thai people I know is they are not paid a living wage. I am trying to understand if they list their expenses how much they are underpaid. These are people living the life of someone you consider poor in the United States. As we know Math is challenging for some Thais and most people never write and track a budget to understand their income and expenses. Additionally in Thailand the cultural believe of going to temple or performing a task could bring you good luck. Lastly some Thais do Not know that resources are available on the internet and seldom look for answers on internet
  3. There is the ability to transfer to Wise (exchange rate is up) then transfer in when needed, this may help offset the added fee. What drop down option would you select if you want to gift money to girlfriend or Thai person? Has anyone verified money transferred directly to another Thai persons bank account is the Thai persons Tax responsibility?
  4. My limited experience is Thai girl will order and expect a foreign boyfriend/husband to pay. If you do Not want to pay go to the server tell them who is on your bill. Explain to girlfriend that they are not your friends (Foreign boyfriend, friends) If girlfriend wants to pay from her money (allowance) okay. Limited experience but they will not ask if they are on your bill, You or girlfriend invite or mention others joining it is Required for the foreigner to inform Thais who is paying for what. Different customs here. Was in Ecuador and if you invited someone to restaurant or bar it was common for you to pay. Do Not be insulted, Most or all have been educated on this custom by paying the bill.
  5. Overview. I am a landlord and Real Estate investor of 12 years. If you are new to Thailand, do Not participate in Real Estate as a job/investor, You Need to spend the time to List what you must have and can afford Quiet area, location to your interests, transportation for your lifestyle, Parking available for your vehicle, Size requirements (how many people living with you) Area/View? Public Parks/Beachs/Spaces, Working or Retired, Health (Require regular doctor, hospital visits). Are people with similar lifestyle mostly occupying area/home, Is home near restaurants and bars that play music that intrudes inside home? Talk to Juristic Management about Rules, Fines, how rules are enforced. Plan, research and rent in building or area first. This allows you to decide if you like it if area is good fit for long term living and network to find a place you want to possibly buy. I would check with landlord if there are some things you do Not like if they can be changed. Buying (I believe it is difficult for a foreigner to get a bank loan). You lose the Return on Investment from other investments(stocks, etfs, bonds, etc.) Know you better understand the work and complexities with deciding to make a Wise decision on whether to Rent or Buy in Thailand.
  6. Pattaya Mail had this article recently. I'm still learning so not sure of accuracy or if region specific. 10 Reasons why your online 90 day reporting fails. https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/10-reasons-why-your-online-90-days-reporting-fails-459815
  7. Product of an environment that has allowed and therefore deemed this behavior acceptable. The US is pretty screwed up. One minute they talk about inclusion than the first chances they get they are probing for ways to categorize and separate you from the masses. The US does not want to life in peace and harmony. Additionally there is the need to feel superior and important. They elevate their social status by any means possible to feel accepted and superior. Usually deflecting to hide many inadequacies.
  8. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer but I would hope they look at incoming passenger volumes and times expected and schedule staffing appropriately. Then get a lead IT guy down and the PM and IT guy discuss if there are cost effective ways to speed up the process. Maybe discuss implementing a trusted traveler program like Global Entry used in the US. I understand the PM's concerns to get this figured out before the airport expansion is complete and projected increase of passengers overwhelms the systems even more.
  9. If you have a US Bank just download the app and deposit through the app into your bank. Wait till it clears then send money via Wise or other preferred service.
  10. https://www.rd.go.th/21.html scroll down to 21 November 2023 Questions-Answers about paying personal income tax according to Section 41 Paragraph 2 of the Revenue Code. You can use Google Translate. This is from the Thai Revenue Department. Additionally the US Thai Tax Treaty will assist with understanding potential tax implications. If you are classified as a Tax Resident according to the Thai Revenue department staying in Thailand for 180 days or more in a calendar year or by Article 4 Residence of the US Thai Tax Treaty found on the US IRS website. Please get your information from reliable credible sources so you may understand your potential tax consequences.
  11. Dude could have medical condition but that's why they have prescription drugs. Anyways hope he gets the help he needs. Someone mentioned blacklist. Airlines have a list and government has a list but two different lists. You want panic attack fly into Quito Ecuador at night between two mountain ranges with almost no light with some ground fog to land in.
  12. Thai culture teaches giving to someone or feeding dogs, squirrels will bring you good luck or bring good karma. A form of making merit. How is this person being a foreigner have anything to do with Thai culture and traditions.
  13. There was only 30 free seats and event is fully booked according to website. This event is for British tax payers. They will most likely Not speak about taxes or tax treaties for other countries. Hopefully the Thai Revenue Department will finalize and publish the taxes and how they will apply to different countries tax paying citizens soon. Really hard to plan or make the best decisions if you are not informed of the consequences.
