You need to plan for retirement, not just decide at 70. Save up the 800k baht and move before your immobile. Otherwise, you go downhill fast stuck in an expensive country. A lot of people probably do that.
-
Why would you cross retirees off the list getting less money if it’s cheaper to live in Thailand?
-
I need more money to live the way I want and where. I admit it. Would be outta here if I hit the lottery. You can stay though, it’s up to you.

I would be in Puerto Vallarta right now if I could afford a decent place there. The beaches are great and clean! Warm water. The local guys are annoying but nothing is perfect ????????♂️. Some great suites overlooking the ocean. Real stuff, not Jomtein or Wongamat crap. Its just under Us pricing though, not cheap. The beer is great, Corona, Modelo, Tecate with lime. So the answer to your question is…drumroll…money!

It could mean you have been away a long time. One tends to start talking like the locals over time, because it’s easier to just say what they understand “American-ikuh” whatever, then speak like you should. I have done it, “where you frommm? America. got it, yep bye. Easier then explaining to them where the USA is, right? The “San Fran” thing set me over the edge though. Maybe “Frisco” is passable, but really outdated. Then you bring up Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Yeah, right. Did it have to be there? Did you visit the “Statue Of Liberty” ????. Did you “eat pizza” in New York? ????

Nobody calls it “San Fran”. I’m calling you out. I don’t think your American. Sorry, enjoy Laos buddy!
-
Actually, “America” is a trump trash type of thing to say. “Making America Great Again!” Type of thing. Its basically over patriotism. Me, west coast near San Francisco. Liberal.

I’m from the US, the USA or the United States, not America. We don’t call it America in the USA. That could be Canada, or even South America. Start naming things correctly so people talk correctly and it does not sound strange to an American like your talking from a textbook or a history book. Out of curiosity where are you from in the US? You talk kind of strange. Your right about the younger generation. SE Asia and Thailand is old school now. I think it always kind of was. For younger expats I thought it was mostly backpackers and gap year’s. People that wanted to do Thailand, maybe Vietnam, get a little grungy, then fly home and finish that Ivy League degree.

Thanks Eddie. Will report again here in 2044 to see how you’re doing and to get an update on thermae.

Are they stopping farang from going in now? Or is it just a case of odd man out? some of the other bars for asians like in patpong I think would not want farang going in. Like on that japan street. Just walking down the street there the girls out front would say nothing and not make eye contact.

Only use a manual filter now, boiling water over filter. no machines. Water does not get hot enough with the machines. I like the coffee hot, not warm. it’s an art. Enjoy it.

What disaster are you referring to?

Thermae caters to Asian guys now. You can still go in but the girls are looking for Japanese and Chinese guys mostly.

A lot of the expats here originally came over for reasons other then vacation. Often it was a divorce, job loss, midlife crisis or something. In other words, there was an empty hole there. Now coming to Thailand you immediately get the ego built up by smiles and praise to fill that lack. If one can’t heal and adjust one ends up paying for that attention to keep it going. That also leads to the drinking issue, another way of escaping.

Why don’t you ask HIM?
-
Yes, it was an older guy at a guesthouse in sihanoukville in victory hill. They had a small terrace where the residence could take a smoke break. Pretty much a dump, dirt roads, etc. I think he was looking to settle there in one of the cheap rooms that rent for peanuts. Wherever he ended up I hope he’s happy, or believes he is happy! (Drinking doesn’t count, he needs to be sober ????).

First Thai relationship, any advice?

That would be a good test early on to try. Leave a 1000 baht note or something around or on the floor after a night of drinking. If it’s gone you know they are dishonest and just ghost them. That way the other valuables like your laptop or passport are not at risk later on. -
Your in denial, bro. I met a guy that said the same stuff when I lived in Cambodia. He acted like he was living in paradise but was living in a dump and eating poorly. it’s your mind playing tricks on you. It’s a survival mechanism. Eventually you give in and see reality. Kind of like the rose colored glasses phenomenon.

Phuket Landlord Shocked At Damage Caused By Foreign Tenant
JimTripper replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
That damage could have been caused by the landlord to keep the deposit money or to punish the tenant. Probably not, but you never really know what’s going on behind the scenes in these scenarios. It can get pretty dicey renting places out with all kinds of problems and situations. So no entry ban. Judge needs to decide. -

20’s they could be thinking anything. Hanging out for free food and beer, or just out of boredom, or just out of curiosity. That’s like having someone come over in college, you just don’t know and probably never will. I have known people like that have stolen stuff from the house. One even put sleeping pills (or whatever) in my coffee and I woke up during the theft (did not happen in Thailand). I tasted it in the coffee but did not realize it. There was another that would come over, act friendly, but that’s it and just hang out and not initiate anything at all and no intimacy allowed. I think she wanted me to give her money but never asked or said anything. Eventually, we just lost contact and she would not message back. The one was was stealing I just collected the stuff back and let her leave on her own in the waiting getaway vehicle. it was sad as we had known each other for a time. -
Another British Pattaya Bar Owner Charged With Thai Kids

The Thais don’t say anything when something is wrong. Like the lady interviewed just “I don’t know” duh. They are afraid to report anything. -
