  1. I left right when Covid hit, but it was pre-planned. I would have just stayed in the USA and moved on. More comfortable there. Came back to Thailand out of financial necessity. Doing the best I can like always. It’s hard to move if I’m settled somewhere awhile. I usually need some reason to move.
  2. I don’t see the problem. Just don’t answer. The lease is either signed or not. Once it’s signed it’s a done deal.
  3. Then don’t rent. It’s getting money for time, that’s the deal. Nobody knows what the future holds. Or, they can ask all that initially so it’s an easy exit, not after the deal started like the op’s situation.
  4. She also gave you head in the kitchen during the property tour.
  5. There’s a new type of retiree called the “flaming retiree”.
  6. Another unfair fight, two or more against one ????.
  7. That’s why I’m weary of online listings. It could be existing tenants re-renting properties and pocketing the difference. A lot of arrangements the owner is absent and payments are sent to (or through) a property agent or other individual, not the true owner. Since it’s common it’s hard to tell when subletting is happening. That’s why it’s good to use an agent who vets the property and makes sure it’s the real owner. If they don’t do this they suck as an agent so you need to ask before you pay the deposit which is where they get the commission from.
  8. Forget it. If you’re over 50 your retired, that’s it. If you’re under 50 it’s savings. You don’t know who these jerks are and they are doing immigration reporting. Add to that keeping deposits and the possibility of scams. Lots of people are broke here even if they own property so don’t s@hit where you sleep. Plus it’s none of their f@cking business.
  9. Things got slow for a few hours and people went nuts ????.
  10. Are you happy? Me like it when you’re happy ????
  11. Do they hit the rim, or is it a case of log jam?
  12. I have mentioned this before and others say that expat policies that cover in Thailand, but are not Thai policies, max out at about $500 a month and you can get insured at any age. Its one of the factors on whether I should seriously consider Mexico or not. Which is it, inquiring minds want to know?
  13. Your mistake was letting others know, not the money. It only makes you unhappy if it changes your relationships. Most of it is envy from others. One of the most destructive sins that looks to tear you down. It’s based in anger. Do some damage control now as much as possible. 1. Refuse to talk about money or what you do with people you know or anybody who knows who you are (word spreads like wildfire). Find other subjects to talk about when people ask. Fun stuff, like cooking or rowing. Little by little the people around you will either distance themselves from you, or stick around. You don’t even need to do much, just refuse to discuss it. Don’t lie (I got the watch as a gift, etc) or make excuses, that leads to other problems.
  14. I found an old friend on Facebook. It said he was working as a bagger at a grocery store 35 years later. When I knew him he was studying to be a chef at a good school.
  15. The venue was taking the piss. The Chinese occupied a table that could have been used by other customers walking by who never dropped in because the place appeared busy or that table was taken. They enjoyed unpaid seated time at the venue eating their own food, probably with multiple fans on them taking up electricity. The cafe is not being compensated even if they bought a water while they are eating their own food.
  16. At 50 I also became more curios about what happened to people I knew when I was younger, teachers, friends, college buddies. You end up finding some of them on the internet or Facebook and learn about how they died ????.
  17. That’s the age where you get into “weird medical”. Stuff like prostrate exams, other strange medical stuff they start pushing you to do. Enjoy!
  18. This is what happens with over population. People start fighting for resources and it causes all kinds of strange behavior. Puts people into an animal survival mode. They may start carrying food everywhere they go, hoarding things, and we see a breakdown in norms like taking a dump on the sidewalk or on public transit. I think it could happen to any country though, so I don’t think it’s really a racial issue, though it seems to be China based as China has an over population problem.
  19. Seafood buffet where the Chinese snatched up all the food
  20. If it was really bad I would not be above getting up and moving to a far away table. I could care less about these things as long as I’m not sitting closeby (and it’s not a buffet). One thing I get peeved about is being told where to sit by staff. I no longer play ball on this at all and just sit where I want. It’s never in the enclosed a/c section or by loud Chinese. It would be uncomfortable if I was already served, but very worth it because it’s very embarrassing for the restaurant and the other patrons.
  21. When your at a venue like a restaurant or a bar it’s the restaurants responsibility to enforce the rules, not other patrons. Otherwise it could lead to fights breaking out, etc.
  22. Shrimp anyone?
  23. Maybe it can tour those areas that people say are so great around here and not just in the center ????
  24. Why not pay the duty instead of trying to get around it? They are charging that for a reason. You’re not buying locally.
  25. It’s hit and miss wherever you go as people respond to each person differently. Only way to tell is to walk in and ask a few questions and let you guy decide if you trust the person or not.