  14. NanLaew. Thank You for this detailed response. It should help many in the future. I will be flying out soon so this makes it a lot less stressful understanding the process and where to go.
  15. Shut the border but how about deporting a certain percentage so we have a manageable amount to handle. In sensible person would run the numbers First and determine how many we can afford to support each year and set that limit each year. I never understood the US government always running the country with a debt that would take 20 years for the average person to repay their portion of $92,000 plus interest for remaining years.
  16. I thought Thailand was predicting low rainfall this year? Hope they like paying more for rice and other items. Coconuts increased 40% past couple weeks. Lady blamed no rain and fewer coconuts.
  17. "That's a fortune". I know I could take that amount and invest it and probably never have to work again and live a good life in Thailand. Just like the how much do you need to retire in Thailand question it depends a lot on what level of lifestyle and healthcare you require
  18. So I see this issue is unpaid bills. Hospitals possibly have difficulty receiving payment from foreign insurance companies. Tourist who visit with No insurance. I have trip coming up and a stopover visa has a charge for about 140 baht or $4 USD for a minimal insurance policy. This sounds very reasonable and could help reduce the potential payment issues and delays in payment from foreign insurance companies. Just a thought.
  19. If you want to analyze the deal correctly Work the Deal backwards. What is your potential Profits/Return on Investment? What are the annual operating expenses adjusted for inflation? How expensive is the specialized training to operate a sub. What is the estimated lifespan of the Sub. What are the Risks if you do Not buy the Sub. Are there cheaper, better ways with less operating expenses that require less specialized training. Have you budgeted for enough spare parts to keep the Sub operational when it is critical? A blind man can see that NO Thailand does not need a Sub. Government or Military WANTS a Sub, but first raise and refurbish the ship that sunk a year or more ago. I lived near a Submarine base for 30 years. The AI Tech and increasing IT spending will be of much greater benefit.
  20. I'm going to give my perspective based on what I understand about Thai Culture and my behavioral psychology studies. Some Thais if ordering drinks, food, etc will go to pay or order and unless the waiter or checkout person is talking with or checking out a customer's items a Thai person understand this worker to be Available. This is Thailand and things are done different even in different regions of Thailand. The Sign to Order Here in multiple languages is Not used. If you can get the workers attention and order the job is done. If you Queue or need to order stand as close to worker and try to get their attention. do Not wait for the worker to finish and look at you unless the worker has acknowledged you and signaled to wait. Additionally in Thailand we try to find a way to get along and live in Harmony. If you start to order and a Thai standing near talks to indicate they were next, Zero problem, Sorry and order next. Thailand is wonderful, most will not want to fight over a misunderstanding that is of low value.
  21. Yes Bangkok Hospital has many people off work at 17:30. Avoid the area near rush hours, late afternoon Sunday and between 16:00 and 19:00 if at all possible. Think Bangkok Friday rush hour to picture the amount of traffic and time delays.
  22. Also he aware that 1st Class insurance on New Motorbikes. Mine covers 80% the value of the Motorbike. Understand also that if GPS is always on, using Mobile Phone connection then it will drain the battery. Batteries seem to only last about 18 months before needing replacement.
  23. Sounds Good. Good Weather, Good Prices, Decent Public Transport if include Motorbikes, plenty to do, many entertainment choices, Many good friendly Thais, Good food. I'm sure all the negative Nancy's who in there mind still want to compare it to their home struggle with accepting the differences in Thailand. Just remember that most Thai people did Not have the same education, resources, training, Yet still built a country as good as yours or better
  24. Cancel the submarine contract. It has Zero benefits. No one is invading Thailand. First Thailand needs to collect tax money, improve basic school education, teach some English to students. Next you need to properly fund and supply the Government Hospitals. Then you need to keep investing in streamline routine processes and make as much as is cost effective available through a web or app. Then work of improving public transit and mass transit in certain areas. The Submarine would come ONLY after all the much needed improvements have been finished and paid.
  25. The Thai Government should KNOW this. Wealthy People generally hire very smart, capable CPA's Tax Professionals to structure their clients finances so as they pay the LEAST amount possible but still be Compliant with Thai Tax laws. The Revenue Department will need to spend XX money to hire skilled Tax Professionals, New Software for Many Many foreign income residents and spend Untold hours inputting the data. Will the Revenue Department make Any money in return? This is Not just Thailand, Every country that makes tax changes to the Wealthy soon learns the Wealthy are Very good at paying the least amount required.
